I watched this in 3D twice during its theatrical run and the only thing I remember of the 3D is that it was cool when sand was kicked toward the screen in the finale. I was hoping for a lot of dimensionality with staging but it just wasn't really there. Maybe due to the nature of the choreography/blocking moreso than anything else.

What Kimberly Pierce and Lexi Alexander have done for female filmmakers, Trish Sie has destroyed that. Oh, boy. My fiancee dragged me to this movie and I flat out hated this so-called "film".

Did you happen to import the UK disc to the US? I'm want this in 3D like the others on my shelf, but I'm wary of importing the UK disc that SAYS it's all region if it's not going to actually play on my PlayStation 3...

All of Universal's discs are region free, even for those titles they don't own the US rights to... like the past Step Up titles (and others that include Downton Abbey, Spring Breakers, The Wolf of Wall Street, Zero Dark Thirty, etc).

You will have no issues playing either the 2D or 3D disc in your PS3.

It's just a question of if the UK disc will have the Dolby Atmos mix the US copy has.

No, not all Universal releases are region free.

Step Up is Region B locked because of the distribution deal with Disney. It was released earlier than Disney's.

Oh good. I'm not worried about the Atmos mix. I'm more concerned with the 3D. Thanks for the info!

Step Up 2 the Streets was originally Region B locked, but future pressings became region free.

Disney only has the distribution rights to the first three films in North America. They have no say in what happens elsewhere. The franchise has always been financed and produced by Summit Entertainment. Once Lionsgate acquired Summit Entertainment is when Disney lost the US distribution rights to the remainder of the franchise. I am sure Disney is not too bent out of shape over it either considering the US box office take of the last two films have been nothing to be excited over. The franchise still is a moneymaker internationally, but it'll be interesting to see if a sixth film gets made and if so, will it even get a US theatrical release at this point based upon the poor performance of this entry here in the states.

I know about Atmos. But the site here says 24/96, that true?

From other reviews, it looks like it might be movie standard 24/48.

For some odd reason, even though I'd never seen any of the Step Ups beyond the first one, I picked this one up at Target today with some other films I'd never seen. Hoping for a good time.

I think it's a really fun, if not terribly ambitious movie. If I'd recommend one Step Up movie it would be Step Up 3, but then I'd recommend this one. It has the second most MOOSE!

More than likely. If they ran it through a bitstream analyzer it probably misread the TrueHD codec's Atmos extension as a 96 kHz extension. Most Hollywood movie soundtracks are mastered at 24/48 anyway.

Did the same thing happened with Transformers: Age of Extinction?

Hard to know. I'm only supposing what happened since a lot of different software programs that look at the various Blu-ray tracks are having issues reading the extra Atmos data.

It's also possible it was just a misprint. No other site has mentioned it had 96 kHz sampling along with the Atmos data.

It rarely happens (as I mentioned, most movies are 24/48 unless they're a special large format presentation like an IMAX or regular 70mm short subject or feature length science film with music at the forefront of the soundtrack - like Baraka or Samsara) and usually Dolby would be touting this feature as well as Atmos.
