Superman: The Movie had an isolated score in DD 5.1.

It's a shame the legal issues and royalties thing gets in the way of isolated scores being used on more movie discs. OTOH, not all that many movies have music scores that are truly worth hearing in isolated form. Superman is certainly one of the better ones.

I think any movie that has a very popular and/or award winning score deserves to have it included. The studio should just pay the extra fees it costs to get it done and then pump up that isolated score "extra" in the marketing.

One kind of track that really is rare: isolated sound effects. A couple of Pixar's movies on DVD had them. Pretty strange to watch a movie with only an isolated 5.1 sound effects track.

Those are actually kind of cool. I'd love to get one on an M. Night Shyamalan film.

And I agree with you about award winning (and nominated) scores. The Village has this one cue that repeats 3 times in the movie and is missing off the CD. The Lion King still hasn't (and probably never will) been given a propper score release. And I think it's interesting to hear how some scores mesh with scenes and even how they're mixed. One of my favorite unreleased scores is The Fan which just has a creepy sound to it and I'd love to hear it without all the sound effects and dialogue one day.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think movies with scores that never had a release should have isolated scores on them. That's my dream...
