True but there are aspects we can believe - the original cast will have a large role for example. Plus the fact that they have disregarded the expanded universe shows they are not going to follow it at all, or want to steal aspects of it but not be tied to it. As well, Carrie Fisher's daughter being in the movie was just rumor until recently too. And this is JJ we are talking about - Khan was just a rumor too until the minute the movie was released so you can put a little stock into it - we are not hearing rumors of Han being the bad guy so it isn't just anything being thrown out there. Nothing will be official until we see a trailer but there are enough aspects we can confirm that make me worry.

The fact that JJ seems to want to go in that direction instead of expanding the Star Wars universe scares me. Take Nolan's Batman - has divided the audience to an extent but wouldn't it have been easy to do like the earlier films and have Joker as your villian right away and use Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman as your villians for the 3 films? Yet he went a different approach which surprised the audience and helped expand the Batman movie universe beyond what the audience expected. Why can't they do the same here? Why does Luke, Han and the gang need to be such a large part of the film? From what we heard, it wasn't like they weren't part of the original script, just not a large part. It just seems like they are banking on that warm feeling everyone will get from seeing the original cast together again instead of focusing on the best movie possible.

Nolan setup the Batman universe perfectly in Batman Begins. The Dark Knight was a spectacular follow up, but it also didn't feel like it was part of the same universe as Batman Begins. Gotham didn't feel nearly as gritty and hopeless in the sequels. While I applaud the effort in Rises, Nolan and Goyers idea that Batman disappeared for eight years was too far from the Batman mythos for me. It was like they were trying to force elements from the The Dark Knight Returns comic series into the movie. To me Rises was made so Nolan could say he closed the book on his universe. Fine. But I still feel that Batman universe setup in Begins could have been used to a much larger potential.

I'm not going to judge Abrahams film until I see it. I am not looking for spoilers. This universe has such a huge fan following that there is always going to be a subset of fans that are disappointed.

I actually went to a movie that I wanted to see (Star Trek Insurrection, if memory serves) and I got the Phantom Menace trailer so it was a win-win.

Remaning cautiously optimistic with EPVII. While Phantom Menace was flawed (Jar Jar's antics), I actually enjoy it and enjoyed seeing it in theaters (it was just exciting to see a NEW Star Wars movie in theaters). AtoC sucked (while it is popular to pick on TPM, AotC is much worse), and RotS was pretty good. Overall, the prequels were okay movies.

I am hoping that some fresh creative blood in Abrams will allow EpVII (as well as VIII and IX) to at least be as good as the TPM and RotS (it would be great if they met and even exceeded the OTs!). Looking forward to seeing the teaser (though it will most likely be viewed online). and the trailers.

What sucks is there are literally 4 or 5 movies I really want to see this Thanksgiving (Big Hero 6, Interstellar, Horrible Bosses 2, Gone Girl, Hunger Games), but not a single theater in North Carolina was chosen for the teaser.

This marketing ploy Disney's gone with is just baffling. Manufactured scarcity only does one thing: pisses people off. It does NOT make something "more special," which is the BS excuse people are claiming as the reason Disney's doing this. Especially when Disney has the responsibility of earning back all of the goodwill Lucas lost with the prequels and the endless OT tinkering.

I would so love to take my kids to Big Hero 6 this weekend and watch them freak out after seeing their first new Star Wars teaser. But instead we'll be watching a wretched looking cell phone cam leak. Total bummer.

Well, I'm still gonna go nuts over the wretched cell phone cam leak, especially if it's got the audience reaction on it.

There's a bit in the Beginning documentary on the Ep 1 DVD where they show the movie to an audience for the first time and the cheer that goes up when they see the Star Wars logo gives me chills every time, I'm getting chills just thinking about it. And we're all gonna have that same experience in about 13 month's time, it's gonna be ****ing awesome.

Opening night. Chinese theater. Beach ball bouncing. Crowd insane. Opening title. Crowd roars so loud, can't even hear the John Williams fanfare.

Well if North Carolina isn't getting it then it's a sure bet South Carolina isn't either. Oh well. They'll widen their net eventually to pull all of us little fishes in. And I'll jump right in and put myself on the freaking hook.

Whoas me, The trailer isn't nearby. Get over it. It's not like they are holding back the movie in your area. Oh wait a second, from sw.com: due to internet user iamsometal complaining about the lack of seeing the teaser trailer Disney has decided to hold back releasing The Force Awakens in NC until May 5th, 2016. Star Wars fans in NC can thank iamsometal.

Similarly, my main conflict with the PT is Lucas caving into fan pressure over Jar Jar Binks, when he spent years talking about "his vision" all the time. I still like "Star Wars" very much, and I'm hoping this new one lives up to the hype.
If you had actually been old enough back in 77-83 and a huge Sci Fi / Fantasy fan you would have.

I wasn't even born yet in '77-'83 and I still put the OT, particularly the first two, on a supreme pedestal.
