Anyhoo, I've given up on T2 on Blu-ray for the moment. The Skynet edition looks just a bit too processed but it has the proper Cameron-approved 5.1 EX sound mix, whereas the old Optimum/StudioCanal versions have better PQ but they use SC's own remix of the audio, which sounds very echoey in the rear channels. The Japanese version might be the best of both, but not at that price it isn't!

I've bought T2 in HD a total of 10 times over the years but each version has/had some niggles that I'm just not willing to live with. Heck, the last occasion I watched the movie I pulled out the SE Laserdisc and had a grand old time. I can wait for a better Blu-ray.

*Yes that's the SC HD DVD but the encode is the same as the SC Blu-ray AFAIK

T2 is not one I would revisit as much as the first one. I do believe that T2 could look stunning with a new 4K transfer just like T1 does. I still am in awe when I watch the T1 remaster.

I love T2, not as much as the first Terminator but it'll always be a favourite of mine. I've bought it so many times I've given up on it for now. Hopefully there will indeed be a remaster at some point. I'd love a 3D conversion too. If it even looked half as good as Titanic it'd still kick the arse of several recent theatrical 3D conversions.

In their defense I looked at all the other screens in that comparison and the two look pretty identical outside of super closeups.

I had no idea the StudioCanal disc had potential audio problems (haven't watched mine yet). That makes me want to seek out the Japanese release, although it looks like it's OOP.

(Is that a common problem with StudioCanal releases? I find their King Kong 1976 disc also has echoey audio.)

I agree, I had briefly contemplated getting the UK release, but just going to stick with the Skynet and its superior audio track until a remaster becomes available. I too purchased this damn movie probably more than any other - enough is enough...for now anyway. lol

Interesting.

I wonder if the audio and video are the same as the 2008 uk special edition release. It appears to only have the directors cut, with the theatrical cut as a "special feature" with lossy audio.

Picked it up for $4.50 at Target. Don't feel guilty if I got a not so great transfer of the movie for such a good price.

Studiocanal is more interested in securing business contracts/deals to maximise long term profits for investors. They have little to no interest regarding a media format.

After reading through this thread and sifting through the internet.. I am still left with a resounding "Maybe". Despite the fact that this is currently 5 bucks, making it nearly irresistible , I am hesitant to buy this until I have a few questions answered.

1: Will this play on my Sony BDP S360 that has no internet?

2: Is this really worth upgrading from the Ultimate/Extreme DVD's? Because, and though I know I will catch a lot of heat for this, to my eyes this doesn't look much better than those two DVD's. At least going by various screen caps. And I know there are reviews I can read, but I can't ask reviews questions.

3: With Terminator 5 coming out next year, is it possible a new restoration is coming?

4: Why do my allergies suddenly act up at the end of the movie and make my eyes water?

Well, here's my 4 cents:

1. It played on my ps3 without internet, so it should on your player...hopefully

2. It is worth the upgrade. If you are only looking at the screen caps , they don't do the movie justice. Like u said , it's 5 bucks.

3. Strongly doubt they will do a new upgrade, maybe a new box set, but not a remaster.

4. I get that strange allergy too, can't help you there.

2. for 5 bucks, yeah worth the upgrade

3. if there will be a remaster, it'll probably be a while

4. yeah brings on allergies big time...

1. I have the Sony BDPS360 and it played fine. It took a little while to load, but it played perfectly.

2. Yes. Worth it completely.

3. I doubt we will get a new transfer, but I have a feeling that we will however get a new boxset.

4. ?????
