for all we know, that falcon scene may not be inherent to the movie, but teaser only.

What is there to say? Why does anything have to be said? They looked great to me. I never noticed as I was too caught up in the awesomeness going on around them. If I had never read about it online I would probably never have known. And yes my vision is fine by the way. I mean I knew there had to be some digital work done to make the huge army, but when it came to seeing one up close they looked freaking awesome. And even the big army shots looked great to me. It's called suspension of disbelief. I was taken for the ride and enjoyed it. And I don't care if I am the only one who has this view. Why do you feel the need to try and call up an army of supporters in order to validate yourself? Only you can really do that. I'm fine in my little corner of the universe. And happy as a kitten with a ball of string to play with. Or a dog with a chew toy. Or a bone.

Heh. I knew that the prequel troopers weren't "real physical objects" and I still thought they looked terrific. It's kinda ironic that the only time they looked fake to me was when they tried pasting a real head on top!

Heck I didn't even catch the "head pasting". Oh dear me I must be blind. Whatever am I to do Geoff? I'm such a poor miserable blind person who cannot tell CG when he sees it.

A lot of the background of Coruscant were matte paintings for example.

Oh I do. Very much so. I just don't go looking for nitpicks. I used to go see movies with a friend who just had to nitpick every little discrepancy or logic leap or faulty effect, WHILE THE MOVIE WAS GOING, and it drove me crazy. I don't drop $10 or more on a movie to nitpick every little detail, most of which I would not notice anyway.

I think the latest iTunes exclusive teaser trailer is awesome! I'm quite excited to see the movie, particularly with JJ Abrams at the helm! We'll definitely get LOTS of action, LOTS of fun, and LOTS of lens flare!

As for this newfangled lightsaber with built-in butane torches to caramelize the sugar on your crème brûlée, so what? So it's something different. Big deal! It's a completely new movie set years in the future past ROTJ. You don't think Sith Lords would be tinkering in their garage during those years?

It's fiction, folks! Fiction designed to entertain. Anytime anyone takes Star Wars too insanely serious, I am instantly reminded of this:

Man! This is hysterically funny! Thanks for that. I laughed so hard the whole time! Poor guys though.

They'll be part of the draw and marketing later of course, but I like that they are starting the push off in this way.
I thought it was a good idea as well. Of course, they had to put iconic ships, such as the Falcon and TIE Fighters in there, but it was great that there were no shots the old crew walking with a cane.

Yeah, that shot of the Falcon was cool but why the roll? What is up with that ball droid? Just in that trailer there were a lot of "look what we can do with cgi" shots - will the movie be like that? Like I said, wait and see but the trailer really didn't do anything to impress me.
Sorry, but I have to ask if you have even seen the OT?

Just the shot of the Falcon preparing to fly into that "cave" in the asteroid belt alone didn't make any sense at all. I always though the people inside must be falling all over the place, and hitting their heads on the ceiling, since they weren't even wearing seat belts. Lol
Star Wars is fun, and it's fantasy, not science fiction.
The Falcon has made all sorts of hair-raising maneuvers over the years.

I don't hate cgi either - I think people are making too much of him going back to practical effects as in the end both are tools and it is how you use them that count. But again, it all needs to be done properly. People were complaining about Lucas doing the cgi eye-candy shots in the prequels because they served no purpose, people need to be willing to do the same here if it happens. Like I said, didn't impress me but few trailers do today. Will give it one plus - minimnal lens flare
The PT used CG to portray the worlds it took place in. In the OT they used matte paintings, miniatures, etc., and sometimes they worked, other times they are obviously fake as well.

I will never understand the argument that George Lucas used CGI for the sake of CGI. It was just as much to forward the story as in the OT.

Show me a shot of the PT, where the CG was used for eye candy, and I will show you one of the OT.
This really is as baseless and bogus and argument as they come.

CGI is not like models, where model photography is expensive and pretty much done after shooting and compositing. CG is massaged and worked on until the minute ILM has to deliver their final renders. It's like complaining how a fetus still in the womb doesn't look like a full baby.

That fetus looks fake!!!! It's CGI.

While the teaser trailer was nice, it wasn't spectacular. I've seen better trailers. While I loathe JJ Abrams, his first teaser trailer for Star Trek (2009) was more lasting (see video below) and left powerful imagery than the pathetic trailer we got for The Force Awakens. It just seems that they took random scenes and spliced them together.

The motion picture shot of the Millenium Falcon? Excellent. The shot of the X-Wings racing across the ocean surface? Inspiring. However, nothing leaps out in this trailer. What I found ridiculous about the trailer was the bouncy droid (ugh, images of Jar Jar Binks spring to mind), the cross hilt laser on the lightsaber? Ridiculous.

I just expected something a little better with this teaser. I agree with an earlier poster when he said that nothing about the trailer is memory lasting and that the trailer looks like just a bunch of random scenes thrown together.

I'd give Lucasfilm a C+ for its efforts for this film, close to a B-.

I agree that the trailer wasnt mind-blowing but it certainly looks better than the prequels and better than the Phantom Menace teaser that was loaded with wooden acting and Jar Jar. The most memorable exciting shot was the shot of the Stormtroopers. The Sith dude with the silly saber was a bit for the prequel folks. Im really tired that the producers think they have to make "new and exciting" sabers to keep someone interested. Just use plain sabers.

You know people probably felt the same way when the first trailer for A New Hope showed up in December 76? Let's face it, all of the droid designs in the OT and PT both are a little on the "ridiculous" side, but my how we have come to embrace them. R2 anyone? I'm sure that little Astro-droid looked just as silly and ridiculous to audiences viewing the Star Wars trailer in 76 as the cute little droid in The Force Awakens trailer today. Same for the lightsaber. Perspective helps here. My how jaded we have become. Just as they were until Star Wars opened and took them into a whole new realm of fun. It came at the right moment in history. Maybe this one will too.

It was a teaser a year out. It is meant to be nothing but that - a tease - and give the tiniest taste of what is coming.
Anyone expecting more of a full trailer was delusional.

As for your Trek teaser comparison, yes the first teaser was memorable and effective with its Enterprise images, but if this teaser had been comparable and not shown any people or real footage from the film at all, people would lose their minds and complain about that too. Theyre already whining just because the 3 OT actors didnt feature in this TEASER.

If it looks good there, imagine it on a 65-foot tall IMAX screen. The IMAX cameras may only be getting used for that one scene (apparently) but JJ's gotta get them to do a 15/70 release, he's just gotta! IMAX + Falcon = WINNING

Personally I think the teaser is awesome from beginning to end, definitely some intriguing and memorable imagery in there. My reactions while watching it pretty much went:

"Storm Boyega is intriguing, can't wait to find out what's going on with that. Oh look, that droid is adorable and totally has potential to be a new R2 if it has as significant a role. Stormtroopers looking slick, sweet! That speeder looks so OT, love it! OH MY GOD X-WINGS AND THAT SHOT IS AWESOME. Well this Sith guy looks interesting, if the character is as cool as he looks we have a potentially great villain here. Also that lightsaber looks somewhat impractical but totally badass which makes up for it. HOLY SHIT THE MILLENNIUM FALCON, AND TIE FIGHTERS! HOLY SHIT!"

Maybe I'm just a fanboy... actually, yes, I am a fanboy.

You and a few others thinks it is pathetic. You are in the very small minority on this, which is fine. It is a teaser, not a full blown trailer. It's job is to get us talking about the film, which it has clearly done, and I can think of a couple of memory lasting shots.
