No way I'm passing on this one! I'll be sure to put on the subtitles in certain scenes though

It would behoove the studio to at least get something out there with top-notch A/V to boost Interstellar's chances of landing technical trophies, which are frankly its best shots given how polarizing the reactions to the movie have been.
Groups that give out awards can see movies for free in theaters. They also receive DVD screeners by mail. They don't need a standard retail release to help them vote.

I don't mind the shifting aspect ratios.

The first half had more or less noticeable shifting AR's, but the second half mostly kept the taller aspect ratio.

It's not a problem at an IMAX, but on a TV it just doesn't work. Especially when the complete and utter retards at Warner Bros. give the 35mm segments completely different colour-timing and use EE and DNR. Watching the Dark Knight films on Blu-ray is a horrible experience, I've sold mine.

Personally, I would much rather have a transfer that closely replicates the best possible theatrical experience. For me, the shifting AR's do give an extra "oomph" to the scene, as well as better immersion, especially if you're watching with a large projector or TV.

I can't argue about the 35mm segments having completely different color timing. Personally, the Dark Knight movies on BD don't really bother me in terms of picture quality, but I'd like to see them pay more attention to those segments as well.

TDK is the only one problematic in that regard. Batman Begins, yes, does look soft and the compression isn't very good, but it hasn't been processed, as for TDKR, nothing wrong with it, apart from some minor black crush.

As for the shifting AR, I think its just as powerful in the home than at the cinema, it gives you that extra scope and defines the IMAX footage. If it was all one AR, you would have a harder time figuring out what was shot using the IMAX cameras.

But, I know for peeps who have fixed screens (projection setups), it is annoying, and in a perfect world they could include a copy with and without the shifting AR to please all.

The movie is too polarizing to get Director and Screenplay nominations, and too long to get Editing (as much as I enjoyed it, the first 45 minutes on Earth drag). I'd love to see McConaughey get some love but the field is too crowded. The movie won't get any Sound nominations, nor should it.

As things currently stand, I could easily see Interstellar taking home the trophies for Cinematography, VFX, and possibly Score.

In a perfect world, they would release this in a 3 disc set with 3 different versions. version 1: Original Version with 1.4 Aspect Ratio switching with scope. version 2: Home Cinema 16:9 Aspect Ratio switching with scope and version 3: 2.35 constant scope version.

On a 4K Blu-Ray pls....or until then include 4K download vouchers or 2-4 BD-data discs with the 4k version for pc to rip.

So yeah in a perfect world they'd make a 8 Disc Set
Disc 1: OAR
Disc 2: 16:9
Disc 3: Scope
Disc 4-7: 4K computer file
Disc 8: Special Features

That would be some release.

Although maintaining the OAR of the IMAX shot footage would only please the hardcore purist, I would settle for 1.78:1 IMAX footage and 2.35:1 for scope footage on one disc and 2:35:1 constant AR on a second disc. With a third disc dedicated to extras.

Just hoping this gets the transfer it deserves. Will be interesting to see if the U.S and UK versions have the same transfer as they have different distribution.

Roll on release

I just want to say that the synopsis of this movie, on this site, in regards to the BD release, is BS. Einstein was never able to prove this? Bull$&$t. That is exactly what the second Theory of Relativity, known as the General Theory of Relativity addressed.
