...And here I just bought the Odeon disc. Oh well, maybe Kino will bump up the bitrate a bit.

Kino did a nice job with Planet of the Vampires, so they may do right by this one as well. I'll have to look up Scorcerers.

I've never heard of Odeon before, is their transfer of Whip and the Body a big difference better than Kino's?

From Kino's Facebook page: "We have a beautiful HD master of the uncensored version of the film, compiled all the bonus content from the recent UK Blu-ray release, and will be adding one or two new extras of our own. Unfortunately, we've been unsuccessful at clearing the rights to Peter Knight's original score. Therefore, if and when we reschedule the release, it will be accompanied by Kendall Schmidt's 1980s-era score. While we recognize this subtly changes the tone of Vernon Sewell's film, we hope that it will not diminish your interest in owning a copy. We have two choices, release the Blu-ray with the Schmidt score or cancel the release."

Nope, they got the same master Kino was given and theirs looks about the same, the tried to brighten it a bit and it is either a hair better or worse depending on your preference.

Watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not the best 60's horror movie I have seen by any means, but I was pretty enthralled for the length of the picture. Ending is maybe somewhat disappointing, but the build-up and great characters make this one work anyway. Leading lady is quite the looker as well.
Disc looked nice, other than some iffy transition scenes and one horrible looking bedpost closeup. |

Watched this last night and quite enjoyed it.
Don't consider it an essential addition to the collection but am still glad to have it. ![]() The UK and US trailers compliment each other well. Planning on re-watching it at some point this week. |

As someone else mentioned, Karloff is terrific in this (and even quite funny at times). |

What are people's feelings about the Kino not having the original score, but rather a 1980's replacement score?
Seems like a no brainer to get the UK edition for the original score. And then Kino gives us the special feature - Interview with Composer Kendall Schmidt. Is this the composer of the 80's track or the original track? Seems pretty bizarre if he is the composer of the original track.... |
