I looked at the first release as a lesson...be prepared. It was my own fault for missing out, plain and simple. I made sure to get a copy this time around. So it does confuse me when people come in here and complain that they missed out. When Body Double was announced, I made sure I was able to get a copy, which I did.
This release did sellout really fast, but 2 days is still plenty of time to get your order in if you're prepared, especially since this was bound to be a hot seller given the first time around. \end rant. Oh and btw, you can get both Fright Night and Christine from Amazon Germany for $25 shipped. |

At least you can still import the German release. It won't have the extras that TT's version does, but it's region free, and would certainly be cheaper to obtain than the TT release... Quote:

One of the stores have actually decreased their footprint, they built a partition within their building and shrunk their store floor by 1/2. They use the other half for storage I guess. Not sure why they'd do something like that, they're paying rent for the entire building, why not use it to actually move product. Still not as bad as Walmart though. My first stop is the local movie/music stores followed by the internet and finally the big box stores. |

I totally get that deep catalog material is a very niche product on blu ray. I get why this model (or the Kino and Shout models) work better than a wide release for some studios. However I do think with a genre/horror/sci-fi movie TT would be be better off upping their numbers. As this quick sellout shows they could have done 8,000 or even 10,000 Fright Nights and still sold out eventually, and that would give fans more time to buy. Same with a big actor like Eastwood in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. 3,000 makes sense for a majority of their titles, but they should use common sense and up the quantity on these more collectible genre films. Luckily they seem to know that and used 5,000 twice now, hopefully they try 7 or 8,000 eventually as well. |

1) No direct format competing, right out of the gate 2) The economy was much, much better 3) the jump from vhs to dvd, was much more impressive than the jump from dvd to BD 4) dvd media, dvd players, dvd burners etc all dropped in price much faster than BD 5) one of the cheapest/easiest forms of date storage, and still is to this day That's why it's known as a perfect storm for dvd to succeed, back in the late 90's. So comparing two different formats, from two different decades(if that's, in fact, what he's doing) is like apples to oranges. At least in my opinion. 4k? That's a whole different ballgame. ![]() |

I'd love for 4k to take off, I really would, but with digital taking over so quickly and the fact so many don't even see 1080p blu ray as a big upgrade I'm not sure I can muster much optimism. |

Also Walmart would want to sell it for $9.99, giving the studio $4 or so.

![]() You take all that into consideration, I'm amazed we have as much on BD as we do these days. As for Redman positing only the boutique labels will be left standing, in terms of BD catalog releases, I don't buy into that at all. I have no idea what happened with Sony. They were on the front lines, with the introduction of blu-ray. They should've had a stranglehold on BD catalog releases, but they just dropped right off the map. I guess due to other areas of Sony underperforming. I see WB/Universal/Fox all motoring right along, for better or worse. No doubt Redman knows much more than I do, but I'll press the panic button when 3 or 4 months roll by with no big studios announcing BD catalog releases. ![]() |

My money is on this. It's been known for over a year now that Sony Pictures is a foot or two away from going under. I wouldn't be surprised if they slowed down/stopped production of Blu-ray titles until they can maybe pull themselves back together financially.

You I don't know why people are upset that their sold out now, so much time to order it and so much time in advance about the release date, I can understand if your new to twilight time and their releases, but boys and girls this is what collecting is all about!!!

Fright Night is/was a popular film amongst horror fans, hence the sell outs. The Blob took some time to sell out which was surprising to me since I thought it was more of a favorite than FN. My guess is when Christine gets re-released it too will be gone in one or two days.
