Cool

Wasn't sure which thread to put this in. I see a lot of Joker Avatars on the site and I thought someone might want to adapt this pic. It's pretty cool:

I though if Christopher Nolan doesn't direcect the next sequal they should call it quits. I may be wrong they might be able to do it with out Chistopher Nolan but they can't do it without Christian Bale.

I hope Christopher Nolan directs them all but if he doesn't they should go for a person that Morgan Freeman has worked with once before
[Show spoiler] David Fincher

Default Critics Dismiss Oscar Hype for Heath Ledger

According to the critics:
"Dark Knight is the type of comic book, action adventure that Oscar voters generally do not favor and there are many movies to see later this year, the experts said."

Much like the majority of horror and science fiction films, in most cases comic book-based efforts are always overlooked by the Academy.

Not fair, but sadly true. This could prove to be one of the few exceptions, however...

I said it too. That this stuff doesnt get nominated. But he died and people have been acting like this is comparable to Marlon Brandos godfather, or Peter Otoole in Lawrence of Arabia. As good as he may be and as good as the film may be, its not academy award stuff. This doesnt mean im saying its not fit for the awards or heath ledger should be cast aside, im saying it isnt stuff the academy generally goes near.

Like he said in the article, there are plenty of Oscar worthy movies coming out later this year.

honestly, and I know some people will lie, but how many people here knew about There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, or No Country for Old Men right now?

Sure, but much like the Teen Choice Awards or other similar endeavors that doesn't necessarily hold the same weight (or, obviously, the same amount of prestige/respect) as the Oscars (or even the Golden Globes, for that matter).

A SAG nomination, however, is very possible for Heath.

Yeah our theater is all Digital (and THX certified for 2 screens, all movies I watch are in those) and they got it Tuesday but didn't get the keys until Yesterday or midnight this morning.

I just got home from watching it and it was great.

.

Best Picture nominees

• 1970 - Airport
• 1973 - The Exorcist
• 1974 - The Towering Inferno
• 1976 - Jaws
• 1977 - Star Wars
• 1978 - Heaven Can Wait
• 1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
•*1982 - E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial / Tootsie
• 1983 - The Big Chill
• 1985 - Witness
• 1987 - Fatal Attraction
• 1988 - Working Girl
• 1989 - Field of Dreams
• 1990 - Ghost
• 1991 - Beauty and the Beast
• 1993 - The Fugitive
• 1995 - Babe
• 1999 - The Sixth Sense
• 2000 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
• 2001 - Moulin Rouge! / The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
• 2002 - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
• 2003 - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (won)
• 2005 - Crash (Won)
• 2006 - Little Miss Sunshine
•*2007 - Juno

People say the Oscar voters wouldn't go anywhere near these types of movies, yet they did. Fantasy movies rarely get nominated at all at the Oscars to start with. Jaws got nominated, so did Raiders of the Lost Ark along with Airport and the Towering Inferno. They do it more often than people would think.

What I'm saying is that it's too early to speculate on whether if The Dark Knight will get nominated or not. Sometimes, they are predictable, sometimes they aren't. If Johnny Depp can get nominated for playing Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean then... well... you get the point.

Again, it's too early to speculate.

Dude again they dont go anywhere near this stuff. I hate how everytime I say this people bring out a list of comic book, action adventure, and fantasy films that were nominated. Yes these films got nominated and some won! Do you know why? Because they were the first to do something that no other film had really previously done. In the history of film when Raiders of the Lost Ark came out it was unlike anything ever seen or done before. Thats why it got a nod for being fresh. Same for ET. Same for jaws. Same for the exorcist. Lord of the Rings was a tremendous undertaking that had visuals and work unlike ever seen before in hollywood. LOTR trilogy are masterpiecies and the first to do something that wasnt really done before on a scale of that sort. Same for Star Wars. Visuals that have been done in 1977 that were unbelievable at the time something that was never done. Also Beauty and the Beast is the only oscar nominated cartoon ever for best picture and it was remarkably done and got a nod. No one had ever taken a cartoon as really a masterpiece on the same level as a motion picture until Beauty and the Beast came out. And so on and so on. You need to look at why they were nominated. Just because LOTR, Jaws, and Exorcist got nominated doesnt mean batman will. Batman has been around on film since the 60s and there have been many adapdations and many revisions none of which have gotten oscar nods for anything other than art direction, special fx, sets, and costumes. Believe me the academy doesnt go near this stuff unless its revolutionary and I dont think TDK is a film that will set a standard for all future films as a whole. Your list is bogus.

not necessarily. remember that johnny depp got nominated for his role as jack sparrow. also susan surandon got nominated for her role in the client. the client! a law thriller from john grissom (however you spell that). hollywood and the oscars can surprise you. heck ian got nominated for gandalf. i mean, really. the list isn't totally bogus. and i believe that the dark knight will be doing something revolutionary. making a comic book movie that not only has action, but also has way more depth that 80% of the oscar winners out there. but the biggest thing the dark knight will do in terms of revolutionary is being a comic book that is also real. you actually feel like what you're seeing is real and not some hollywood magic. how many comic book movies can say that? and there have some awesome ones to come out.

Here is a list of how every catagory from the Academy Award is broken out.

[Obivious choice that has gotten all of the buzz up to the awards broadcast.]
[Popular fun choice from a mainstream movie]
[Reputation Nomination]
[Never heard of it/him/her, but will watch it now since "it was nominated for an Oscar"]
[Dark Horse Nomination that has a chance to "stir the pot"]

And noone thought Dark Knight could transcend the comic book movie, but from what I've heard it did. There's been comparisons to Michael Mann, "Heat", and even Martin Scorsese.

Really, to phase the movie out of consideration is premature. If it gets nominated, it gets nominated. If it doesn't, then it doesn't.
