You see I'm far more cynical than that. MS doesn't like giving people direct comparisons between the X360 and PS3 where the PS3 wins, Fallout 3 is one of those games where the PS3 would win, hands down. So it turns out that MS paid for exclusive DLC, amongst other things.

What do you think those other things are?

Now I'm not saying get it on the PS3, or not to buy it on the Xbox, get on whatever you damn well please. Please keep this in mind though, if you buy this on the X360 you are supporting MS and this type of action, gimping of other systems by third parties. Right now it's the PS3, but next generation it will be the PS4 and WiiHD, then the PS5 etc... until it is only MS left in the industry. That is how they always think, "how can we monopolise this industry".

I think Sony needs to dig deep in thier pockets and fork over some dough. They can totally do it. It dosn't have to come from thier gaming divison, you know Microsofts money is not coming from thier gaming divison. Sonys shit is getting old we have been haering about the same games for years its time to ship them out. Step it up Sony

It's all a difference in philosophy on how Sony and Microsoft approach 3rd party developers. Sony has historically not paid developers for content. They'll help a developer with system tools and technical support, but they wont pay them. Microsoft? They back up the armoured truck. Perhaps they'll change their strategy now that FF XIII has slid over to 360 with a timed exclusive. Who knows?

Personally, I feel great about the PS3s future, and that has only improved. I read a bunch of news articles this morning, and overall the press has a hugely positive outlook on the PS3's prospects, and I couldn't agree more. More of them were worried about the 360's future since their price cut was quickly matched by the PS3's move with the new 80 gig model.

The PS3's doing great, and the outlook is getting brighter. The sky certainly isn't falling.

By the way, when is the Tokyo Game Show? Now that E3 is neutered shell of its former self, and major publishers like Activision can sit it out, I bet we'll see a major announcement for the first time at the Tokyo show. It's still a huge circus.

You prove my point, Max. MS is willing to do ANYTHING to ensure their customers perceive that they are getting all the best content for their console and Sony is not.

Sony should be sliding some cash in the backdoor to ensure 'the ps3 version is better' as well. At least enough that MS abandons the practice due to the increasing cost. Tip for tap, sort of speak. MS is only abusing it because it's there to be abused right now due to Sony doing nothing about it. Sony needs to do something about it. Soon.

Never really felt bad. I got the most powerful gaming machine on the market, with Bluray technology. FF13 is coming to PS3 anyways so I can still get it.

The rest is just a matter of pride. Yeah, I'd love to see PS3 sales go over the 360's ...

My recent discovery of Fallout 3 DLC only being available on 360 (and PC by definition, of course) has pretty much completely crushed me. It's not the first time and certainly won't be the last. I don't recall any multiplat releasing DLC only on PS3 (bioshock in future maybe? But a 'new' title would be far more appealing since anyone who cared has pretty much already gotten Bioshock on another platform now, myself included).

The crappier port being on PS3 nearly everytime doesn't help the situation either.

My point is, exclusives, albeit a large part, are still only a part of a much bigger equation here. That being; is Sony willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that I, their PS3 customer, gets the most for the console. The answer, at this time anyway, is a resounding NO.
I agree it does suck that the ps3 doesn't get this extra dlc. but why all this huff about dlc I mean look at gta4 by the time that dlc comes out at the outrageous price its going to be who cares about it. sony is doing a pretty good job in my book they could go a little faster but they are doing way better than last year

No, I don't think they should be. The main concentration of Sony in the gaming market will be Japan and Europe for the PS4, I guarantee it, the US will be relegated to the position Europe has now, the reason MS is deeply unpopular in these places is their poor business conduct. Sony have even taken their hits, but recently have been very open, look at the new TransferJet consortium, by copy MS strategy they will lose a lot of fans around these parts as well as Japan.

It's not worth losing a war to win a battle. Also something that needs to be heeded. Sony will get third party exclusives, I'm sure of it, but they will be fewer than last gen, but to make up for it, Sony's first party will crank out the stuff we all want like Killzone 2, and Heavy Rain (which is supposed to be awesome).

Isn't that whats taught in business school?

Any company or capitalist would jump at the opportunity to be a monopoly, even if its a fake product differentiated one. So its not just Microsoft.

Personally if there's one thing I hate in my industry or field, it's competition

I totally agree with you Max!

Hey did anyone who watched E3 on G4TV notice that most of the devs that were showing game demos (for titles on PS3 and X360) were showing them mostly on the PS3? I mean that demo of Mercenaries 2 was pretty cool and the graphics looked great! The demo was shown on the PS3.

It's hardly good for your display unit to red ring at a show...
As has happened before.

Problem for Sony also is the xbox live factor on shooter games that come
out for both platforms...People have there Halo, Gears friends so when
they own both consoles they usually buy for the 360 cause that's were
the multiplayer action and people there familiar with playing with are..

Personally I feel it is completely unfair for a game developer to only offer DLC to one console. I am paying the same price as a 360 counterpart so why do I miss out on additional content? It's discrimination and just plain wrong.

I don't want two consoles and I chose the PS3 because for me it represented better value for money and offers me more than just a gaming platform. Why should that mean I miss out on additional game features?

I feel I should write to some of these companies for an explanation. It would be interesting to hear how they back up this attitude, because the one thing they wont say is "because MS paid us"

A possible long term effect is that their PS3 sales drop significantly as gamers decide they are not going to buy a product that they know they wont get ongoing support for. So that makes MS happy, but will lose full game sales for the developer. They lose out.

Personally, I feel that give the choice between some DLC or more exclusive titles (and that is the future choice) smart people will choose more exclusive titles.

Thinking about it tonight, I think this could possibly be catastrophic for SE (possibly). I'm not sure just how well FFXIII will sell on the 360. I'm sure it will do decent, but just how much so? I know there's a market for it for all of the RPG's they've had already, but how did they do?
Where it could get hairy is; if they do have to do what nearly everyone on here is afraid of, and "dumb down" anything, even an iota, to make M$ happy, I predict a large-scale revolt on principle, even by people not upset over the news 360 was getting it, too. Going to 360 was kind of a slap in the face to a loyal install base going back years, but if that base gets screwed out of the best possible game, it will be an outright stab in the back, and SE could take a while to recover.
This, of course, is simple hypothesizing.

Lets all just agree that Microsofts E3 just flatout SUCKED!!!!
The only games they had were Gears Of War 2 and Fable 2. Sure
they showed stuff for Resident Evil 5 and Fallout 3 but those titles
will be available for PS3 also..sooo lets see Microsoft had only 2 games
to show off at E3 compared to Sony's HUGE lineup!! SONY WINS!!
