FDR tried, but Warbucks never backed the New Deal in the film. He merely joined the singing of "Tomorrow" for Annie.

Well technically the movie doesn't tell us whether he did or didn't. However it certainly insinuates that Oliver is going to back him considering how united they both seemed while joining in with Annie to sing the song.

Just watched the 80s version of Annie. It's better for the most part, but I don't hate the remake either. Albert Finney was horrible in the original. He might as well've played a rock.

I heard there is this thing going on with what Target is doing. They have a Annie clothe line out I guess or something. But The Annie in the picture isn't the girl from this. But some random White girl who isn't a red head either, nor has freckles. I saw something on Facebook that this one woman was asking this.

It's a little weird, but I saw that in the news too. Still, why does this shit make the news?? I'm getting kind of sick of it. lol

I know. But likely about the race.

Like Nightline ran a story about Jennifer Lawrence's "Hot Bodyguard" as they were calling him. I was just thinking how is that news? We're running pieces about Bodyguards now? Must be a really slow day in the news world to run that story.

Just looked up the bodyguard. I was expecting a chiseled Mr. Universe look. LOL

He's Handsome Squidward.
[Show spoiler]

Doesn't that look like him?

But okay enough of this thread derailment.

It makes the news for the same reason everything else makes the news: We have a 24 hours news cycle, and an incredible number of outlets. They need to fill the time, inches, whatever.

Anyhow, I can't believe how bad Annie looks. Granted, it's not really my kind of thing to begin with. But yikes.

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...p-controversy/

Why is this controversial? the character was white in the first place! The attitude of the person making the complaint is unreal...she demands all the ads be taken down! Get off your high horse lady Jesus!

'That’s not what Annie looks like. How come the new black Annie isn’t good enough? Does that mean I’m not good enough?'

Yeah right, like her child really said that

And the Annie in the new film isn't African American. She's black.

The label, "African American" is the most improperly used phrase in our vocabulary. Whenever you call someone an "African American," you're making two assumptions about the person:
1. That the person is an American.
2. That the person is African
Do black people only come from Africa? Nope.
People need to realize that black people could come from Haiti, India, Trinidad, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Australia, or Jamaica!
And, always remember; not everyone from Africa is black.
I guarantee you, all the pc police out there have never called a white person an "African American". Of course they'd never call the white actress Charlize Theron an African American. Yet, she is.

For example, if you saw Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men, 12 Years a Slave) walking along on a street, you would probably think, "Hey, he's an African American", which is wrong! He is British. Are ya gonna call him an African-Britain?

Why is everyone trying to make such a big deal out of the casting?

Warbucks wasn't a Republican politician. He had nothing to lose by joining the singing with Annie, FDR and Eleanor in a private meeting. He did it for Annie.

I thought Albert Finney was one of the best things about the '82 film. Immensely entertaining performance. He owned the role. Got a big kick out of him. He took the stereotype of an old school billionaire and played it to the max.

See, I couldn't care less about the casting. Cast whomever you want, as long as you make a solid film. This doesn't look solid to me.

As I pointed out, I am not the demo for this. But yeesh, this looks bad. I think that's the problem most people are having.

The 2014 movie?

Because Annie isn't black. We're talking 90 years worth of a very specific character starring in literally thousands of comic strips, stage plays, musicals and feature films. All as a little white ginger girl, usually a redhead. That's Annie as created by cartoonist Harold Gray in 1924. His comic strip Little Orphan Annie lasted from 1924-2010. A phenomenal run.

To me that's the bigger assumption.
