Typically disc rot is confined to certain manufacturing runs on BD. Criterion had a problem recently with many circa 2010 editions having rotted.

From what I understand the disc rot is mainly from the early releases and is a manufacturing problem. Most Blu will be fine.

Could you check to see what the IFPI codes are? You'll find the numbers near the inner ring.

Well, I think it's safe to add Paramount as the third label with chronic bronzing problems, next to early Criterion and early Well Go USA releases. Not knowing the extent of how early/late.

My copy did stop playing, it would freeze at a certain point. I didn't really notice a coloring but I didn't look that hard. I bought a new copy in the end.

I had the disc just laying around for a while out of the case so that's what I attributed it to. Even though it looked fine and I didn't think just not having it in the case would destroy it.

Being in or out of the case wouldn't matter, because the oxidizing agent is already trapped between layers during manufacturing.

That's an understatement. One seemingly arbitrary moderating decision after another that all but killed the great intentions of this thread and all the hard work of JSCOGGINS. My faith in both Criterion and BluRay.com has lowered, while my cynicism has risen.

Got myself a BD-ROM, started scanning my discs with VSO Inspector.

So far I have 6 titles that won't pass a surface (sector) scan.

Monterey Pop (10K7)
Monsoon Wedding (10K7)
A Christmas Tale (10K6)
Summer Hours (10K7)
M (10K7)
Walkabout (10K7)

And not surprisingly, so far the ones with other IFPI than 10K6/10K7 have been fine (knocks on wood). Only Pierrot le fou (10K6) show no sign of bronzing, and the 10K6/10K7 titles that pass surface test they have a sliver of a bronze halo closest to the inner ring where the IFPI code is stamped.

Will update when I finish the scans, will take a fortnight or so.

I have now performed surface scans on the following up to and including Brakhage. After Brakhage the IFPI codes seem to revert to the original QWxx codes. And those are all the 10K6/10K7/10K8 I have found so far. Looks as though Stagecoach is the last one (for me).

Well, the disc you ordered was probably produced much later than the first wave of the discs which seem to be faulty. So you should be good.

I'm surprised they haven't started replacing discs other than the ones they know about. If they are receiving these bad discs they should have ample evidence for their failures
