From what I understand the disc rot is mainly from the early releases and is a manufacturing problem. Most Blu will be fine.

My copy did stop playing, it would freeze at a certain point. I didn't really notice a coloring but I didn't look that hard. I bought a new copy in the end.
I had the disc just laying around for a while out of the case so that's what I attributed it to. Even though it looked fine and I didn't think just not having it in the case would destroy it. |

![]() That's an understatement. One seemingly arbitrary moderating decision after another that all but killed the great intentions of this thread and all the hard work of JSCOGGINS. My faith in both Criterion and BluRay.com has lowered, while my cynicism has risen. I just wish JSCOGGINS had the resources to create his own independent website with all this information, away from suspect meddling. |

Got myself a BD-ROM, started scanning my discs with VSO Inspector.
So far I have 6 titles that won't pass a surface (sector) scan. Monterey Pop (10K7) Monsoon Wedding (10K7) A Christmas Tale (10K6) Summer Hours (10K7) M (10K7) Walkabout (10K7) And not surprisingly, so far the ones with other IFPI than 10K6/10K7 have been fine (knocks on wood). Only Pierrot le fou (10K6) show no sign of bronzing, and the 10K6/10K7 titles that pass surface test they have a sliver of a bronze halo closest to the inner ring where the IFPI code is stamped. Will update when I finish the scans, will take a fortnight or so. No reply from either Mulvaney, Claire or orders@criterion.com ... |

I only have three criterion discs (Last Temptation of Christ, and Anatomy of a Murder, and Rushmore) , and the discs look fine. The numbers on the back of the discs are:
The Last Temptation of Christ: IFPI L322/IFPI L324 Anatomy of a Murder: IFPI L323/IFPI L324 Rushmore: IFPI L321/IFPI L322 |

I have now performed surface scans on the following up to and including Brakhage. After Brakhage the IFPI codes seem to revert to the original QWxx codes. And those are all the 10K6/10K7/10K8 I have found so far. Looks as though Stagecoach is the last one (for me).
The titles in RED are failed discs. [Show spoiler]
