Another one of my favorite lines:

"He's not the hero we deserve; he's the hero we need."

I just watched The Fly with Jeff Goldblum last weekend and I swear that Ledger got some of his mannerisms from watching that movie. The way he flicks his tongue in and out and is always squirming reminded me of the Fly. Funny that the review in TIME magazine compared the two movies to each other, also.

Just got back from TDK. Wow, what a ride. Nolan did a good job with it. Took the themes of BB one further and seemed to further deepen Batman's identity while exploring morality on other levels with Joker (very disturbing, intense performance, Ledger's swan song) and Two-Face. The action sequences were top notch. The only part that left me cold was the new Katie Holmes DA assistant didn't work for me at all. Bad casting choice, bad acting. I also was hoping to see Wayne Manor restored, but there's always next time.

One thing I loved were the "politics" of the film. The themes of surveillance being necessary to catch the bad guy, i.e., sacrificing civil liberties under threat of death from terrorism, of the willingness of batman to be hated by society for the good and safety of society--these are important themes told here very skillfully in a way the press has been unable to grasp for the past 8 yrs. It's a funny commentary on our society when a superhero film grasps onto fundamental truths about leadership and fighting evil in a way journalists have collectively failed to do.

...one more observation. The character development that was such a big part of BB is almost nonexistent here, with the exception of Two-Face. All the other characters come pre-assembled, which freed Nolan to generate more dense action and plot twists. I missed a lot and need to see it again to catch everything. One thing I did catch is the two-headed coin that was the main symbol in the film--that came right out of The Prestige, another Bale/Nolan tour de force. Remember, Borden gives the coin to Sara's nephew.

I actually liked her a lot. She fit the role very well. I didn't miss Katie Holmes one bit. And as for Wayne Manor, this movie takes place only 8 to 9 months after Batman Begins. The executive producers of the film said in an interview that it wasn't realistic for Wayne Manor to be re-built in such a short amount of time. That's why Bruce bought the penthouse.

But the coin has been Two-Face's trademark since... forever. It was a given it would be in the movie.

This movie was AMAZING!!! I can't wait for a third one! Ledger was phenomenal as The Joker. Bale is the perfect Batman (again). Everyone was good in this film and the story, script and direction were completely top notch. Dark, scary and gritty to say the least, and definitely the first time I've felt genuine suspense in a Batman movie. Joel Schumacher should never see this movie or he may never be compelled to go in public again. This is how it is done people! Don't miss it!

So is the little guy that found out his secret going to be Robin?

Just kidding. And I predicted $65 million on Friday. Nikki Fink says the estimate has been adjusted to $64/$65million. It's gonna be more than $160 million in 3 days (Spider-man 3 did $59.8 on Friday)

Who is going to be the next villan in the third Batman movie? I hope Nolan does a better job in the next one and have Batman kill them like he did in the other movies. I mean how many bad guy can Batman lockup with out killing a few first and what ever happen to scarcrow he never got caught in the first one and Scarcrow is not a really good bad guy to make another movie out of.

It's my understanding that Batman's one rule is not to kill.

Yeah but Batman has to break that rule some time. What so Batman is going to lock everybody up that really isn't that fun to watch in every movie.
