There's nothing especially wrong with her acting. It's just yet more bizarro anti-Twilight feelings unfortunately rearing it's head again. btw I am not a fan of Twilight but I still can't ever fathom this odd internet behaviour of hating on two paid actors who appeared in the franchise.

That Adrien Brody picture reminded me of another bad miscasting: Abel Ferrara casting himself in The Driller Killer. He is so bad that he makes both Quentin Tarantino and Xavier Dolan look like Oscar winners in comparison.

Mostly I found it incredibly jarring going from Holmes to Gyllenhaal. They just don't feel like the same person when acting, and Holmes appeared to have more chemistry with Bale than Gyllenhaal did. I realize Holmes was going through a bunch of personal crap at the time (though she blamed everything on starring in a forgettable film called Mad Money), it's just obnoxious that it bled over and, in my opinion, diminished a great film slightly.

I think Gyllenhaal acted the part well enough, she just suffered from replacing someone who was better in that role and had already defined it quite well.

I never had an issue with her in the role. Honestly, I couldn't see Holmes playing the role in that movie - I don't think she would have pulled it off as well. She did fine in Batman Begins but I think Dark Knight called for more and I don't think it would have worked with her in that role. Even though she isn't a kid anymore, she still projects that youth that wouldn't have worked have made her believable. It worked in Batman Begins but I couldn't see her in Dark Knight and pulling it off as well as Gyllenhaal did. I don't see Gyllenhaal taking over that role as dimishing the film in any way.

I agree, not because of her looks, but she did such a terrible job being "earnest." I know people disliked Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, but I fell she did a lot better job playing "normal."
