The Fantastic Four doesn't have to be campy. You can have a film that's true to the comics or that adapts the comics well without the movie being campy. Campy is not the way to go with Fantastic Four. As I said earlier, a good tone for Fantastic Four would be a combination of the first Iron Man film and Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can take the material seriously while still having fun with it -- all without getting campy. Iron Man took the material seriously, it had fun, and none of it was campy. That's what you should strive for with Fantastic Four.

The early Iron Man comics were cheesy, campy, comic book-y, too -- same as those early Fantastic Four comics -- but look at what they did with Iron Man. It's not like they have to choose, "completely dark and serious" vs. "completely cheesy and campy." It isn't one or the other.

Trank/Kinberg Trailer Commentary via Yahoo; Interview with Empire; Poster

Yahoo commentary:

yahoo.com/movies/the-fantastic-four-teaser-trailer-with-commentary-109246554892.html

Empire interview:

Quote:
“We live in a time where there’s a required instant gratification from audiences,” Josh Trank told Empire of The Fantastic Four trailer teasing the tone, but holding back plot details. “That’s a fun challenge in terms of putting together this teaser, picking and choosing how much you’re actually giving away.” Simon Kinberg adds that “What we’re doing is quite different, and we want people to get a sense of it. There is a mystery, and the slow immersion into that is part of the experience of what will ultimately be the movie. We wanted it to feel different and represent what’s unique about the film. It has a little more restraint, maybe, than some other trailers these days.” About rumors that Marvel's First Family won't be identified as their comic book codename, both Trank and Kinberg remained tight-lipped. “We want some of that to be a surprise,” said the producer. “It is in many ways an origin story, but it’s also about how they react to this transformation, and the ways the world does or doesn’t react to them, which is different, I would say, than all other superhero films.”

It was previously revealed that the reboot draws a lot of inspiration from the Ultimate Fantastic Four comics, but Kinbeg confirms “our characters go to another dimension.” He continued, “It was something we discussed from our earliest conversations.” Trank chimes in, “You can’t have the word ‘fantasy’ or ‘fantastical’ without a contrast. It has to stem from a grounded experience. You can’t have bad without good, you can’t have right without wrong, you can’t have fantastic without mundane. You need to experience all that to really earn the title of the film, ‘Fantastic Four’.”

About the film's initial release date getting pushed back a few months, the duo reveal the reason for it was solely Trank's desire for secrecy, as well as the visual effects. “We wanted the visual effects to be as complete as possible,” says Kinberg. “We know this movie is going to have a little more scrutiny than most, and we wanted to make sure the visuals represented what Josh really pictured for the film. Creating a fully CGI Thing is no easy task!”

I'm not sure I even know half the cast.

I know (and love) Kate Mara but only from House of Cards. I know Michael B Jordan from Chronicle (which I absolutely loved) and the first season or two of Parenthood. Oh, and Reg E Cathey was really good in both The Wire and House of Cards (although I gotta say, the voice-over thing in the trailer really didn't work for me).

But that's really about it.

I was sold on Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station. Why he didn't receive an Academy Award nomination, I'll never know. I've seen numerous pieces of work with Kate Mara and Jamie Bell and I think both are fantastic. The only film I've seen Miles Teller in is Whiplash; he's in every single scene and rocks it.

Marvel: "We're not exactly following the source material for Civil War."
Fans: "WOOOO! Go MCU!!! Marvel are so original!!!"

Fox: "We're not exactly following the source material for Fantastic 4."
Fans: "OMG, you suck!!! YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT RESPECT THE SOURCE MATERIAL. Give the rights back to Marvel!!!! Boycott this movie!!!"

"Change is coming"? Reminds me of when Johnny Storm ran for President.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this, just as I was before. The teaser didn't floor me, but that doesn't matter. I'm praying that so much crow gets eaten in August.

That trailer did nothing for me. I understand it's a teaser, but it can tease and still get me interested in the film. It seems very dark and serious, but I'm not sure that's the best tone for Fantastic Four.

We'll see if the next trailer looks any better, but I never saw either of the first two FF movies in the theater and I don't see that trend changing with this one at the moment. And I really dug Chronicle and have enjoyed Miles Teller in everything I've seen him in(yes, even Footloose where he was one of the only bright spots), so I don't have some sort of bias or agenda against this film.

Question? Seen several posts say it doesn't look like FF film!

What does a Fantastic Four Film look like?? Surely you don't mean those pieces of crap we got 10 or 12 years ago?

it looks too serious when compared to the comics......that's what i've taken away from those posts.

some superheros work well in a dark/gritty movie.....the Fantastic Fout doesn't strike me as that kind of group though.

Looks like the total opposite of the 05/07 films. But I guess to some that be a good thing.
