I love good cover art. The Big Heat was awesome. Same with Swamp Water and Bell, Book, and Candle and others. Does it matter over picture quality? Nope, but it sure is cool and I really appreciate the effort TT puts into this aspect of their releases.

Slip covers don't matter to me one bit. But good cover art is part of the whole package and a bonus for owning a disc instead of a download.

And I don't like shiny objects.

I think there is for Land, but People is pretty dire and was barely released (and the DVD master is missing a brief scene that was apparently cut from the US release), so a standalone release would probably be doomed - its only real chance for decent sales would be as a double-bill.

They help drive sales and that's always a good thing.
Well like I said, it's usually only when they care more about the packaging than the disc that it annoys me. And there definitely are people on here who do. It's also kind of annoying when talking about slips or whatever takes up 90% of the new posts in a thread. That kind be kind of frustrating. Check out the Game of Thrones season four thread right now. Makes my eyes roll back so hard.

I do try and take it in stride though. Without anal packaging collectors physical media would be dying even quicker.

I do remember a friend at CIC Video in the UK telling me that they regularly changed the sleeves on Star Trek videos every 18 months or so because they knew that each time they did that they'd sell another thousand copies to Trekkers who already had it with the old sleeve.

This is a forum for collectors. I don't care that much about packaging, but many care a great deal, and I'm sure I've got interests they don't share.

The only time it annoys me is when someone recommends a UK release as a less expensive option with more features; someone will inevitably argue against it because of the ratings logos.

It's not that I care more about the packaging than the content, it's more about if I'm paying $30+ for a blu-ray movie then I expect something a little bit more than a product looking like something from a $5 bin at Wal-mart. After all even the content is Digital and they can produce 3 million at exact same quality and sell it for $10 if they wanted, it's not like they only had enough material to produce 3000, but like the packaging "limited" is another marketing ploy

ohhhhh how I love the posts that...

Did the original info posted on this release specify some special packaging? If so then I'd be dissapointed. It is a disc in a case with cover art. It is that simple. The release is limited because that is the agreement with SONY / Columbia Pictures Video on the title. Beyond that please forward all hate towards SONY. They did NOT want to release this title themselves. TWICE now.

I've read dozens of posts from people who flat out admit that if such-and-such release does not come with a slip, they won't buy it. Clearly there ARE people who care more about spending $30 on a piece of cardboard than the disc itself.

I don't think Sony should get all the blame, or even any blame. Fright Night is a very salable mainstream horror movie and they surely would have released it themselves if not for outside offers which promised a higher profit for them. Of course there are many titles that Twilight Time has released (most notably the earlier ones), that definitely would not have gotten a BLu-ray release if not for TT, but Fright Night is not one of them.

I don't think any party should be to blame it is business but SONY made the decision and if there are those that don't like it then they have to deal with it. I love TT releases so I'm biased but reasobable but for the haters they need to direct their hate to the SONY / Columbia who made it possible.

I think Sony is 100% to blame. It's their film. Sony controls dozens, if not hundreds, of films that are "marketable" to a certain degree that haven't gotten a R1 Blu release yet. Saying Sony would definitely have released Fright Night if it hadn't licensed it to TT, when Sony itself has released very few catalog titles the past couple years, is a bit of a stretch. It's possible Sony would have licensed it out to SF, but not guaranteed.

In the end it comes down to Sony licensing the film out instead of releasing it themselves. That's all on Sony.

As an outsider looking in, I can see that these limited-release agreements can benefit the studios in multiple ways. The first is that it gets the movies out there in the public consciousness -- even consumers who don't buy might read the reviews or read forums such as this. And for consumer, I mean film buff, not your average Walmart shopper. The second benefit is that it lets someone else test the market, getting the product out there without saturating the market. If a title is wildly successful, the studio has the option, after three years, of releasing it themselves, renewing the agreement, or shopping the title out to someone else. Finally, it gives the studio income, however modest, with very little effort or overhead.

Personally, I'm a little frustrated that a company like Sony can't give all their great catalog titles the Mr. Smith Goes to Washington treatment, but I'm equally frustrated when a company like Warners chooses to portion their catalog out in dribs and drabs rather than let an outside company offload some of their back catalog. I'd be thrilled with a Twilight Time release of Mister Roberts, for just one example.

I'm likely only going to get Lenny and To Sir With Love. I can only do 2 a month with TT titles. I thought about Breaking Away but I think I can hold off on it a little while longer until there's a month with just 1 release I want. Hopefully it'll work out.

That's a fun flick. I'll have to take a pass this month after just splurging on 5 titles during The Blob promo. Otherwise I'd be down for Love and Death and To Sir, With Love.
