Agreed. People have been claiming there are obvious issues. I imagine one has to go frame by frame which any Blu-ray would probably look similar at some points.

I know, I was just trying to lighten the mood a little. The earlier post I was referring to was modded out anyway, maybe because my joke was crude or because it was quoting a couple of other people talking about how much money they make.

On one hand, the back and forth bickering certainly bogs down the threads but on the other hand, well it's really quite entertaining, at least more so than all those people who were constantly posting about how anxious they were that their orders hadn't shipped yet.

If you are with TT, I am very happy you are engaging in this. Thank you. I mean that and appreciate any help you can offer.
No, I am not with TT.

I may have to check out "Breaking Away" sooner rather than later to see if it exhibits similar issues.

This thread really is unbelievable. So much defensiveness surrounding issues with this disc. We finally see a thread that is now FULL of support for Twilight Time! After years of people continually complaining about them (I was never one of them - this is the first issue I've had with TT and I own 7-8 of their releases), who knew all they had to do to swing support in their favor is release a product with intermittent video corruption?
thephantomcat and slimdude have always been huge supporters of TT (for several years here) often arguing (as they do here) against truth and logic, with a blind fervor. Haranguing anyone who sees faults in the disks. Derailing threads with their nonsense. Maybe they are TT employees?

If this is the same encode could it be that the transfer itself had these flaws in the 2011 release, but were actually masked by a lower bitrate?

Couldn't agree more. At first this was something you would allegedly need to see on a 100+ inch screen to see, to suddenly being obvious and everyone can see.

Luckily with Sexy Beast I already knew it wasn't great looking, plus I got it during their sale a year and a half ago.
Hey I'd be interested to hear your opinion on a question I asked about Sexy Beast, which I didn't get much of a response too.

------

Anybody else have audio problems with the featurette?

Voices are clear for a while, then the audio gets quieter and echoey for a minute, then becomes clear again. Sort of like the stereo is not outputting properly or something like that.

------

I am just playing it via my TV speakers. Sound is nice and solid until 51 sec at which point it gets a bit soft and tinny and stays like that through till approx 1.35 sec when it becomes solid again.

I've never had any problem with Sexy Beast on the audio front. I also think the PQ is much better than others have said -- an accurate representation of the film (and I love that both aspect ratios are included).

As for the rest of this thread:
[Show spoiler]

But don't stop! I'm not really qualified to assess this issue, since I don't have the new disc (and I'm not sure I'd know what I'd be looking for anyway), but the differences are certainly interesting to read about.

This is some good old school blu-ray dot com entertainment here!

At which point in the film is it? I've only watched my TT disc once, and don't recall any issues, but I can check for you.

I like how you comment on the clock pan, but ignore the much more obvious comparison between the previous and new releases right above it.

It is not in the actual film but in the making of featurette. 51 sec to 1min 35 sec. Thanks

I truly believe that's what most nitpickers do. Hell, I've seen a few of them even say things along the lines of, "well if you pause it you can see....". Which is what it always comes down to, a lot of these "issues" aren't noticable while the movie is playing unless you are ignoring the film itself and strictly studying the screen for the sole purpose of looking for problems.

Looking back at those comparison pics I have to say not only are they an unfair comparison due to being cell phone pics but that one pic where Chris Sarandon's face gets blurry is something that didn't happen when I watched the movie. Which is because as you said, people like to go frame by frame and when you break something in motion down to that level it's going to be a bit blurry.

They don't even care if the occasional Blu-ray Case accidentally ships without the disc actually inside. But hey at least I got the Jack Nicholson magnet right

So, you're thinking that increasing the bit rate turns this:

into this?:

Pretty sure it's supposed to be the other way around....

Hey I don't know, just wondering. If something had a fault in it, perhaps increasing the bitrate would actually make it more noticeable, kind of like transfers that were prepared for DVD that have the DNR magnified through a blu ray release (like some of the Universal catalog releases).
