if you can playback in 7.1 - the US version will supercede the UK version in that respect. The picture though on the UK version is pretty spectacular.

I will assume by context your playing the home game. So read this:

[Show spoiler]Fantasia is released as a separate "Special Edition" along with it's sequel every 10 years as a "momentous" occasion. Keeping with the initial intention to release the original film for ten years as an 'event'. Despite this, like Alice, the film has been announced at one point as a Diamond/Platinum release. It is currently in the Vault.

Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo were among the first movies to be released on home video. Keeping the "tradition" of their success on television and therefore it's seldom theatrical releases; they were among the first Disney films to be released on TV (chosen because Dumbo's short length made it palatable, and Alice because it was initially a disappointment). Disney has kept a "tradition" of keeping them out of the vault, despite the fact that they are very successful and critically acclaimed, equivocal to that of movie in the Disney Vault. However, at the end of the 2000's they were both announced to be released on Platinum/Diamond edition. Nonetheless, they were only released on a Special Edition. Because Disney is notorious for changing their scheduled releases and because the films are as successful as the others, the possibility of them being released in the Vault cycle is very likely; the fact that they were officially announced and changed at the last minute is also proof that this might happen again. Therefore it is still considered part of the "Vault" for safe assumption.

The movies are plenty successful, however Disney wanted to keep the 7 year tradition, so they arbitrarily plucked those two out. They are acclaimed Never ending $ makers nonetheless

Those 3 are kind of on the "B-Chord" Disney Vault.

There is a rumor that Alice will be released on Diamond After Pinocchio to cross promote Through the Looking Glass and for it's 65th Anniversary, similar to what they did for Sleeping Beauty. Then I assume they will release Dumbo for 75th. And then Snow white for 80th Anniversary. They LOVE anniversary banners.

While I can't say for sure, I find it likely it will happen. But I'm sure many people will disagree with me.

Either way it's just a marketing tool. Alice is my favorite Disney film (that and Pinocchio). I don't need a marketing tool to tell me otherwise.

If anyone's not buying because you already bought the UK version... Remember how we all thought Aladdin had been dropped from the Diamond Line because the Platinum had poor sales? Don't give Disney a reason to say, "Oh, the Diamond didn't sell as well as we'd hoped, so we're just going to treat this movie like crap again."

Way to release the 1080p version of Aladdin just as it is becoming obsolete!

1080p on home video will not be obsolete for a long while. Considering the number of people who still only buy DVDs, I expect that 4K will take a long time -- if ever -- to take off in the home video market. In 10 years, streaming and downloading will probably completely dominate over DVD/Blu-ray sales, but I doubt the physical market will ever disappear entirely --just like those who buy books, there will always be a niche group that prefers physical media to digital media.

They should have thought of that before they let other countries get the bluray while doing nothing for us. Also, not everyone wants to spend money on multiple copies of the same movie.

Not really what I meant. I just meant that since 4K will be available soon, 1080p won't represent the top tier of what is possible quality wise. Perhaps obsolete wasn't the best word choice.

I disagree that it's been treated poorly, it had an excellent DVD and an excellent Blu-ray, more than can be said for most Disney titles on home video.

I didn't really care for the Lion King sequels so I didn't go for it but if they release an Aladdin Trilogy Collectors Edition (in a Lamp case!) vs a solo first film / 2-movie Collection later, I'd definitely be on that. They weren't the best "sequels" in the world but, for me at least, they weren't that bad either

What's this "we" stuff? Some may have bought into that rumor, I never did.

Well Disney did give us the Australian diamond trailer, least the trailer is not the platinum trailer like Jungle Book's diamond trailer

Hope the platinum's backstage are ported along with most of robin's recordings (long shot I know)

And some new ones hopefully. A Tribute to Robin Williams and hopefully a new retrospective documentary ala Beauty and the Beast blu-ray.

I didn't really like that trailer, but who cares? I am so excited this is finally getting released on BD! The last of the Disney Renaissance films to get the BD treatment!
