I don't think that's what they're expecting to get. They just want in on the Wii experience for a variety of reasons.

Right, but in the end it IS the cheaper price that's driving the sales isn't it? If a kid were to ask his parents for a system, what's the first thing any low to middle-class parent on a budget going to look at?

Yes. I'm sure the lower cost is a deciding factor.
I don't think they have any expectations of it being an HD console, or even care that it's not.

The price, the unique "off the couch" gameplay experience, and the fact that parents are confident that the Wii games are family friendly are what is driving the sales. Not to mention a ton of hype driven by the "hard to find" mystique behind the system. Sheeps easily get caught up in the whole "it's hard to find and everybody wants one" mentality.

Personally I don't get it. My friend has a Wii and I do not enjoy it at all. I don't think the waggle wand makes gaming all that enjoyable. The only things I've played that I really enjoyed were the boxing game and Resident Evil 4.

Family Friendly also constitutes a lower price...

I have both the PS3 and the Wii. I don't find the Wii bringing anything to the table that a game like Rock Band is also doing. The limited supply excuse and the Wiimote gimmickery is all that Nintendo has going for it. And remember folks, I have BOTH the Wii and PS3 so I can back up what I'm saying
