I found this article on a blog through dvdempire.com site. I'm not too crazy about the site myself pricewise they really dont bring anything to the table on blu ray or dvd for that matter, but I did find this rather interesting.
Disney To Raise Blu-ray Prices? Despite the fact that research shows that consumers already think Blu-rays are priced too high, Disney may soon be raising the retail price of their releases. Disney reported a 64% first quarter decline, and Disney CEO Robert Iger seems to believe that customers will be willing to pay more for the “added value” that Blu-ray releases provide (hi-def picture, digital copy, etc.). Do you agree or disagree with Disney’s stance, and would YOU be willing to pay a few bucks more for Disney’s Blu-rays if they decide to increase the price? Post your answers here, and – at the end of February – we’ll forward your comments concerns to the studio! The link is below if you guys want to comment on there blog http://hidefdvdempire.blogspot.com/2...ay-prices.html Who knows if they will send all the comments to Disney, but hell the site is free to comment, and what could it hurt to comment away. Thought it was good timing with the whole SB/Pinocchio at Amazon deal. |

i don't know. it depends are what extra they are offering. if it's got a lot of packed features, two or three discs, a bonus dvd, and such then i would be willing to pay more for it. as it is a single disc dvd will cost you $20. heck, a regular cd will cost you $15. so i think paying $40-$45 for a two disc/three disc blu-ray isn't bad at all. again, it all depends.

i was even on the fence about buying Sleeping beauty and pinocchio for 52 bux as a bundle... but i did it... if they were 3 bux more id buy it, but 35.99 prices should cease to exist..
bad business move, theres still ppl who will buy it with a raised price but it will drive enough away that the prices wont overlap and generate more profit because of it |

Me too !!! I refuse to pay more than twenty dollars for a blu-ray. However, I did buy SB for 24.99 and Pinocchio for 21.99. I really wanted the Disney classics, but I have purchased Cars, Ratatouie, etc for no more than 19.99. I just wait for the prices to come down. If Disney does raise the prices, then I will just have to wait a little longer before purchasing.

i wouldn't either. but if those extras were on a second blu-ray disc and in hi definition then i would certainly not mind paying more. i bought clerks II for over $40. to most that may seem like too much, but not to me considering the fact that i got two blu-ray discs in the deal. the movie was on the first disc and on the second was a bunch of extras including a full length documentary. so in the end i got two movies out of it. that's a deal to me. you can't get two movies by themselves for quite that cheap.

extra features & digital copies is not anything i look for when buying a blu.the only thing i care about is the blu movie itself.extended or directors cut is the only thing that would have me be ok with a higher price although i will be buying finding nemo right when it is released no matter the price cuz that is gonna be a legendary blu.disney makes the best looking animation now that they own pixar so if there were a company that i would be willing to shell out a few extra bucks for a blu itd be disney.i dont want to spend the extra flo but i will for those few pixar greats...cant wait!!!!!!

Digital copies are a waste of time imo. Some you can't even upload to your iphone or blackberry. So what's the point? I was bad when I first got into blu-ray. I spent $30 on Ratatouille...then I started getting smarter and looking in the hot deals forum. Now, I don't spent more than maybe $27 on a new release. Best Buy has good pricing and is just as good as Amazon imo. I picked up Sleeping Beauty for I think $26.99. On Tuesday I added another Disney classic...I'm trying to get them all! I never got many on DVD. Pinocchio was $21.99 @ TRU so I had BB price match it. Got a nice 3d cup too!
If they raise their prices, which I doubt they'll do, we'll still be able to find good prices for them. |

They are already testing the waters...
Look at Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. prices compared to Cars, Ratatouille and Wall-E. (MSRP of Bug's life and Monsters are ~$40 vs ~$35 or so on the rest) Last edited by fronn; 03-13-2009 at 02:10 PM. |

For the most part I've been willing to pay whatever prices the studios have had but among my friends, I'm definitely the exception. So, I think *raising* the prices will cause a backlash against them. Most people expect prices to drop over time, not go up so I think it'll end up driving people to buy the DVD instead. In other words, I don't think blu-ray is established well enough yet for them to do something like this. I just hope it doesn't cause a backlash against blu-ray in general (and hopefully other studios won't follow-suit).
