Ugh, Rothman. I hope the Sony higher-ups are really strict in regards to anything having to do with Marvel. They need to say, "No, you leave Marvel alone and let them handle Spider-Man."

Rothman very much seems like the "I know what's best, and even if I don't actually know what's best, I'm going to do what I want because I'm the boss" kind of guy. I just hope the Sony higher-ups keep him on a tight leash on all things Spider-Man.

I don't want this guy screwing up Spider-Man, especially now that he's tied to Marvel Studios.

The rumor about Elfman's SM theme maybe being in Avengers has me doing a crazy hypothesis in my head. What if the new Spider-Man is in the same continuity as the Raimi movies but with a new Miles Morales Spider-Man? So they could be sequels with the same music and JJ Jameson and maybe a cameo from Maguire or Dunst but also be a new series for a new age.

I am literally giddy over the thought, though I know it has a 0.00001% chance of happening.

That has about as much a chance of happening as Felicity Jones being asked to reprise her role as Felicia Hardy.

I don't know why people are taking the Elfman thing as a sign that something Spider-Man is related. (I hope/think there will be something Spider-Man related, albeit small, I just don't think Elfman has anything to do with it).

Marvel would want to distinguish this as THEIR Spider-Man - a new Spider-Man. Using any of the Elfman/Raimi music would contradict that. It would be like using the John Williams Superman music in Man of Steel.

Which I wish they did.

I think when you have a theme as iconic as the Superman theme you keep using it. It's tied forever to the character for me. Like the Bond theme, they didn't stop using it when Moore took over or Brosnan or Craig. Elfman's Spidey theme was super good and iconic, they should keep it.

Bond transcends time and that's the point, Spider-Man of the 2000-2007 and Superman of 1978-1985 do not.

Because the Sony movies seemed like they couldn't wait to get him out of high school ASAP when that was the whole point of the character's initial concept?

I think them just going "we're going to make him black now" seems like they're doing it so that people don't view them as being racist (which, again, is weird, because they already have Black Panther and Nick Fury on their roster - the latter wasn't even black in the comics).

Honestly, Peter Parker is my favorite comic book character, altering his ethnicity would be a big change for me, and I sincerely wouldn't be fond of that decision at all.
Fury was black in comics years before the MCU started

Regardless of which Spidey they use in the MCU, I've enjoyed pretty much everything Marvel has done so far so I'm not going to start doubting them now.

New Details on Just How Much Control Marvel Studios Has Over Spider-Man
Quote:
Yesterday's news about Tom Rothman (someone whose track record with superhero properties is not good thanks to his tenure at Fox) taking over from Amy Pascal worried a lot of Spider-Man fans. To put it bluntly, pretty much everyone was wondering, "Is he going to f**k up the deal with Marvel?!" Based on a report over at Latino-Review, probably not! They reiterate that Avi Arad and Matt Tolomach are producers in name only, adding: "We have information from a source suggesting there is no financial involvement whatsoever and no direct creative control over Spidey coming from the old guard. Amy Pascal still has a say in the Mom-and-Pop arrangement she has with Feige, but Disney didn’t want to unite Pearlmutter, Arad and Feige in earnest. This is the solution. What does that mean? It means Marvel might have a bit more control than we thought. It means the new Spider-Man has been insulated from BOTH Avi Arad and new Sony head, superhero property curse, Tom Rothman."

Has Spider-Man Been Cast?

FREE TWITTER SCOOP! PLS RT! 1) A director for major CBM has been found! 2) An actor for major CBM character has been found as well! Can you guess which one? Clue: #Marvel #DC 😊 #MCU #DCCU
And Jeff Sneider posted this on Twitter:

Took out a loan just to buy @KrollJVar enough birthday drinks tonight. I'm hoping to get him so drunk he tells me who's playing Spider-Man.
There was this exchange on that Twitter status:

@Webhead6 @krolljvar Justin knows. He's already been fitted for the suit... #SpiderKroll
@KrollJVar is Justin Kroll, Variety Film Reporter, per his Twitter account.

So if Justin Kroll actually knows who Spider-Man is, Spider-Man must have been cast, obviously... and with Captain America: Civil War due out next year, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think they've found an actor. (Maybe even in time for a brief appearance in Age of Ultron?)

I wonder if that "big announcement" Robert Downey Jr. teased is a Spider-Man casting announcement?

I had the Twitter and the Instagram things pointed out to me, so I'm not taking credit for coming across these. I just put this post together to see what you guys think.

Reddit User: "Dylan O'Brien is Spider-Man"

Quote:
So Dylan O'Brien is pretty much our new Spidey from the look of things. A source tells me he gave Sony the audition of his life, who by the way, absolutely loved what they saw from him. Amy Pascal and team knew they had their Spider-Man.

Sony apparently started leaning towards O'Brien over Lerman when they figured Dylan had a better grasp and feel of the tone they were going for.

Mind you, anything could happen from now until the official announcement, which if not on March 5th, (unlikely) then somewhere in mid-March to early-April.

But nonetheless, there is a tremendously high chance, like a 99.9% percent chance, this will end up becoming official. There's more info down below in the comments, see if you please.

UPDATE: It is official, Dylan has signed on as the new webhead!
Quote:
It's internally official, for now. Sony signed him on already.
Quote:
Yeah, they'll end up going with Miles down the road just really to have more longevity and ultimately make more money off more movies. And yes, he signed on for multiple pictures, which include an entire Spidey trilogy, Civil War, both Infinity Wars, and I'm also hearing he signed onto another film, but that's unkown for the moment. How it works? Not too sure about the whole two companies thing, wasn't told about the politics of it, just the details
Quote:
- Aren't you the same guy who described and predicted the Sony/Marvel deal before it was announced
- Yeah, I didn't predict it though, I was given info on it.
Quote:
- Just tell me,flat out, honest to God....you're NOT lying to us.Just tell me. Also, care to explain "longevity purposes" of them going with Peter Parker?....well,except the fact he's the goddamn Peter Parker.
- I'm not lying. Honest to God. And the longevity purposes thing is what it is, they wanted to be able to make more movies, have Peter first, then Miles.
Quote:
- mind telling us who's writing and directring?
- Don't know, but what I do know is that Dylan O'Brien has OFFICIALLY signed on as Spider-Man. Got the news an hour ago.
Quote:
I'm not confirming anything through anyone until it's confirmed 100% and it's not, not yet.
Quote:
- How many auditions did Dylan have to go through until he's at the spot where he is now? Plus, if Dylan is officially casted, how long will his contract be in place for?
- He's gone back on forth to Sony with auditions, but he's not officially cast, just yet. They are so close on it though, that they've already begun negotiating a potential contract.
Quote:
- A curious, less important question than the scheduling one. Did the audition process involve any casual interactions with any other Avengers cast members to determine chemistry and how well they fit? Like RDJ, hence his upcoming announcement? :P
- RDJ was definitely involved. In fact, I've been hearing Peter and Tony Stark are going to have a lot of screen time together in upcoming MCU films. They're both geniuses and they're both cocky smart-mouths, not to mention that Peter sides with him in Civil War, so they compliment each other very well as characters. I hope that's exciting to hear.
Quote:
- When do you think the casting will be announced?
- MAYBE on March 5th, which is when the "big" news drops. Most likely in mid-March to early-April though.
Quote:
- Is the amount of control,Sony has,worrying?.....if you catch my drift.
- No, Marvel has a lot more control than you might think. Sony is pretty much just saving face with the whole "we have creative control" BS.
Quote:
- Any word on Spider-Man showing up in a Post-Credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Also, is the big announcement Thursday Spidey related?
- The big announcement on Thursday MIGHT be Spidey related, emphasis on might, though I'm not 100% sure. Don't have much on a tease for Spidey in AoU either, it is likely though.
Quote:
- Also,(sorry for the hurricane of Qs) any chance on who's directing? Drew Goddard??....PLEASE?!! :P
- Drew Goddard was definitely looked at, likely won't be him though. Sony's looking at directors who work with comedic films mostly.
Quote:
- How much creative control does Marvel have and will Spidey be in Avengers Infinity War?
- They have a lot more control than you think. And yes, Spidey will be in every Avengers movie coming up.

Quote:
- Feige is/was involved in the casting, right? And any chance reporting on who did good except Dylan and/or Lerman?
- Feige was HEAVILY involved in the casting process and still is as he and Sony are still going over things. As a matter fact, one of the only reasons they liked O'Brien was because of the tone Marvel wanted to go with for Spidey this time around. Which BTW, is comedic, light-hearted, fun. Not emotional, dramatic, or wimpy.
Quote:
Oh, and a lot of actors performed well I guess, don't really know about that though. What I do know is, that the reason they began to lean towards Dylan instead of Lerman was mostly because of his sarcastic, snarky side. Sony and Marvel figured Lerman was a much better dramatic actor, which wasn't really what the tone they wanted or looked for.
Quote:
- No offense to Lerman. I just think his supporters give him way too much credit after Fury.
- Definitely, although I wouldn't be disappointed if Lerman swoops in and lands the role at the last second. He's an easy second choice after O'Brien in my opinion.
- But if he's not the right fit as you said, would they still take him? Or are you suggesting he could still prove that he is? And how likely do you think that is?
- He could very much still prove himself, seeing as how nothing has really even been made official yet. But it really is looking like Dylan's gonna get the role, unless something goes wrong with his scheduling, availability and other things of that nature.
Quote:
I was told Dylan gave them a great audition. Sony apparently really liked what they saw and felt like they had their new Spidey.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/co...rman/?sort=new

It's Reddit, so take it with a grain of salt. But people have said that this user leaked stuff about the deal before and was proven correct, so, we'll see...

I have no idea who this kid really is but he looks like he could pass for fifteen - I'm sold on that alone.

I've always like the high school student Spider-Man and in the context of the rest of the MCU that could be a really cool dynamic.
