So Dylan O'Brien is pretty much our new Spidey from the look of things. A source tells me he gave Sony the audition of his life, who by the way, absolutely loved what they saw from him. Amy Pascal and team knew they had their Spider-Man.
Sony apparently started leaning towards O'Brien over Lerman when they figured Dylan had a better grasp and feel of the tone they were going for.
Mind you, anything could happen from now until the official announcement, which if not on March 5th, (unlikely) then somewhere in mid-March to early-April.
But nonetheless, there is a tremendously high chance, like a 99.9% percent chance, this will end up becoming official. There's more info down below in the comments, see if you please.
UPDATE: It is official, Dylan has signed on as the new webhead!

Yeah, they'll end up going with Miles down the road just really to have more longevity and ultimately make more money off more movies. And yes, he signed on for multiple pictures, which include an entire Spidey trilogy, Civil War, both Infinity Wars, and I'm also hearing he signed onto another film, but that's unkown for the moment. How it works? Not too sure about the whole two companies thing, wasn't told about the politics of it, just the details

- He's gone back on forth to Sony with auditions, but he's not officially cast, just yet. They are so close on it though, that they've already begun negotiating a potential contract.

- RDJ was definitely involved. In fact, I've been hearing Peter and Tony Stark are going to have a lot of screen time together in upcoming MCU films. They're both geniuses and they're both cocky smart-mouths, not to mention that Peter sides with him in Civil War, so they compliment each other very well as characters. I hope that's exciting to hear.

- The big announcement on Thursday MIGHT be Spidey related, emphasis on might, though I'm not 100% sure. Don't have much on a tease for Spidey in AoU either, it is likely though.

- Feige was HEAVILY involved in the casting process and still is as he and Sony are still going over things. As a matter fact, one of the only reasons they liked O'Brien was because of the tone Marvel wanted to go with for Spidey this time around. Which BTW, is comedic, light-hearted, fun. Not emotional, dramatic, or wimpy.

Oh, and a lot of actors performed well I guess, don't really know about that though. What I do know is, that the reason they began to lean towards Dylan instead of Lerman was mostly because of his sarcastic, snarky side. Sony and Marvel figured Lerman was a much better dramatic actor, which wasn't really what the tone they wanted or looked for.

- Definitely, although I wouldn't be disappointed if Lerman swoops in and lands the role at the last second. He's an easy second choice after O'Brien in my opinion.
- But if he's not the right fit as you said, would they still take him? Or are you suggesting he could still prove that he is? And how likely do you think that is?
- He could very much still prove himself, seeing as how nothing has really even been made official yet. But it really is looking like Dylan's gonna get the role, unless something goes wrong with his scheduling, availability and other things of that nature.

It's Reddit, so take it with a grain of salt. But people have said that this user leaked stuff about the deal before and was proven correct, so, we'll see...
