Honestly, I could care less what the disc itself looks like as long as it is not scratched. The only time I see it is when I open the case and put the disc in the PS3 and then when I take it out and put it back in the case.

As long as Paramount is putting out movies with good PQ and AQ then I do not care what the disc has on it. Going to get Top Gun when I get off and don't care if it is gray or blue or purple, I just can't wait to see it and hear it!

I for one care about the total package. I want my movies to be as close to perfect in every aspect as possible.

I bet you're frustrated a lot then.

Yeah, I like neat color art too, and I'd much rather have something colorful like The Mummy or any other disc, but at the end of the day... meh. It's certainly not going to prevent me from purchasing the movie if it's one I like.

Were you offended when this was the case of standard DVD, then? Paramount isn't well known for the disc-art, or even their extras in many cases. A lot of their films were initially released as bare bones discs on standard DVD, and fans eventually had to double dip later if they wanted the same film with good extras (e.g. Titanic, the Friday the 13th series).

Wow, you must be like me--always looking for the Blu-ray with no bent slip covers and the cover has to be in perfect position--in line with the clear plastic cover on the top and bottom.

I forget which studio(I believe it was Disney) but they had very good research showing that disc art(on dvds) was highly desired by the average consumer. People want their products to look good I guess.

It clearly matters to some people. I'm more concerned with the transfer of the film and even the cover art. A lack of disc art doesn't really bother me, but I do admit I'm pleased when I do see a nice disc art. I don't think it's a 'make' or 'break' detail, though, when someone is deciding whether or not to purchase a film.

I recently bought the 2-disc Titanic DVD that came out in 2007 and both discs are gray just like my Anchorman DVD, just like my Zodiac DVD and HD DVD, and on and on. If they aren't willing to give decent cover artwork for a movie that has made around $5 billion for them, then it's not shocking how crappy their artwork is for every other movie. The disppointing thing to me is that it's difficult to read the damn title. I would not mind the gray discs at all if the titles of the movies were printed in black so that you can easily tell you've got the right disc.

I purchased the Titanic 3-disc collector's set that came out in 05 or 06. The packaging is VERY nice, and there was disc art for that release. I also had the original Titanic dvd released ages ago, and it had the gray disc that is all too common with Paramount.

I don't care, though, if they release Titanic on Blu Ray with nice disk art or none at all. IT'd be awesome to see that film in Blu if it's done right. It gets a bad rep from people criticizing it as a chick flick. It does have many of those elements, but as a Titanic buff (I was so as a kid even before this film), I was very pleased with the overall film.

I agree. It does not matter to me how the disc looks. However, I would be extra pleased if the disc looked cool and all, but it does not really matter to me. But I do care if the cover art does look good. Crappy cover art lessens the outer presentation to the movie when it is in my collection, so it kind of stinks when the cover art is terrible. For the disc, though, I really don't care about the art.

I agree with you. I actually mind cover art, but I don't really care what the disc itself looks like, especially considering the fact I'm used to a lot of art-less discs on standard DVD.

The Cruel Intentions cover art is kind of blah--I wish they'd gone with the original poster, but I still love the PQ of the film.

Eh, I can't complain too much when their packaging is so nifty. Paramount won my heart with that 'Cloverfield' "government seal" and the reversible art for 'There Will Be Blood.'

Top gun has a plain grey disc. The case is cheap and has a very small embossed logo that is not very deep. It looked sucked in before I removed the plastic wrap.
but it also has dolby true hd and dtsma for sound

They've done no labels for a couple of years now on the DVD side, so I'm not really surprised with this. Ever since Over the Hedge, all my Paramount DVDs (I still don't have any Blu-rays from them in my collection) have been blank labels- Cloverfield had a what are supposed to be little scratches on it, to make it appear as if it's been tossed around.

The thing with Paramount though is that they're the worst studio when it comes to acting as cheapskates. There's been three big things that studios have done over the years, with DVD, that Paramount was the first to do, at least in my collection. First, they were the first studio that I got a billingual cover from (Star Trek II Director's Cut was the title), then no insert (Star Trek VI SE), then they were the first to stop producing disc labels (Over the Hedge). So them doing this with blu-ray is no surprise to me. But I wonder why they use the same style as DVDs, couldn't they at least make the label blue?

This is very true! I remembered when they released each individual film in the Friday the 13th series. Despite the enormous amount of available bonus materials at the time, they released each film as a complete bare bones version, with only the trailer for an extra. The same for the original Titanic dvd release. To be fair, they eventually re-released the titles--F13 in a collector's set (I didn't enjoy the movies enough to double dip, despite the extras), and Titanic received a 3-disc version a few years ago. But still, as a whole, Paramount is not the leader of the pack when I think of studios that release stellar DVDs. I think New Line is probably one of the best.

While I would like disc art, as long as Paramount keeps delivering high bitrate video encodes with lossless sound I'll be happy. Their releases since coming back to Blu-ray have been very good overall.
