You know what he means. People these days seem to equate a slightly rough look (with a couple of handheld running shots that are like any other handheld running shots) like on Mockingjay with the blatant shakeycam of something like Bourne Supremacy or Hunger Games when there's clearly a difference between them.

If you compare trailers, I forgot which, there's a clip of Gale from behind looking at an oncoming explosion. The early trailer shows a relatively stable picture with a dusty explosion whereas the later trailer shows the explosion with more fire and shaky camera effect added in.

The DP was Tom Stern, who frequently works with Clint Eastwood. Clearly, Stern's work with Eastwood does not look like THG. |

No one said it wasn't! What some people are trying to say - and what I think you said yourself on a previous page? - is that there's a world of difference between the loose vibe of Mockingjay and the outright shenanigans of THG or Greengrass's Bourne. But some folks just lump them under the shakeycam banner regardless, as if handheld camera work hadn't been invented prior to 2004.

I never said their wasn't, my point was it is a tool that film makers can choose how and when to use. Both have chosen to use it, on more then the other absolutely, but that doesn't negate from my point. The first film shouldn't be meddled with to reduce it as that was what the film makers wanted.

Ok I need some quick backstory. I've seen the first one, but I didn't see the second "Catching Fire" and a friend gave me the iTunes code for Mockingjay yesterday so I'm watching it now.
It starts out where she's in some kind of hospital and is whining about her boyfriend. What happened in the previous movie that resulted in the opening few minutes of this movie? |
