Default Sony Says No to Blu-Ray/DVD Hybrid Discs

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ybrid_Discs/88

To this I say, thank God! I hate flippers. Call me crazy or maybe it's the collector in me but I've always liked the content to be on one side of the disc with artwork on the top side. I think this news was to be expected given that Sony had previously mentioned their idea of packaging BDs with their DVD counterpart in select cases as an alternate to hybrid discs.

nyg - My understanding with Blu-ray was that you didn't need to do a flipper type hybrid. Because the data exists at different depths it would actually be possible to put the DVD data above the Blu-ray data and still maintain the artwork, and added proection, on one side of the disc. If this process was perfected for production, it would have meant that not only would the disc be playable in any DVD player or Blu-ray player, but you wouldn't even have to look at the disc to figure out 'which side' to play.

Kind of a bummer IMO that they couldn't get it dialed in to work that way.
