Thanks for posting those screencaps. They look fantastic. I'm really looking forward to my copy arriving (whenever that may be). It was a blind buy.

Actually 1 more question. I have my order in now, and noticed TCM gift cards. Does anyone know what stores I can buys these in? I checked Walmart, Target and Bestbuy online but couldn't find any.

A quick question, is there a reason for paying the extra $5 for ordering at TCM instead of SAE? Are there some advantages of TCM since they don't seem to allow discount codes of TT movies anymore.
IMHO, the only advantage would be if they still had a title in stock which was sold out at SAE.

No advantage what so ever. Every so often they'll ship out your blu's before Twilight Time. But sometimes they'll let you order a stocked title, then they'll place your blu's on backorder, then cancel the whole transaction weeks later with little to no explanation.

The anticipation of seeing if they actually fulfill your order is exciting!

Dammit. Wish I hadn't read that.

Thanks for all the screen shots, MEB! All I can say is....WOW. It's literally like viewing a completely different movie. I can't wait for First Men in the Moon to show up so SAE can send out my order.

Yes, I got a few things from TCM which had been sold out at SAE for a few days, and Body Double I got a few weeks after it had been sold out at SAE. It's a good back-up. I also managed to use discount codes on them a few times (Alfredo Garcia and the two Sinbad movies), but they seem to have gotten better at excluding them in the last year.

They will ship out partial orders unlike SAE (who are religious in waiting until every last title is in stock before sending out in one order).

Only time they may not ship a title is when it is sold out before release day. That of course is on them, and they shouldn't be selling it in the first place.

I mentioned this in the thread for this release, but I feel it needs to be repeated here: if you care about seeing in 1080p the 1959 full CinemaScope trailer for JOURNEY, then you're going to have to keep the 2012 TT Blu-ray. For some reason on the new Blu-ray, a dark and muddy 16X9 cropped version of the trailer is presented. Believe me, it's unwatchable. Why TT would do this with a 4K restoration is puzzling but that's what they've done. The original fully CinemaScope trailer for JOURNEY is especially important because it shows a couple scenes not included in the final cut of the film, such as Mason being lowered on a rope into the crater. It's also just a wonderful old-style fifties trailer and looks great on the 2012 Blu-ray. TT should have ported it over.

No one has yet talked about the commentary track, which I've given a full listen to. It's unfortunately a predictably disappointing one, but only because too much time is spent just letting Diane Baker talk on and on and digress about things. I'd of course preferred more direct talk about the film itself, and in fact Baker says she's not talking about the movie enough, but then this guy who wrote the Herrmann book, Steven C. Smith, and who pretty much leads the entire conversation while Nick Redman stays quite for almost all of it and mostly just chuckles in the background, just lets her ramble on. It's frustrating, and yet enough important and interesting aspects of the production are mentioned, no matter how fleetingly, that I encourage you to give it a listen anyway. Is anything negative said about the movie? To the contrary, it's praised to the hilt, and about the only "negative" comment is that "it's perfect for what it is." The initial casting of Clifton Webb is mentioned but it's also said that it was Webb himself that suggested Mason would be better in the part, and it's told that Mason was happy to take the part at that time because he was apparently a little bummed about his supporting role in NORTH BY NORTHWEST and was glad to be the star of JOURNEY.

TCM have done that multiple times though, on a variety of titles - not just "sold out" Twilight Time titles. Hell they even had problems fulfilling orders OF THEIR OWN EXCLUSIVES.

Basically they can no longer be trusted on titles with limited stock or that are going OOP. To me, it would almost feel like a fluke to actually get an OOP title successfully from them.

TCM would have screwed me out of Golden Voyage of Sinbad if I didn't also order it from Screenarchives at the last second.

I have no problem still using them in the case of discounts (though I am recalling unfulfilled orders on basis of "price mistakes" as well). But they've screwed up enough times I cant trust them at all in cases of blu rays that might be close to being OOP.

The other issue with TCM shop is that orders are shipped in random order and not in the order that they were placed. This is particularly important if you're ordering a limited or OOP item.

The other issue is they frequently end up shipping an order even after they've cancelled an order.

And while they apparently cancel orders for what seem at best to be reasons obscure to the customer, they also have a policy of not allowing the customer to cancel an order after it's been placed. If you want to cancel your order for whatever reason, your only option is to wait until the package arrives and either refuse delivery, or "return to sender".

Very true, they were supposed to be sending me the remaster for Lady From Shanghai and sent me 2 more copies of the original version (at no charge) even though both errored orders were cancelled.

This is what SAE does. Don't see how you can single out TCM when SAE is even worse in this department (even giving priority to those who order at the last minute).

I've received a couple that way, so that, coupled with the fact that they've always completed my orders more quickly than SAE and even do partial shipments as they come in, makes it a little difficult for me to bash them.

Good to hear. I was worried yesterday and tried to cancel my order, but there wasn't an option other than calling cust. I don't see how a brand as legit as TCM could have anything less than decent service, but I guess I'll find out.
