Well had some time and checked my 2007-2008 Lionsgate titles and my Well Go titles. I purchased all of Lionsgate releases on day one...Crank, The Condemed, Stargate, Stir of Echoes, The Devils Rejects and many more all day one purchases and they all look and play 100% fine right now.

I purchased all of the Shaw Bros released by Well Go on their initial week as well as IP Man...they all look and play great .

Only movie out of nearly 1,700 that I had an issue with has been Enter the Dragon.

Your BDs knew they shouldn't mess with a Super Mod.

I bought Walkabout on day 1 and it still plays fine. All the reports of disc gone bad sure make me nervous though.

I looked at my copy of W. I can't tell but it looks like the disc is starting to bronze around the very inner ring. I need to test the disc but, generally it looks like the disc is in fine shape. I would like your two cents.

[Show spoiler]
The change in color looks too neat and uniform to be disc rot, which tends to be splotchy and uneven. You should prolly keep that disc with the data side facing up, though, to remind you to keep checking the disc every couple of months.

I noticed several of my bronze-era Criterions look that way. Pretty sure some of the ones I swapped (the "official" ones) were among them.

Lots of non-bronzing discs look like that too...

Thought maybe I'd also seen some non-Criterions like that, but wasn't sure.

Heard back from C after sending a reminder email regarding Gomorrah--same day, no less!--and was instructed to send it in along with my other defective discs. Did so yesterday.

So.

That's where I'm at.

So they're going to replace discs that aren't on their official list?

Based on the text of the email, it seems as though they're still assessing how many/which titles are affected. I'll follow up again once I get a package back from them.

Not lucky at all. Sure there are isolated cases, but this situation is not as serious as I first believed.

Well believe me, it's very serious... to me, at least.
With 200+ titles that are aesthetically concerning and more than 30 discs that aren't playing correctly anymore.
You ARE lucky.

I'm curious. Someone here mentioned something about visible circles when you blow on the playing surface of some blu-rays. I have to say, I doubt that's a cause for concern as I come across that way too often to think it's a sign of rot. I think it's just a common thing on many blu-rays. If that were the case, then over half my collection would be rotting, which seems highly unlikely.

I'll copy a post I've made in the Silent Hill thread here as Metropolitan have announced an exchange program for two discs with issues, Silent Hill & The Myth. Details below:

OK,

I've been in conversation with a guy at Metropolitan and there is now an official exchange program for Silent Hill & another film 'The Myth' - hooray!!

He's shared with me a press release announcing this and I have exchanged my disc and the replacement works perfectly.

I have included below the original french release and then the google translation

------------------------------------------------------------

Madame, Monsieur,

Metropolitan FilmExport nous a fait part d'un problème de lisibilité dans le temps de deux Blu-Ray fabriqués par la société MPO en 2009 :

- Silent Hill – le film – première édition « collector 2 disques » : 3512391144524

- The Myth - 3512391843885

--------------------------------------------------------

Translation:

---------------------------------------------------------

Dear
Metropolitan FilmExport us by a problem of legibility in time of two Blu-Ray
produced by MPO in 2009:

- Silent Hill - the film - first edition "collector 2 discs": 3512391144524

- The Myth - 3512391843885

After a very thorough analysis by our R & D teams, it appears that these discs show degraded characteristics due to technical batch resin used in the
production of Blu-Ray in 2009.
When checking during the manufacturing process, it was impossible to detect this problem since the technical characteristics of the discs were good. This is the time that the resin has degraded resulting illegibility of Blu-Ray.
Only two titles made by MPO to date are recognized as affected by this issue.
MPO therefore developing an exchange service discs; the exchange will be made upon submission of Blu-Ray defective Silent Hill (film) and the Myth to the following address:

MPO
Service Retour Mlink
ZI de la Boorie
Boulevard de l’Europe
53700 Villaines la Juhel
France

Tel: 02 43 08 36 50
MPO would like to apologize to consumers, and is available for any questions

--------------------------------------------------------------

The contact email address for any queries is standard.metro@metropolitan-films.com

Hope this helps you all out who have a defective disc

My Bigger than Life (Criterion) Disc started having some problems. I see that is listed as "rare" on the list of bad discs. LOOKS normal, but skips badly from 18-25 minute mark which was not the case a couple of years ago. So far it's just the 18-25 minute mark effected, basically had to skip ahead and continue the film. But haven't checked the extras. Unfortunately I can't see the ICPI numbers on this one. I was just about going blind looking at it with LED light. Maybe I'll try again later.

I'll be sending this one in for sure. 1st Criterion I've found to go bad - and actually the 1st disc that has "failed" on me after working the first time (every other bad disc I had was bad straight out of the package).

I sent my copy of Stagecoach back along with my Eraserhead replacement, per their instructions. That was about 4 months ago. Still nothing. Sent one follow up email a while back and I don't think it ever hit their replacement list..........

Got my replacement disc for Enter the Dragon and received the 40th Anniversary Edition, which looks and sounds much better than the 2007 release .

You should at least have received Eraserhead replacement. Have you tried an email to them with Eraserhead in the subject line? When I sent my discs in, along with Eraserhead, I addressed at as Attn: Eraserhead + Jon Mulvaney. (I didn't send any that weren't on their official list.)

The other(s) not on their official replacement list, haven't read too many success stories about others getting replacements for those, but there have been a few mentions of success.
