The one I posted today is completely different. This supposed synopsis focuses more on the actual plot and action and features very little about the characters. We'll probably be able to figure out if it's legit or not when the second trailer comes along. |

I'm fine with FF4 merging with X-Men in sequels but it still feels awkward. But that awkwardness was in the comics too. I liked when they worked with other superheroes but it still felt awkward. I prefered when FF4 just dealt with their own rogues gallery. The same goes for Spiderman popping up with the X-Men or Avengers. The idea is cool that it is a shared universe but I still thought it was awkward for Spidey to be in Secret Wars or Infinity Gauntlet. Spidey just felt like an extra or not useful in those storylines.
So same goes when the FF4 needs to help someone from x-men or Spidey or Avengers. Im not saying it's bad - I loved how Reed hooked up Spidey with a FF4 costume once (Bombastic Bagman) but there is still something awkward and gimmicky about doing so. With Batman, I have no problem whether he sticks with his own Gotham crowd or when he teams up with Justice League. The comics and cartoons have done an impressive writing job for making Batman compatible within the DC universe. |

Yeah, I don't read comics but going by the movies I think the big team crossover stuff kind of hampers each characters' individual world. I like a lot of the solo MCU movies but their vibe and unique tones are really thrown off in The Avengers.
That could just be me not liking Whedon's style, which I don't, but I think what you write makes sense too. Batman works in his own way, but watching him and Superman fighting some space monster just seems too absurd to work IMO. I know it happens in the comics, but these are movies... different thing. We shall see. |

Unlike in the Captain America movies, where Steve Rogers brings about the best in getting along, hanging out and working together. The relationships among Captain America, Falcon, Black Widow, and Fury seem more positive and more like a true Avengers team than the one depicted in The Avengers movie and from what Ive seen in the trailer. Once again, Whedon's style may benefit the Civil War movie where good guys are fighting good guys. I cant see how anyone could support Tony Stark and not Captain America though. |

It's not like Whedon hasn't developed their personal relationships amongst the team. Tony and Bruce became close friends. Tony and Steve did find a mutual respect for one another, even if begrudgingly. I'm sure the relationship between Thor and Cap will be further developed (in the comics, Thor has a great respect for Cap and views him among the finest warriors he's had an honor to fight alongside). And the party scene in Ultron proves that this isn't a group of people who all hate one another. They're mingling and being friendly with each other. They're going to have conflict with one another, sure, but that's natural. No one would buy it if these guys got along all the time and were all happy-smiley constantly. |

Whedon's made his fortune on writing snarky *******s who never leave snark mode even when facing death or love. I doubt the Avengers will be any different until Whedon moves on. Even then they might not, as Whedon's snark-mode has invaded almost all "geek entertainment" and the entire internet.

Also there's a difference between Whedon snark and normal comedy teasing. He's popularized this specific style of whimsical-and-fast-snark-in-any-situation that has taken over so much of "geek" media and commentary (and fans). The Thor standalone movies for example have some Loki snark that is completely different, and Thor-on-Earth and Darcy comedy that aren't snarky at all. The Iron Man movies and Avengers are all Whedon style snark all the time though. Anyway, Whedon's style is just irksome to me. One of my pet peeves you might say. Especially when normal people talk like a Whedon character online (or even worse, in real life). I just want to strangle them and say "REAL LIFE ISN'T BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER" but I resist. ![]() |

Through the years they're friends who mostly get along, but yeah there's been a fair share of snark. It's true it's mostly in recent years too, though, especially when Bendis writes the Avengers (but he writes everyone snarky). |

I would say Whedon's style took over in 1997-1998 when Buffy premiered on TV and became the cultural phenomenon. All he did was take valley girl speak and old comic book speak and modify it into a unique style of his own. That's why I don't mind it in his sci-fi properties because they evolved from the limited storytelling and mannerisms of comic book heroes and a sub culture of teenage trends. The two belong weirdly enough.
