This player was announced in February I think (it was in the winter), so we all knew it was coming for a while at $599. They may have gotten advanced word of the price cut. Also, I think part of the fire sale is to get rid of the HD-A2, since the newer generation players are now out. I think part of it is a clearance sale that all companies run when new models are coming out. However, slashing the price that much, and giving away all that free stuff, still shows the desperation.
