The real kick in the balls came as I was logging off. I needed 11 ascendant shards when the night began to upgrade my gloves to get my third character to a 31. Just as I was logging off dpickles sent me a message and said to join his fireteam for a free loot drop in Crota. I jump in and get a set of raid gloves which instantly made the 8 shards I got worthless.

The shard thing is a blessing in disguise as the gloves that pickles got me are way better than what I was trying to upgrade. Huge thank you to him for being so generous.

I've gotta get my ass in Crota to get some decent guns. My weapon situation is beyond laughable at this point.

Yeah, I just don't have much use for exotic shards right now. I already had 7 exotic shards in my inventory, and that should've already covered what I have on my 2nd and 3rd characters in terms of leveling up. But I'm sure as time goes on, I'll eventually need them. I'm just sick of getting No Land Beyond and Dragon's Breath over and over and over and over.

That was cool of him to give you the drop. That's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of cool Raid gear. I'm available all day to run Crota's End. Hopefully we can run it tonight with the group.

Dodger and I were two-manning the nightfall and he died next to a psion and I didn't have a single void weapon between all three of my characters to break the shield of the smallest enemy in the game. I had to use my rocket launcher to kill him so I could revive Dodger. That's how bad my weapon situation is.

Then it sounds like your priority is to run Crota's End. You'll get some great weapons very quickly.

And on that note, I got Word and Hunger of Crota both on my first normal Crota run last week (thanks again for running me through, volcomsocal). I maxed out Word in no time, and Hunger just needs a few more radiant energy to reach max. I already had pretty good weapons, but these two have become my primary and heavy for all my characters, allowing me to keep Ice Breaker ready the majority of the time. I even use Word over my Hawkmoons now. Void damage on Word annihilated those pesky Psions on nightfall/weekly. Having Hunger now, I also don't see a need to arm Truth unless I need the void damage like with the cliff strategy on Nexus weekly/nightfall. Edit: Of course the drawback now is I'm back to swapping weapons all over again lol.

A bit of advice on leveling up raid armor: Hold off putting ascendent shards into a piece until you have all circles completely unlocked, and you have all of the ascendent material you need to fully level the piece. This way, if you happen to get a better piece (better stats) before you can fully level what you have, you haven't wasted shards on a piece you're not going to use. I learned this the hard way early-on.
