If you do the "Make Contact" gesture (you get it from a statue in Upper Cathedral) in front of the downed Mother Brain for about 30 seconds, you get a Rune ("Moon") that gives you +30% Blood Echoes, which stacks with the earlier versions of "Moon" .

I currently have the +30% version, and the +10% (you get in Hypoean Gaol). Apparently there is a +20% I missed in Mergot's Loft.

My runs in Lecture Hall went from 11k Blood Echoes to 15.5k+ Blood Echoes each (in about 2 minutes). With the third rune I could be looking at 18k+ every 2 minutes.
I have a few "Moon" runes & while the mother brain seems interesting & creepy, I found one similar or better then the Make Contact one. Thanks, I'll try that out.

I made it to Cathedral Ward yesterday in NG+ & went rounding up people. So far just got the little girl & ol lady.

I'm going to skip the Root Dungeons considering they're always randomized apparently, well, I'll do that one you mentioned earlier. It seems like it's the highest level and the drops are good. I think I've finished just about all of the main ones.

Started NG+ and was burning through it last night. Sent the old woman to the Chapel and the girl(who doesn't make it of course).

I must say that Father Gascoigne was a lot easier this time around despite the game difficulty increasing. It wasn't just because I knew what to expect but I had no idea using the music box early makes him transform.

This time he didn't change until he only had a quarter of life left. Once he changed I used the box and it was lights out for him.

I think I'm going to keep my Bloodborne guide pre-order. lol

I seem to be clueless regarding what story items do what.

I beat the father in NG+. It was a complete slaughter fest. I think the fight lasted around 40 seconds.

How much stronger would you guys say the mobs/ bosses appear to be in NG+?

Some people say that traditionally in the Souls series it's about 40% more dmg/ HP, but at least for starter zones that doesn't seem like much (after leveling up and upgrading weapons).

You know where the old lady is in the home near the dog cages, the one you can send to the chapel or clinic? Past her house is the way to the sewers. When you enter that first room right after her house there are a lot of boxes/barrels around. In that back right corner is a open space in the wall to drop down on a wooden platform that runs around the next room. Once you land go right and there will be another hole in the wall behind some more boxes/barrels. It leads right to her.

In case you want to find her for the same reason I did, I missed getting her badge for the weapon on first playthrough, you can fight and kill her for it if you don't care about playing out her storyline.

Yeah, 40% was the increase for the Souls games so I imagine it's not much different for this one. I just leveled up so much in the Dungeons that it's making NG+ not that much harder than the first run through.

I'm at the giant cathedral (even though I went past it to the charnel area) but I still have like no idea what I'm doing or what is going on in the story.
anyone have any tips? I just got ludwigs holy blade and upgraded it but still feel like the cleaver is better. just switched to the repeating pistol but it goes through ammo so fast.

I just unlocked the checkpoints for the "Church of the Good Chalice" and the "Forbidden Woods". I'm currently lvl 40. Which should I tackle first? I don't really care if you list spoilers, so all information is appreciated.

Go in the Cathedral and take on that boss, or go through the Hemwick Charnel and take on that boss. I still use the saw cleaver and single shot pistol in NG+.

I think the church is kind of a dead end for you right now. Forbidden Woods will take you to Shadow of Yharnam then Lecture Hall and Rom. You'll be well above level 40 by the time you get there.

Has anyone figured out how to open this door yet? If not I'm guessing it's going to involve possible future expansions/downloadable content.

It's connected to this room...

Which is found through here...

where are the NPCs looking for safe haven? I don't think I've found one that I can remember and I'm past the first two bosses. I beat The Father on my first try somehow but I seem to suck.

The old lady is near the dog kennels. You cross that tiny arch bridge and her house is right on your left, there will be a lantern on outside.

House just before the Father has the little girl
House near the dog cages has the old woman
Two houses at the lower end of the road during your first trip to the Cathedral, when you have to bypass the cemetery with the two giants, because it's locked, just past the first enemy you encounter with the flame sprayer, I believe, you will find Arianna on one side and the guy who calls you a liar on the other.

My PS4 power settings shut it down for me to day. Forgot about that. So no memory drain bonus. That's okay, though, I usually check out Drive Club first, as I can't drive once the adrenalin gets flowing.

I feel like I explore everything and none of that even sounds familiar. I hate not having a map. I feel like I play late at night and once I accomplish something I quit. Then the next day I forget everything. Last night I died to some guy with a shield and electric mace, this morning started up and found a lamp past great cathedral in the charnel something or other but never once ran into that electric guy again. Not sure where the hell he was.

The guy with the bolt infused tonitrus is a hunter of hunters. If going up the steps toward the exterior door of the Cathedral, turn right, and you will come to him and his partner. Don't bother going that way yet. It's a dead end right now. Go left, and you get to Hemwick Charnel. Go far enough, and the boss in that area is among the easiest in the game.

This is a collection of the story (based on the hints dropepd throughout the game and a hefty dose of guesses as well) up to the time when the game starts made by someone on Gamefaq:

I don't agree with all points, but it gives a decent idea aobut how everything took a turn for the worst in Yarnham.

Quote:
> In ancient times the Great Ones came to this world.
They came from the "Cosmos" which could mean outer-space or another dimension.
However, a text in-game says: "The cosmos and the skies are the same"
This points to space and that the Great Ones are quicksilver based aliens.

> The ancient civilization Pthumeria
-Pthumeria was an ancient civilization ruled by Queen Yharnam
long before the city of Yharnam existed (Pthumeria sounds like Sumeria? *wink wink*)
- It was populated by Sumerians err...Pthumerians, an ancient race of people who truly understood the Truth of the Great Ones.
- Queen Yharnam was the medium/representative of the Great Ones (Choir discovered a medium, though she’s the only likely candidate).
- The Great Ones wanted children-hosts. Queen Yharnam was the 1st attempt at making a Great Child
but her baby died and she failed to deliver.
- Eventually the Pthumerians retreated into a deep labyrinth,
with their holy chalices being the actual keys to their ancient rituals and various areas in the Labyrinth.

> After a long time (thousands of years?) the City of Yharnam is built where Pthumeria existed.

> The new Yharnamites escavated the old ruins and found the Deep Labyrinth of Pthumerians.

> The Academy of Byrgenwerth is created to study the Labyrinth and the Great Ones in there.
- They discover the effects on mixing blood with the Great Ones.
- The discovery lead some to madness and start to creat an artificial Great One (The One Reborn).
- Some scientist escape the maddening Academy and create the Healing Church in Yhrnam bringing the Chalices with them.
- They declare the Academy and the woods "Forbidden"

> The Choir is formed (highest order of Clerics) in the Healing Church and start experiments with the blood and the Chalices.
Their goal is understanding the Great Ones and gain their abilities.
- This leads to the Ashen Blood Plaque, a poison so powerfull even antidotes were useless.
- The Church desperately burns Yharnam and everyone in it.

> Central Yharnam is build next to the Old-Burnt Yharnam.
- The experiments continue and now it leads to the beast plaque.
- The Choir creates the order of Hunters to kill the beasts and prevent the disease from spreading
- Gehrman is one of the very first hunters if not the 1st. Gehrman creates the workshop where Hunters create their weapons.
- Hunters use altered beast blood to enhance themselves and combat the beasts. (Like Dragon Age darkspawn blood and Wardens)

> The Blood Ministration is founded: The art of using blood for healing.
- The church used it for every illness. The pungent cocktail suggests that it even replaced alcohol in Yharnam for how intoxicating it was.
- The church rose quickly to incredible prestige for the healing qualities of the blood.
- However they still couldn't cure the beast plaque. Neither stop its spreading.

> The Orphanage is founded
- Children were abducted from the streets of Yharnam and experimented upon to become hosts for the Great Ones.
- This lead to the Celestial Emissary Great One returning to the world.

> Cainhurst wants and starts to experiment with blood themselves
- They hunt and kill Hunters and take their blood
- Their Queen (Annalise) becomes immortal and wats to create a Great Child too (Blood Child)
- The Choir responds with sending Lagarius and his Executioners to purge them.
- Annalise is immortal so Lagarius still stands guard in front of her.

> Situations is out of control
- Hunters slowly become beasts themselves
- Yharnamites start to help the Hunters in their hunt and get infected too.
- Ludwig and some fellow hunters leave the old Hunter order to create more powerfull and forbidden weapons
- Ludwig is considered the first hunter of the new order.

> The "Hunters of Hunters" order kills the hunters that have become beasts (Eileen in among them)

> Yharnam is in ruins full of beasts

> The Choir makes a breakthrough. They make themselves the Moon Presence Great One.
(The Heling church = The Choir = created hunters = beckoned hunters = What Moon Presence does)
- With Insight (=God Knowledge) and Gehrman they create the Hunter's Dream.
- Gehrman acts as a guide for new Hunters.
- Their new goals are 1. Purge beasts 2. Find a way so the rest of humanity can follow them as celestial hosts.
- Every Red Moon they impregnate women to create children hosts
- Female Hunter MC won't get impregnated because of the beast repelent blood she received at the beginning.
In particular, I do not necessarily agree that The Choir became The Moon Presence.

What we DO know for sure is that as The Hunter (player) arrives in Yarnham, looking for a remedy to his incurable sickness, a Hunt for beasts is going on in the streets.
<what follows is my current understanding>

All the events unravelling from that point forward seem to have been ordained by Great Ones (terrifying gigantic alien creatures), which are kept hidden from sight by an effect cast by a creature named Rom, who lives in his own pocket dimension, well hidden.
Their goal, in particular this very night of the Blood Moon, is the creation of a new Great One new born, an event which has been preordained (a "womb" is supposed to be granted this "privilege", in effect a woman is supposed to give birth to an Alien creature this very night).

At the very beginning of the story you were "temporarily" helped by an injection of (contaminated) blood, but as your rescuer mentions, you will need to find "Pale Blood" to save yourself. The Church oversees the ministration of blood, so getting to the Healing Church and finding someone who can help is your first goal.
Eventually you find out that most if not all Church Clerics as well as their own order of hunters (Executioneers) have been contaminated by plagued blood ("Beware of the Old Blood"?) and turned into beast or driven mad and locked in a conflict with Cainhurst (a clan led by Queen Annalise from Cainhurst castle) which uses "vile blood" for their own purposes. A third clan of Hunters tries to bring back order (Hunters of Hunters - cf Eileen the Crow) but they are few and outgunned, even though the Vilebloods have now been decimated. Most other Hunters attack on sigh, unless they can see you are part of their covenant. Eileen is a rarity, but you have to introduce yourself early on.

At first you fight the now monstruous Clerics and their Hunters (The Beast, Father Gascione, Blood Starved Beast, Vicar Amelia) but soon find out that must more sinister forces are at play that at one time the Church tried to suppress and study (closing down the Academy that studied these ancient forces, forbidding entrance to Hemwick Charnel Lane, and the old woods leading to Byrgenwerth itself), perhaps even ending up worshipping them. You find out that a coven of Witches in Hemwick Lane worship said forces, shadows having risen under their spells, and while forbidden practices are at play in Yarnham itself to master the Great Ones blood (Iosefka's clinic), you find an Ancient One when finally travelling to Byrgenwerth and end up killing him, revealing to all the truth behind the veil it had been casting.

You continue to investigate, searching for a cure, now fighting Ancient Alien Gods themselves, but throughout it all you cannot help wonder if with each victory and each breakthrough in understanding it all throughout new insights ... You are not in fact one step closer to bringing a sinister and very old plan to fruition ... as an ethereal baby's cry can be heard resonating throughout Yarnham.
