Definitely a shock to me after their last few box-sets. A welcome surprise!

Great to see they're headed in the right direction, even if the Rossellini set was a digipack (but I guess the smaller ones aren't so bad...the Kurosawa one is very handsome). A shame they couldn't do the same for Herzog, who is my all-time favourite.

I must admit, I was in two minds about getting this day-one but I'm very tempted now. They look to be Viva Elite cases, am I right (or at least slim ones)? Great to see full artwork for each one though! I may think about cancelling my £35 Zavvi pre-order and going with MovieMail as I think they're a little less likely to cock up my order or send it with insufficient packaging.

Doubtful. It was all encoded, authored, finalized, and sent off for replication weeks ago.

Do you know if this set is also limited to 3,000 like the War Trilogy? Thanks

Do any of you guys use Moviemail regularly? I'd heard bad things about them since last years takeover, but this is a great price there.

I don't use them much anymore. Got the Vincent Price Poe boxset from them: came in a large jiffy - only one corner slightly squashed. But I've got £5 in points to spend and not sure whether to get this boxset or the Rosselini one.

I haven't used them recently because I've heard those same things. Submitted a lower price to Amazon so hopefully they price match

I'd go for Dreyer over Rossellini, personally...more value for money and a nicer set. Though obviously if you prefer one filmmaker over the other just do that!

I've been using them every month or two when they have bargains, but on more than one occasion items have arrived damaged again and again - meaning I had to return them, wait for them to order another copy in and send a replacement, which took up to 2 weeks for a couple of items (meaning I didn't get a non-damaged copy 'til about 4-6 weeks later). Most recently, I ordered the limited edition version of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, and they just sent the regular 2-disc version, so of course I sent it back and asked for a full refund (waiting to hear back from them on that).

I've not ordered a box set from them, but I seem to remember there being some controversy around the Camera Obscura set, with many people having their pre-orders cancelled and missing out on copies. In some cases the order was eventually fulfilled, but still that's bad news. As for packaging, I don't know who would be better for a set like this - Zavvi, or MovieMail? Has anyone got any of the recent BFI sets from either retailer, and if so what was the packaging like? I do hope Amazon drop their price to match MovieMail as obviously I'd stick with them.

I had to contact Movie Mail today about the Rossellini box set I ordered on 28 March. My order was still showing it was on order and would ship in 5-7 days. The customer service rep said it was being prepared for shipment and would be posted on Monday so we'll see... I'll provide an update on delivery condition when it arrives. The Dreyer set is a good price on Movie Mail....

One and only time I used them was a nightmare, took over 5 weeks for 2 artificial eye releases. Had to email them 2 weeks after I ordered and remind them they were in business.

I hope the boxes are sturdier than their previous releases.

Any reviews on this set yet?

MichaelB said he had received his review copy. I know he has reviewed BFI releases for Sight & Sound before, but that's a subscription magazine.

You can get it in Smiths too...I usually get it if I ever happen to be in Smiths that month.

Like Rapta says, you can pick it up widely enough, in WH Smiths and at art galleries, independent cinemas, places like that. My local Tesco even stocks it now.

Any news on the packaging from MovieMail? Still wondering whether to go with them instead of Zavvi (basically the same price), unless Amazon drop their price a little (last-minute).

Default Movie Mail

I heard back from Movie Mail yesterday and was told the Rossellini set had just come back in stock and would be shipped to me in 24 hours. They also said it would take 5-7 days to reach me. Not sure why it would take so long as I live in London and Movie Mail is not on the other side of the earth....

Yeah...I reckon that's to cover their own backs. They ship from Guernsey, hence the 5-7 days thing. I cancelled my Zavvi pre-order anyway, so now I hope Amazon's price drops before the weekend or else I'll go with MovieMail.

Default Movie Mail

I received the Rossellini box from Movie Mail yesterday. It arrived safely, packed in a padded (bubble wrap) mailer. I've noticed their website is now quoting quicker shipping times than before.
