Hard to believe that any genre fan would not be aware that Invasion Of The Body Snatchers inspired a remake, especially when said remake is considered one of the best ever done.

The UK Arrow release of that is superb, provided you have a region-free player.

I think the 78 one is one of the best Thriller, horror or sci fi there is in my opinion, it's just so good.

No.

It doesn't warrant a double dip.

For some reason, there seems to be a belief among a small group of people that Scream needs to waste resources by releasing their own versions of perfectly good MGM Blu-rays.

The MGM Blu-ray is good and it's cheap.

Nobody needs to waste money double-dipping on this disc...Scream shouldn't do it and none of us need to rebuy it. There are plenty of unreleased Blu-rays that Scream needs to do.

Fair enough.. normally I'd agree with you as well. But EFNY, Mad Max, etc etc which really have no business in the Scream lineup were determined to be worth a double dip, this just seems like a no brainer in my mind.

As for not having any knowledge of the '78 remake. Despite having grown up in the 80's/90's and being a regular watcher of Monstervision and USA Saturday Nightmares, for whatever reason this one never crossed my path that I'm aware of. I was well aware of the original (Of which I had/have absolutely NO interest in whatsoever) but hadn't ever seen anything about the remake. Nor have I ever heard/seen anyone on these forums talk much about it in any of these threads either.

The 78 remake is considerably better than the original IMO. The MGM bluray is decent, and then there's a much better version from Arrow which has been out for a few years. Either version is way better than the bare-bones Olive version of the original, if one of them calls for a re-release it's that one! I'm surprised you never saw anyone mention it before. It came up A LOT recently when Leonard Nimoy died, since it's probably his most famous non-Trek role and was a great use of his persona. Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Veronica Cartwright and Jeff Goldblum are the other stars and all of them are still quite well-known today (Brooke Adams and Veronica Cartwright much less than the guys, but Alien and Days of Heaven are pretty major).

More importantly, though, the 93 version needs a release. I like it almost as much as the first two versions. It's really, really well-done (besides one blue-screen effect which I think anyone who's seen the movie will remember!), and it stars Gabrielle Anwar who's become somewhat of a cult favorite thanks to Burn Notice in the years since. Seems like an oversight. It's a lot better than most of the stuff Scream has been releasing recently IMO.

I don't really disagree with you but Scream's bread and butter is extras and packaging, so pretty much any genre movie is probably on their radar if they can get a hold of it. I'm sure a lot of people think Mad Max and Escape From New York are wastes of time but they will probably be among Scream's biggest sellers.

The MGM US release of the 78 version is missing dialogue from a radio transmission apparently. It's the reason I sold it and got the Arrow release.

I love the original and remake of Body Snatchers.. both are just outstanding *****( 5 star) films

Lets hope WB does release *Body Snatchers* but this year it seems their horror thrust will be Hammer films which I would enjoy just as much , if not more.

It makes me wonder if Scream would actually license *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* as a key title to announce at the San Diego comic con. I wouldn't put it past them to do a CE of the film. I still think they have Bubba Ho Tep. Since they are on the Universal announcements Im guessing they have the Car, Sssssss and hopefully Demon Knight + Village of the Damned.

My big wishlist would be a USA release of Island of Terror

After watching "A History of Horror" the BBC Documentary earlier this week, my interest in Hammer films is at an all time high at the moment so I'd be down with some more Hammer Horror. If it comes from WB we could look forward to it dropping in price fairly quickly as well. (It's too bad we couldn't get a nice 8+ film collection to mirror the Universal Monster Collection though). It'd also be nice if WB released Tales from the Darkside on behalf of Paramount this year as well.

I'm in agreement with you though on some of your guesses. I think Bubba Ho Tep is a sure thing, and I'm hopeful for a Demon Knight collectors edition or double feature with Bordello of Blood. I think Village of the Damned has a strong possibility of being licensed, and I'm really REALLY hoping for Tales from the Hood.

With Hammer flicks I'd suggest just getting the cheap multi-movie DVD sets available in this country, I think there's a good chance many of them won't get upgraded to bluray and they're currently still cheap and in-print and some of them look quite good by DVD standards. (The 3 Sony "Icons" sets, the Universal 8 movie set, the TCM one with the 2 frankensteins and 2 draculas, and the 4 film WB dracula set). Of these, I can guarantee not all of them are going to hit RA bluray, though a few of the ones in the TCM and WB set might; the DVDs are so cheap I don't think it's a big waste of money if you're curious about the movies. There's also a very cheap DVD set of Frankenstein Created Woman, Dracula Prince of Darkness and Legend of the 7 Gold Vampires if you don't feel like buying the blurays of the first two...it's highly unlikely the third is ever going to make it to blu-ray so I bought it on top of the blurays anyway.

Then you can fill in most of the gaps with that huge DVD set from the UK if you have a region free dvd player. It has a lot of the more minor movies which are nothing special (Viking Queen, Vengeance of She, etc) but it also has some of the most important classics which are not available in the US at all unless you want to spend a fortune on OOP dvds (Quatermass and the Pit, Plague of the Zombies, The Reptile) and some others which are only available in compromised versions in this country right now (She is MOD, One Million Years BC is heavily edited) I went on a binge trying to buy every single hammer suspense/horror/sci-fi last year and became intimately familiar with how many movies are long OOP in this country and extremely expensive if you don't import (ex most of that studiocanal ultimate box, Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde, Lost Continent, Abominable Snowman)

There are so many of these darn movies that I had to make a spreadsheet to keep track of which ones I was missing and what region the versions I had were.

I got linked to a thorough list of Hammer DVD releases and even that was super confusing.

I want to collect more Hammer stuff but I am going to wait and see what WB puts out before buying any on DVD. You never know, WB might work with some other studios to release something relatively comprehensive.

With the Video Dead and Terror Vision having received the double feature treatment some time ago, what are the odd's that Scream Factory could/would consider releasing "Munchies" on Blu Ray? It's no where near the top of my want list, but it's a fun Horror comedy Gremlins rip off that I'd gladly pick up if given the opportunity. I have fun memories of watching this on the USA network during Summer afternoons when school was out in the 90's. Who owns the rights to this, anyone know?

I think it's impossible given how scattered the rights are. Just sticking to the more major horror/sci-fi/suspense/adventure titles, there were 90 of the movies, and not all of them are in print ANYWHERE, but most of them are, and it's all kinds of different formats and different studios. You've got everything from public domain (Satanic Rites of Dracula) to the ones yanked from release and now locked up in the WB vault (When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth) to made-on-demand ones (Sony - Creatures the World Forgot, Lionsgate - Lust for a Vampire, several from Warner) to the handful that MGM had which have all already been released by various labels (the Synapse blurays, Shout's Vampire Lovers disc). Then there are the tons which are totally OOP in this country and seem to all be owned by Studiocanal.

So yeah, if they can make a 90 movie box set that's a collaboration between 10 different studios I'll be the first to buy it, but I think more likely we'll get a handful of WB's 15 titles they still have and be stuck importing most of the rest of them. Anolis in Germany is releasing them at a pretty good clip now, but there's just so many of the darn movies I don't think we'll ever get close to seeing all of them on bluray.

Warner bought the Hammer films from Paramount. Many of the others are with Studio Canal. The chances of Warner acquiring the Studio Canal library arent too great Id say. Warner has their own Hammer titles and they are hinting at releasing some or all of them.

I think Island of Terror would be a fantastic release for Scream Factory. A cool and freaky Peter Cushing Saturday afternoon classic.

For those who are interested, the recent UK disc is region-free.

I have it but I would rather have a Region A - Id rather support US labels but when I want a film bad enough Ill import but my preference would be USA releases.
