Friends on Blu-ray?

what does all this have to do with the Friends blu-ray release? As of late everyone wants to argue....What gives?

Friends is WB so I wouldnt expect a whole lot when and if it gets released
Seinfeld is the top selling tv on dvd set by far, and while the blu-ray format is new and the audience is limited I am sure they are waiting before they do a full scale launch when there is a 25% sales to dvd

just because it was broadcast in 4:3 doesn't necessarily mean it was shot on academy film, which is a 4:3 ratio.

it is still possible that they shot it on widescreen film stock, but the camera operator frames for 4:3, which means you won't gain much by seeing it in 16:9. the extra image could contain camera crew, gear, etc..

whether movies or tv shows are shot on film vs. high definition has little to do with how the blu-ray will look.

film resolution is extremely high and can hold up better than most hd material out there.

WB has stated that Friends would probably hit blu-ray by the end of '11 at least S1 or a few more.

and plus Friends was shot in letterbox in 33mm. then edited onto video.

If you watch friends as much as i have and you watch them on a HDTV which is wider you'll notice there is more image .

If it was shot using the 3-perf Super 35 process, the negative image would be appx 16:9. Which would make it perfect for blu-ray. I think a lot of television shows are now being shot in this process.

I believe, though I'm not certain, that this show was shot on standard 35mm. Still great for blu-ray as film obviously has higher resolution than 1080 HD, but I'd prefer it to stay in the 1.33:1 aspect ratio if this were the case.

I really really REALLY want this on Blu-Ray!! I SO hope Warner Bros. will recognize that there is still a lot of sales potential for this show (both blu-ray sales and HD-syndication). I really wish they will make the huge effort of remastering the show from the 35mm film...

Friends is one of very few shows to have a such huge impact in pop-culture - it is truly WORTH preserving it in the highest quality possible...
