I always wanted to see the original trilogy in theaters, so I'm definitely gonna try and go.

Went to see Avengers: Age of Ultron tonight. After the Star Wars trailer ended, an audience member said "Can I get an amen".

Audience answered "amen".

Everyone laughed.

Anticipation is running high.

the good thing is the marathon will probably be in chronological order so just show up late to catch the OT and VII on the big screen

4 of them. Star Wars, ESB, ROTS and I guess ROTJ. Just not a big fan of ROTJ but it's still worthy/good enough.

I have to disagree. I realize that Return of the Jedi has some serious issues. But the final 30 minutes is so awesome, I'm always willing to sit through the 90-minute train wreck that precedes it.

RotJ may not be on the same level as Episodes III, IV, and V. But it's still worth watching.

I think Jedi is worthy, but not the prequels.

Hey I know, let's have another prequels versus original trilogy debate! We haven't done that to death, no sir!

Their new idea is to create female versions of their successful films and create a multi film cross-over universe. I'm beginning to think that if Amazing Spider-Man 2 had done better, we just might be seeing that Aunt May film that was discussed in the leaked E-mails.

I thought the 21-22 Jump street movies were entertaining and the original Ghostbusters is a classic, but....really?!?!
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to create a Ghostbusters universe of movies? Or, a friggin 21 Jump Street Universe?!? Who hires some of these Hollywood executives?

I enjoy films with strong female leads, so this is not criticizing the idea of female leads. Sony pictures is becoming a joke though. Seriously, they reek of desperation.
I'm with you. I like the idea of more female leads in movies, but Sony's approach of "Take this existing property and just flip all the characters to women" is really sad.

LOL!

I've only seen the OT and Phantom Menace. So I can't even justifiably make an argument. But yeah, it seems like this has happened before.

I agree that Hollywood bean counters in recent years have a tendency to cast female leads into films that have traditionally weak female attendance. It's an obvious attempt to maximize the box office potential. Guys will always show up on account of the genre. Having a female lead increases interest among girls.

But I don't believe The Force Awakens is one of these movies.

Some directors have a natural predisposition to tell stories from a female character's perspective. J.J. Abrams is one of them. His first original creations in television were Felicity & Alias, two shows that were told from the perspective of a woman. His third creation was Lost, which was originally conceived with Kate as the lead. Jack was supposed to die in the pilot episode, but they made a last minute change and he ended up taking the lead role.

Then his first original creation for the big screen was Super 8. Again, it's a show where the main character is a girl (Elle Fanning). And so when I found out that Abrams would be the writer/director for Episode VII, I already knew it would have a female lead.

Did you see Super 8?

Because Elle's a lead, but not the main character.

Are you ignoring Taking Care of Business, Regarding Henry, Forever Young, and Gone Fishin' because he wrote but didn't direct them, or are you ignoring them because they make your assertion look even more foolish?

You didn't know a Star Wars movie would have a female lead until you read that JJ was involved?

Seriously???

They've all had female leads. Hell, the cartoon had a female lead.

ROTJ is my favorite of the original 3. I too realize it isn't perfect, but like you said, the really awesome parts of the movie more than make up for the weak parts and IMO are some of the strongest of the entire trilogy. There's just so many cool things about seeing ROTJ back in 1983...

Seeing Jabba for the first time after hearing him mentioned in previous films.

Seeing Luke's green saber for the first time.

The Rancor sequence (I love this scene)

Yoda's death scene

The speeder bike sequences (was really cutting edge stuff in 1983)

The amazing Emperor/Vader/Luke sequences

The revelation of Leia being Luke's sister

Hearing the name "Anakin Skywalker" for the first time.

The redemption of Vader/Anakin.

Seeing the emperor's bad ass force lightning for the first time.

The epic final scene of seeing Anakin, Yoda, and Obi-Wan standing together as force ghosts.

Hell I even enjoy the Ewoks and back then I never heard anybody complain about them. It really wasn't until the internet did I start hearing so many SW fans ***** about Ewoks. It was actually a bit of a shock to me.

Jedi came out in 1983 though. I like the Ewoks too, I'm not bothered by this kind of stuff in the Star Wars universe.
