But it doesn't say it on the back...plus it's from Australia.

This doesn't help...much.

This is where one needs to have some extra bit of patience. I have contacted the retailers to learn more about the re-issue. amazon.co.jp is suddenly displaying 2 versions of SR [Blu-ray] that probably implies some kind of unreported re-issue of the BD.

Anyone have an extra copy out there for superman returns with pcm sound that they are willing to sell, let me know. I will pay for the disc and shipping of course... send a private message if you have one. Please confirm the audio before mailing since I already have the dolby digital version.

If there's no discernable difference between the two, then how would you know?

I gave up trying to look for the TrueHD one on ebay.

Every time I'd ask a seller about the audio, they'd reply back:

"Not sure what you mean but the disc looks great and plays better then DvD's and is in great great great condition."

Honestly...what is that??? "Great great great condition." Is that like...code for Balls out or something??? They are all lunk heads.

They will probably be released here with a different SKU, just like the Terminator 3 re-release.

lgans316, just let us know. I will definitely want to pick this up if it has the lossless audio tracks available.

Does this release have the extras in high-definition like the HD DVD version? Or is it still presented in standard def like the original Blu-ray pressing?

Hysterical! But true. I don't think most people know what the hell lossless audio and CODECs are on eBay.

As far as I'm concerned, the existence of a new SR blu-ray with lossless is an urban legend. Recently, I toured 6 Best Buy's, 4 Circuit City's and 3 Fry's and never found a copy with the new codecs. The screen pic could be any menu, can anyone tell if it's actually the SR menu? If someone has an official official announcement let me know.......

I've recently trekked the city looking at the backs of every Superman Returns BD I can fit into my hand and have found jack squat. I'm joining in the urban legend declaration.

Well, half of the "S" logo in the bottom left corner kinda gives it away.

Well the menu has a Superman logo in the lower left corner for one thing.

If anyone had actually read the linked thread, Warner in Australia and possibly Japan have secretly released the version with lossless audio in the same packaging and UPC as the first release. So for people in those territories it seems to be a crapshoot even now if you want the lossless audio version. You won't know which one you have until you open the case and play the disc. The video encode has already determined to be the same one as the first lossy version.

If this version doesn't start showing up in the U.S. or elsewhere I think I'll be begging one of the Aussie members to get me a copy.

Thumbs up Update on the re-issue

Warner has re-issued Superman Returns in Japan. Let me check in the stores during lunch break and revert back.

Reply from amazon.co.jp confirming there was a re-issue

************************************************** ************

Thanks for writing to Amazon.co.jp.

I browsed our website for you and found this item that most closely matches what you were searching for:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B001AHAGTW

This item is re-issue version which released on June 2008.

I hope this is what you hoped to find. I've also included some information below about finding products on Amazon.co.jp that you may find helpful in the future.

************************************************** ************

Reply from dvdcrave.com.au confirming presence of both PCM and Dolby True HD

I just played a Blu Ray Superman Returns and yes, it does have the PCM and Dolby True HD.

If you do choose to order this item, please put a note on your order to check for the PCM & Dolby True HD Audio Track so that if I am not here tomorrow that Vanessa can check it for you.

Thanks to AVS members spizz and BenjaminG for promptly notifying about the re-issue. I pity those people who spent $80+ to get this one on eBay and a shame on Warner for deliberately excluding these tracks in their original release.

Oddly to those of us not down under, Australia is a very good source for info since they have actual laws against region specific content and players. I scan Bestbuy every trip hoping they have might accidentally sneaked a lossless version in.

Edit P.S. (sarcasm) It comes from being populated by criminals from England. Imagine, today, if you could get sentenced to Sydney for the theft of milk: would you do it? HELL YES!
