Default Splatoon - Discussion Thread

Splatoon will be released in May 29, so that's about 10 days from now.

Things we know for now:

1) There'll be another online demo round on May 23.
2) This is what the disc artwork looks like.

Looks like Nintendo are catering more to Americans than the Japanese with this one (the yen is weak atm, so good idea).

Although I do hear they love tentacles in Japan

If they did then they would've made the game priced at $40 because in Europe/UK it's going for roughly £25 which is $38.

My copy's been dispatched and since the servers are up I'll be playing whenever I get it.. hopefully tomorrow.

First impressions:

- Online gameplay is smooth.
- Offline multiplayer feels like the framerate's dropped down.
- Wii U Pro Controller could've been a fantastic controller if Nintendo had used it for an alternate choice.
- Music is pretty cool and a breeze of air.
- The dialogue boxes and its "language" are a bit annoying.
- Game while enjoyable feels too boring, lifeless and serious without voices.

It doesn't make sense why this game doesn't have voiceovers for its characters when other games out there do and it would have suited them perfectly. Same goes for the lack of voice chat.

It definitely is! The game should've retailed in US and Canada for $40 equally because it just feels too empty of a game.

On the online mode you have up to 5 maps although from experience I've only got to play 2 of them most of the time.. er, one to be exact (the other rarely ever came up). Offline you've got the Story Mode which is really dull and has 27 chapters.

Just don't buy it for $60/CND$70.

It's your choice.

I spent £22.95 ($35) and I'm still like "god dammit, there's barely any replay value and the maps only change every 4 hours".

Squid Girl (Shinryaku! Ika Musume), an anime/manga about a squid with poorly-thought-through plans of world domination, is crossing over with Splatoon, a new Nintendo game also about squids in human form (called "Inklings"). Nintendo posted this picture of the two lead characters armed with ink-squirting guns on its Twitter account.

Masahiro Anbe, creator of the Squid Girl manga, has also drawn these images of the two girls together. They are printed in this week's Weekly Shōnen Champion and Famitsū magazines.

Nintendo and Anbe are planning a collaboration, but further details have not been disclosed. Anbe has previously shown interest in Splatoon and posted this drawing of an Inkling in a school uniform on his Twitter on April 1.

Splatoon will be released in North America and Europe on May 29 and in Australia on May 30.

Nintendo has decided to make more and more maps accessible in multiplayer for the next few months. There are even going to be new modes. All of that free of charge.

Pikmin 3 sold really poorly so it's no surprise there's somewhat of demand for it.

Wouldn't have minded to pay full price just to have the entire content from launch day.

Yeah. The retail price in US and Canada for Splatoon really makes no sense whatsoever.

US = $60
CA = $70

Europe/UK have the actual proper price which is £25 ($38). I'd never spend £32-35 (what a full priced game costs in UK for Wii U) for Splatoon if it was so damn lacking in content as it is now.

If you reach Level 10 online and think you're gonna unlock Rank Battle then forget it, it's unavailable as of right now. NoA didn't keep their word.

Anyway, it's a fun game but if you play in long sessions you'll begin to feel bored the hell out.

I guess they want to keep it fresh.

I got the Special Edition for around $40 in Europe (which includes the Squid Amiibo). Also I don't get that - they will release lots and lots of content in the next months. For free. Why would they charge even less now? That would only make sense if the content wasn't free, but paid DLC. The game itself is polished to the max. Perfect framerate. No issues. I mean I definitely prefer this over the current other next-gen approach of releasing buggy, broken games and then patching lots and lots of bugs for months.

I'm sure if next gen stuck with 2008 graphics and scope, they wouldn't need patches too
