Are you referring to the subject of the entire thread or just the part about Drive?

Black crush means that turning the brightness up won't reveal any more picture information.

Yeah, the screens with the completely lost details are exclusively in one single scene, the short nightly drive in the beginning.

Overall the disc looks awesome, I do not think Fury looks that terrible as some say despite of the black crush. Might be finally come down to what anyone prefers to see.

He's referrring to Drive OC, which I seriously shall not mention anymore

Will help myself to the US disc though, can't stand the DE's murky blacks anymore.

Can a moderator edit the thread title?
The valid technical term is "crushed blacks".

This isn't black crush as much as a lower gamma.

Yeah we had that, I still agree.

And, yeah, I could see how one would prefer the more contrasty image in motion.

Again, IMO the Drive US Gamma and black levels look overall way healthier than Drive DE.

For me personally, even if there is lost detail in another sequence, or another movie, I won't bother anymore discussing too much into it.
Seems to go in circles and turn into some kind of Ego-thing, after a certain while, not interested in such geekdom,
I shall leave that to our leading anal-ysts (SCNR)

I'll rather decide which version I prefer, and (get this) enjoy the movie.

Edit: Unsubscribed&peaceout

Regardless if its black crush or low gamma, that darkened image looks awful in comparsen.

The darker image is correct. It's supposed to have shadows and hardly looks awful.

You can blame dark room mastering standards in some places moving to 2.4 Gamma instead of 2.2 for that.

I'd say it hardly looks awful since it isn't outright level conversion error, but I would prefer something a little more between the two

Has it been confirmed they are using 2.4 (or more likely and correctly bt.1886)?

Default Sony Black Crush on late-2014 / early-2015 BDs

Also the new Chappie Blu-Ray isn't affected as well.

Seeing these corrected versions of Fury and Interview in Germany, I pray for a corrected version of My Best Friend's Wedding too!

edit: Does anyone know how is the German Bluray of My Girl?

Had he reviewed this?
I only remember My Best Friend's wedding, that he gave it a stellar review with 5 stars.

He basically said that people have their TVs calibrated incorrectly.
