I just cancelled my pre-order... this movie has a long history of awful releases... think I'll wait to read a lot more reviews before biting (pun intended) on this one...

And if these are indeed theatrical prints that they used and not, say, a 35mm IP blowup then that would account for the shocking lack of detail, being a dupe of a dupe of a blowup.

Yep plus their Stevie Wonder attention to encoding detail.
Plus the mess a print would be in, unless it was his personal one.

Folks are saying there's plenty of scratches and whatnot on there, which is no surprise coming from Shout. They do dirt removal (probably at the automated level) but manually painting out scratches = no-no. They gotta pay for the new cover art and/or the slipcovers and posters, right?

Slip cases don't grow on trees.

Slip covers are the packaging thing I care about the least, too. I would much rather they use thicker cases like Arrow or Criterion, or include a booklet like they did with the Roger Corman stuff. A slip cover is so pointless IMO.

Here's my insightful, technical analysis of Shout's Dog Soldiers blu-ray, based on the caps-a-holic screenshots:

Holy crap, what a mess!

Amazingly, it looks worse than the widely panned original blu ray. Was going to get a signed copy from Dark Delicacies but I'll stick with the UK DVD

This is one of the worst transfers I've ever seen..... Why wouldn't they properly color correct this? The original DVD looks better. They literally mutilated this.

YES! Dog Soldiers really does need a new transfer, hopefully they can work something out. And I have been waiting forever for a Ginger Snaps Blu-ray. The old DVD Special Edition from Canada was packed with features. I think that was technically my first ever import back in the day.

I am a Scream Factory fanboy and this is piss poor work. The transfer looks awful. I wish I would have saved my $20. It's not pretty. I am starting to lose interest in scream factory.

They did a Ginger Snaps blu-ray and it was one of their better efforts.

My fingers are crossed that Arrow can get the source materials for Dog Soldiers and do a proper release.

To be fair I think a couple of those look better on the Scream one (ex #4). But yeah, it's more than balanced out by the hilarious blowout on anything close to white (ex the incredible disappearing windshield in your link, or the trees all getting trimmed in #3, or most of the features on the guy's face disappearing in the #8). This is a surprising case of looking way worse than the initial alarmist-sounding reports suggested.

Yep, I like their Ginger Snaps release a lot, wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Probably my favorite thing they've ever released.

It would be interesting. However if this really is what he wants then this might be the only transfer from here on out,
