At least for me, there has been a slight shift in my attitude towards Marvel. I'm still interested in the movies. I still love the ideas but AoU didn't hit me hard enough. There was just something... off about it. I still really enjoyed it.

But I do wonder if the "disappointing" (and I say that meaning that expectations were off the charts and it was only very good) reaction to AoU will soften expectations towards Marvel going forward. And early reaction to Ant-Man sounds somewhat similar.

I'm slowly just wanting something different and interesting from superhero movies which is why my current most anticipated movie is Suicide Squad (especially after today's trailer). There's a slight fear that Marvel is doing the thing that DC has been accused of doing in stuffing movies with too many characters to appeal to everyone.

Again, these are all speculations based on limited information on unfinished movies (and everything can change once the finished movies arrive) but to say that it's always been the same people whining doesn't quite hold true at least for me personally.

You're right. There weren't endless complaints about Marvel's handling of Mandarin in Iron Man 3... there weren't complaints about Thor: The Dark World... everyone completely loved Age of Ultron and didn't criticize it at all.

You'll be hard pressed to find someone who actually thinks Disney-Marvel is infallible, or who feels they're above criticism. It's just that Marvel has a proven track record with many fans, more so than other studios. That's it.

If Fox or WB put out great film after great film, with small misfires within those films, you'd have people backing them as much as they do Marvel. It's like Pixar: they have a proven track record with audiences, so people come to expect certain things of them and are more willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

But when you have a more spotty track record, you won't inspire as much loyalty in people. All it is.

Fox's X-Men series does have a better consistency of quality than the MCU in my opinion, but this is kind of off point from what I was saying. I'm not saying people are bashing them or not fans anymore or whatever, I have just noticed a bit of fade in enthusiasm. I'll be interested to see if it continues or bounces back.

Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World are probably the most-criticized Marvel films but they made huge bank and it seems to me a lot of the complainers have come around, now defending both movies.

It might just be lack of enthusiasm in those specific projects. With Age of Ultron, I think some people were underwhelmed because of the high expectations established after the first movie. And a lot of people haven't been enthusiastic with Ant-Man since day one. That one is probably going to surprise people, most of which may go in with low expectations and walk out pleasantly surprised. Though I'm sure a lot of people will walk out underwhelmed or not having any enthusiasm for it. The Rotten Tomatoes reviews have some saying it's all right, or just kind of there, and like most movies, some people will love it, hate it, like it, or be "meh" on it.

If Civil War looks good (and it most likely will be), you'll see more enthusiasm and hype around Marvel. They have Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans coming, all of which are new and exciting. And in the middle of all that, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, a new Spider-Man, and most of all, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2.

If you don't see people getting hyped and losing their minds over Civil War and Infinity War, there may be a problem. But I think those will be a shot in the arm to anyone who may have lost some excitement over Marvel this year.

I still see both of them consistently getting hate. We could start a discussion ranking the Marvel Studios films right now, and you'd have people saying they hate Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. Two years later, people are still pissed about Mandarin, even after Marvel went out of their way with the All Hail the King one-shot. IM3 and TTDW have been getting hate for the past two years and will continue to do so, which is fine. There are endlessly loyal, biased fanboys who will say "Marvel can do no wrong" or "DC can do no wrong," but I think the majority of people aren't that way. They say when they're excited by a film or they loved it, and they say when they're disappointed with a film or the problems they had with it.

There are areas of grey where you're a fan, but you can also admit to yourself and to others when you didn't completely love everything about a certain movie. People defend Marvel because they're consistent. They almost always deliver. Doesn't mean they can do no wrong, but when you have the kind of track record they do, people are going to give you the benefit of the doubt or even not hold misfires against you as much.

Seriously? The X-Men series had to make an entire movie to undo some of the other movies in the series. That is not a sign of consistency of quality.

The PTSD in particular should've carried over into Avengers 2 but it did not.

Why? He got over all his emotional problems concerning PTSD at the end of the movie. That is what the last 5 minutes was about.

Yeah, there are a lot of reasons. I just listed the Mandarin one as an example. And it seems to be still the biggest problem most people have with the movie.

What do you have against Doctor Strange and Black Panther?

Actually they replaced Demon in a Bottle with his arc reactor slowly killing him driving him to be wild and stupid at his birthday party. That should have been the movie to have focused on his alcohol problem in a better way but I remember reading an interview with Favreau and how MS didn't want to focus on something like that.

Black Panther is pretty much Catwoman as a dude...no thanks. Doctor Strange...if I wanted to see a solo film about a magician, I'll just wait for a Doctor Fate movie.

I think I hear the sound of hundreds of footsteps from a lot of black people wanting to break through your door right now.

BP is a little bit different than a male Catwoman. A Doctor Fate film would suck because, well, Doctor Fate ****ing sucks and can't hold a candle to Doctor Strange.
