"no one" lulz... I'm sure a large percentage of the general audience haven't watched a number of the after credit scenes and the one that showed Sif and Volstag bringing the Collector the Aether from Thor: The Dark World is canon in the MCU.

Also, when that twist came out I love how all these long time Mandarin "fans" came out of the ****ing woodwork crying bloody murder.

Fox isn't doing damage control. Ryan Reynolds wore them down over time as well as the fans demand for a true Deadpool after that test footage leaked a few years back. This wasn't a case of Fox saying "maybe we should do him right this time because fans *****ed about the character in Wolverine Origins". This financing from Fox was basically them telling the fans and Reynolds, "shut the F up already, we'll give you to make the damn movie so you'll stop annoying us".

I loved The Mandarin twist. It's been one of the very few times I've gone into a film and been completely caught off guard by something.

It was also at a time before Marvel had committed to having magic in the MCU, something that even still is iffy. If The Mandarin had been the "Real Mandarin" as comic and cartoon fans expected him it would have completely turned the MCU on it's head in a very bad way.

Origins: Wolverine is no longer part of the X-Men canon. If that isn't damage control, then I don't know what is.

I disagree. From Favreau to Black they all said they couldn't figure out how to do the Mandarin without being racist. L...O...L... Just don't have him be a buck toothed Asian like in his original appearances. What they did with Kingsley was perfect but then the twist happened.

Lauren Schuler Donner and Jackman have both trashed that movie overall, as in the entire thing. In fact I don't remember them saying much about Deadpool in general when it comes to Origins. If anything was damage control about Origins, it was simply because they started to go back to quality X films with First Class and DoFP and The Wolverine and didn't want what they knew to be a pile of crap associated with those. I could understand if they both specifically said one of the major reasons was Deadpool but they didn't. Donner hasn't mentioned as far as I know anything about doing this new Deadpool movie because of how bad he was done in Origins. They really didn't care, this was all Reynolds and the fan's push and Fox basically wants to shut them up. Reynolds(or was it the director) at SDCC even said that Fox basically left them alone during production. Kind of like, "here's your money, make your silly movie and get it out of the way".

Yeah he was definitely ruined. I mean they should of went with the old Mandarin and not Aldrich Killian who is pretty much exactly like the Mandarin is in the comics now. Should have kept the old version who basically doesn't exist anymore in the comics to keep those pretend fans happy. But yeah, that definitely came out of nowhere.

I don't get that big deal, the original mandarin was one of innumerable "yellow peril" villains, the modern Mandarin while less on-the-nose is still made from the same mold, doing a faithful Mandarin in the space of a movie without relying on stereotypes is almost impossible, in fact the "false mandarin" is a jab at the unfortunate implications of the character by making him a caricature of the modern equivalent of the trope, the middle eastern terrorist as seen in many american TV shows like NCIS and the like, I actually find it very clever.

What would happen if Disney/Marvel made a Fantastic Four movie in the vein of Iron Man 3, with almost non stop jokes and comedy, plus pulling the "Mandarin twist" with Dr. Doom? I wonder how many fanboys would defend that.

I wouldn't. I hated Iron Man 3. But I trust Marvel would give us a more proper Fantastic Four (even if humorous) and a proper Dr. Doom.

And for the record, I enjoy almost all of Fox's X-Men films equally to Marvel Studios' best films and better than Marvel's worst.

I don't know, it might work better for FF than it did for IM.

I don't really think there would be room for a Mandarin twist with Doom, I notice that many seem completely blind to the point it wanted to make.

Default Why Fantastic Four Will Tank

First to clarify, I am a fan of comic books, Marvel and DC chief among them. And as a fan I care about what is good for ALL fans, I am NOT a fanboy, For a fanboy pretty much cares about what he thinks and only what he wants.

But here are my reasons why FF will tank

1. The director has no respect for the source material or the fans. And even told Kate Mara not to read the the comics because his story wasn't based on anything previously written.

Months later he would say it was based on the "Ultimate Universe" version.

2. Miles Teller said it wasn't a movie for the fans and then changed his comments a week later.

3. Michael B Jordan basically referred to the fans has internet trolls

4. Fox places review embargo on the movie until the day before its released

Speculative comment: Fox probably did this to protect advance ticket sales

5. Amazing Spider Man PROVED reboots with another origin don't work and ASM made more money than the previous 2 FF movies combined.

6. It took Fox 14 years to make an X-Men movie that could pass 500 Mil worldwide, Sony and Marvel did it with their first movie's (Spider Man & Iron Man)

Speculative comment: The overseas posters for X-men dofp had a prominent MARVEL logo at the top, While the fox logo was almost obscured, Which could have lead the casual fan to believe it was a Marvel production

7. FANS want to see the FF in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where the characters can be done justice and better stories can be told

Well there you have it, My 2 cents. Now of course if FF tears apart the BO I will post an apology

If anyone likes this movie...you are killing FF's chances of being in the MCU

Update: the promotion is also bad. The thing burger from Denny's looks disgusting

I think it will be a fun yet heavily flawed sci-fi film but nothing great.
If the film is to forge its own distinct identity it needs to change and update itself. Otherwise there's more value in rewatching the Roger Corman or Tim Story films.

The idea of four astronauts is just a teensy bit outdated in 2015. The 2005 film updated it in a silly way - Doom is an American businessman who gave the funding or something like that. Whereas this is reflecting contemporary science. Because space exploration at the moment in 2015 mostly seems to be about rovers and stuff like that. Although correct me if I'm wrong. And the way this film does the origin ties back to the comic book too - we've never seen the trippy exploration into the Negative Zone on film before.

The costume change is necessary in the sense of creating a 'grounded' FF. It's in keeping for Fox too. The X-Men costumes were only colourful in the film set in the 60s. I wonder how people would have reacted if the costumes were the same as they are here but blue instead of black?

Adopted Sue Storm wasn't necessary. But I don't have an issue with it either.

Doctor Doom as another guy with the FF? Unless you want to see mountains of exposition with Reed talking about "I knew him in school, but he burnt his face in Chemistry class" or something like that. Then cut to a flashback. To simplify his origin helps to streamline the film rather than overcomplicate it. That said a metal mask NEEDS to be in there somewhere.

Reed as a child science prodigy, the inclusion of Dr. Storm, Baxter as a scientific institute - all derived from the Ultimate comics.
