So is there no news on 4K 3D? What about players and 3D TV that have the capability of upscaling bluray 3D?

Currently there is no spec for 3D in Ultra HD Blu-Ray. While players will certainly be able to play current Blu-Ray 3Ds just fine it looks like current 1080p Blu-Ray 3D will be the best quality 3D available for the next few years

But there is no reason that 3D can't be added to the spec later just like it was for current Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray 3D didn't come till 4 years into Blu-Rays lifetime and we might have a similar wait

Also most modern 3D movies have 2k DIs. So even if it had a 3D spec there are only a handful of 3D movies that could take full advantage of it

Yeah, it's a moot point since most 3D movies in recent years have 2K DIs.

Can the new UHD players play 3D blurays, meaning it will upscale the 3D bluray?

Also is there a link of all the movies titles old and new? I came across a link by CNET with some of the titles that will be available to stream or are on the Sony and Samsung media players but not a full list.

No, but there are two lists on the forum:

Films with 4K DIs: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=218262
Digital Films with 4K DIs: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=220755

Thanks. When these titles get released in 4K, are some of them likely to be upscaled to 4K?

No, these are films that were actually filmed in 35mm (4K) or higher that have been a given a 4K or higher digital intermediate. There will no upscaling required as they will have already been scanned at 4K.

There are still some films that were only ever released on blu-ray back in 06/07 as barebones releases with MPEG-2 transfers and never received any kind of re-encode or remaster over the past 8 years.

I think it's safe to say that these films probably won't be released in 4K if studios don't feel the need to give them a decent blu-ray release, so I suppose if you need them in HD they'd still be worth picking up on BD.

HD content on physical media will not die off. Look at the cds..pretty much gone now but people started to buy lp´s again because it's quality.
Having said that, I'm eager more than ever to get all the catalog titles I want to have before it's too late.
Well with vinyl, it has enjoyed a small comeback because of the whole retro/nostalgia thing, and some people do like the distinct sound of vinyl. But it's only a very small niche, and CDs are most definitely capable of higher quality sound than vinyl.

I absolutely disagree here. I have done some direct comparisons of the exact same recordings on both vinyl and CD. My conclusion is that the CD sounds too clean in layman's terms and I am not just talking about scratches and pops.

I have custom transfers I made myself of several VHS tapes that have still never been released on DVD. I captured them to my hard drive and ran them through some filters to bring out the best quality possible and then authored them to DVDs using high-quality encoders. The results are very impressive. Of course they're 4:3, but upscaled on my 1080p 46" set they are certainly watchable. Sure, the detail is very much lacking, but it's still a watchable image. The filters help a lot. It also helps that my tapes were in very good condition. A rental tape that was played 150 times with tracking errors and chewed up segments wouldn't hold up so well.

They would likely look better on an old CRT screen.

I want to say that Sony's reliability in making The Big Hit a launch title for both Superbit and Blu-ray has my back here but I guess I'd be more confident if it was getting a new release with a dumb cover (ideally Bokeem STRAIGHT JACKIN!) for a 4K remastered Blu-ray. Instead it's been long farmed out to Image, I always thought me and the head of Sony's video team were that movies biggest fan.

There was an article on arstechnica less than a year ago about this. According to the math, and many audio professionals, CDs are capable of delivering higher quality sound than vinyl.

Tons of CDs have sounded like crap over the years thanks to "digital remastering", which really means "crank up the volume and obliterate any dynamic range the audio had" (The Loudness Wars). Vinyl has manged to avoid being a player in that field for the most part.

And some people do like the warm analog sound of vinyl, like I said. But there are many drawbacks to vinyl, and the debate will likely never end on which is better. Again, according to math, CD wins. I myself love vinyl but agree it has many, many drawbacks. For one, every time you play it, it gets worse. That's a fact, and a major downside. The fact that the sound is better on the outside edge of the record as opposed to the inside is another issue.

I don't know why this misconception persists - most vinyl records of new music are pressed from the same overcompressed masters as the CDs. And there are plenty of CDs that have dynamic mixes. It's like saying teal color timing is a problem with the blu-ray format (and I'm not suggesting you said anything like that, mind you). No, both are problems with mastering trends.

Vinyl can in theory sound better.. But as someone already mentioned, the sound on these modern revival vinyls isn't analogue, but the same digital masters which are used for CDs that are put on vinyl.

Pretty much the equivalent of a digital video shot with the 2.8K digital camera transferred to 35mm film.

Same. I'm a CD collector through and through.

I will say, however, that vinyl is a more "tangible" physical medium. There's something about holding a vinyl record, looking at the cover, and flipping it over in my hands that somehow lends more to the concept of experiencing music instead of merely listening to it. As far as sound, convenience, and durability go, though, I'm all about the CDs.

Films that were not filmed in 4K or higher like Casino Royale, Lord of The Rings and Batman Begins. If they get the 4K release is there any point in buying them again since they will only be upscaled?

I couldn't see Star Trek and World War Z on those lists. I have noticed they have been given the 4K treatment whether they are taken from actual 4K transfers (or higher) or upscaled I don't know.
