If you're saying you think that the studios will be too lazy to bust out new transfers for UHD then I understand that point too, but a lot of catalogue masters are sub-par for HD, never mind UHD, so if the studios start upscaling that shit then they'll be found out very quickly and could do irreparable harm to a format which needs everything to go right if it's to have any kind of success. Will we see 4K upscales of modern 2K finished DI shows (which look so good to begin with that they upscale deliciously well)? Possibly, although a straight-up 1080p encode with the rest of UHD's bells and whistles (WCG, HDR, 10-bit) added on might be more likely, and ultimately less misleading. Time will tell. |
