But the woman isn't carrying a toddler and she's run down by a truck.

It's not a continuity focused series. Same basic story, different executions.

Spot on, sir. Max wanders wasteland, Max encounters group of unfortunates, Max leads them to freedom in a big ****-off chase scene. Lather, rinse, repeat.

But no-one tell Unisol that the continuity doesn't mean shit. It'll be our little secret.

Actually, in the US, the original MAD MAX opened in the summer of 1980, a very small release, mostly to drive-ins, from American International.

THE ROAD WARRIOR was released in the summer of 1982 in the US, a very large release by Warners. The summer of 1982 was a great year for films (Road Warrior, Blade Runner, The Thing, Cat People, Fast Times at Ridgmont High, Conan the Barbarian, Poltergeist, Star Trek 2, Tron, etc.).

Watched it again last night.

What exactly is the significance of the breast milk?

There's a lot of breast milk in this movie.

Also what's the significance of the crazy half-life boys and their blood transfusions or donations or whatever?

What exactly are they using that blood for?

I missed the part where they provided any explanation for that.

In Thunderdome and in the beginning of this one it is inferred that things are the way they are due to nuclear fallout. Thus, it can be assumed that an entire new generations of people will be born with defects or diseases due to that. As you may recall, Nux has tumors, so it can be assumed that the cancer is in his blood or it is simply contaminated, therefore he would need constant blood transfusions.

As for the milk, it further shows how women are treated like cattle (see how Rictus moos when he tastes the milk). But later, when Max washes off the blood with the milk, it is a symbol of how a mother can give you comfort and make everything alright even if for a brief moment.

The fact that Miller and company didn't spoon-feed us the explanations is one of the reasons the movie is so great.

And it was dubbed in its initial release, because they felt American audiences couldn't handle the Australian accents. It came off like a kung-fu film.

Just got a new tv, with 3d.

Had fun trying out the 3d. The desert roads go on and on. The interior of the can of the vehicles really opens up. The desert storms are something to behold... and everything was so crisp and detailed. Great movie with a great presentation.

Only grumble - entered my free Vudu code. Checked it out and it looked great, but then I see that there is a 3d version on Vudu, which I can buy for $39... so, apparently, the code from my 3d movie only gives me the standard version, if I want a digital 3d version, I have to pay more than I did for the actual 3d bluray, bluray, DVD and digital version I purchased. Kind of annoying.

Anyway, that's my little grumble.

Fun movie. Glad I got it.

That's true, I certainly wouldn't stream the movie if I had the disc, guess it just seemed wrong that I would have to pay all over again to do so after redeeming my code... oh well, first world problems.

Agreed. Plus, I hate it when I see new listings of titles I already have on Vudu, but they now have bonus features. I think if you have the title you should get the bonus features automatically.

What I understand is that milk is an easily produced and highly nutritious food source. There is no farmland for cattle, so they use people.

Blood transfusions are merely an attempt to cure whatever infections or tumors they suffer from. There is no other medicine.

I am glad the movie skipped exposition for this stuff. Explaining it all wouldn't have improved the story.

That's one of the things I loved about Fury Road. It basically told us only the essential stuff we needed to know in order to follow the story, and anything else (like the milk, for example) were just kind of hints toward other stuff that could simply be left to our imagination. A lot of movies these days feel the need to try and explain every single little detail, and too much stuff gets in the way. Fury Road cuts the excess and just gets on with it.

To anyone outside of Australia? That is a little far fetched. The US is like any other country in the world when it come to moviegoers, and that is the problem with the horrendous dub job - nitwit distributors undermining their audience.

The only market in the world where it did not do well, was the US.

Watching this film a second time I paid attention to Max's dream/flashback imagery in more detail. One of the scenes is a baby in the womb. It looked like a scene out of Dune!

Well, I only saw part of the dubbed version back in the 1980s when the tape was rented by a friend's family. It's the undubbed version, which I first saw many years later, that I'm familiar with. Speaking as an American, the dialogue was quite comprehensible. The one part I didn't get was the reference to "The Dark One", but it turns out that was a character cut out of the film prior to release.
