you post this because your a little ps3 fanboy. Sony is to anal to supply hd cables. I own both and its nice to have everything you need in the box to experience HD unlike sony

I have re-read the other posts - again. It's just sad that so many are going to miss out on better PQ because it is economically driven over following a mantra such as "The Best It Can Be". Perhaps there is a benefit for us video educated folk in the form of lower priced hardware at the expense of the less knowledgeable being lead into buying overpriced cables - if at all. Regardless, I will never rest easy knowing a girl friend of mine is still using composite video on her LCD TV.

Manufacturer with a loss-leader (PS3) that is flying off the shelves should heed the demand of people who are too cheap to pay for US$5 HDMI cable? Hmmm.

Notice that the people who don't know about HDMIs are not demanding that they be included. Only SOME people who only know about cheap HDMI cables after they had been informed of this are complaining.

Here's the moral of the story for the complainers: Stop complaining. Be advocates by informing those around you who are getting into HD to get cheap HDMI cables. Lose the negative energy and gain some positive energy.

So you're extolling the HD value that 360 gives you. Consider what you get with the PS3: Wifi access (except for the 20GB which is no longer made), a Bluetooth controller, a HDMI port from EVERY single version of PS3s, the ability to upgrade your HDD from any 2.5" HDD manufacturere and not pay through the nose for a proprietary HDD, built-in profile 2.0 BD player and the ability to decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA.

A cheap US$5 HDMI cable can't even fix what the 360 lacks.

Sad, yes. But it is economics that work for retailers because retailers the ones that will sell the majority of PS3s and not SCE or SonyStyle themselves.

Even in the early days of DVD and Laserdisc, they don't include S-Video or component cables. THEY here means ALL of CEs who produced DVD and Laserdisc players. That is still true today!

I have an older 1080i tv... no HDMI input, but it does have a dvi input. If you have one as well, I used an HDMI to DVI cable from my reciever to the tv, and noticed a marked improvement in picture quality over the cables that came with the PS3. if you don't have a reciever with HDMI passthrough, you can just use the hdmi to dvi for the picture, and the cables that came with it for direct sound input.

A little PS3 fanboy! Harley! Far be it for me to delve into immaturity like this little statement there, but I was simply agreeing that the PS3 as a home theater system is better than the XBox. Please - I don't even use my PS3 for gaming and I have owned a pair of stand alones and all that. Fanboy is a term I don't even use outside of this thread - that's reserved strictly for you young teenage kids who attack each other over brand/platform preference!

Besides - a $5 HDMI cable from Monoprice won't kill you. Even a $30 Philips one from Wal-Mart won't kill you either. And you mean to say, 'too' anal. Honestly! And it's YOU'RE not YOUR. Damn kids! I wouldn't want a component cable anyways so I got myself a good HDMI cable. But yeah it wouldn't kill Sony to add an HD cable in the box

I tried to explain HD to her before. Said it was just a new look to get people to buy something new. She can be very stubbern, so I had to give up had to leave it at that. Her brother on the other hand was more open, so I explained proper video connections to him. He was not really interested in video cables eather the 1st time around. Later on he got a 360 and tinkered with the supplied component video and admitted the PQ was better.

My PS3's video is via HDMI, so I know I am using it to it's fullest potential. I don't own a 360.

Interesting how economics can work for or against PQ. In the analogue 80's, broadcasters were loosing money to cable and were going to have vacant UHF cannels taken away by land mobile. HDTV was a desperate attempt by NAB to hold on to the valuable spectrum, and we gained a great HD picture. Now in digital age it helped create, we are loosing PQ to economics by deliberately including analogue composite cables in the box just to get people to believe they need to purchase fat margen outrageously priced super-charged oxygen-nitro monster HDMI cables.

And all this is sony's fault for not including a crappy, lossy, compressed, analog component cable in their PS3 box right? Why would you even want to use component if you had a choice. ITS COMPRESSED VIDEO!!!!
