Default Cable question for PS3

I have a quick question. My buddy just bought a PS3 for his rear projection TV (1080i), and since it’s not 1080p, he doesn’t really need an HDMI cable, correct? Doesn’t he just need a composite or component cable (not sure exactly)?

He was complaining that his graphics on his PS3 suck, and then I realized that he never bought a cable. He is new to all of this (much like I was a few months ago), and wants to know what cable to buy. He also needs it to watch Blu-ray’s.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

He should still get HDMI, since you can't upscale a DVD through component. It's also nice to have your picture and sound just using one plug instead of five. Also, it's probably cheaper (I got mine for $5 shipped from Amazon). If you got the component cables, you have to get specific PS3 component cables. Those cost about $25 at GameStop.

I have an HDTV set, but it has a DVI port on the back, not HDMI. So I needed a DVI-to-HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. Because of my TV, The best resolution I can get is 1040i, but Im not complaining :-)

If your friend has a 1080i, he should definately use the HDMI cable otherwise his PS3 wont be able to get the highest resolution

No problem Sonny. The dealers, installers, and stores(we dont sell to the general public) that buy from me basically have brainwashed the end-users on buying the expensive cables. We're not allowed to sell(by contractual agreement) any brand of cables but Monster and Key Digital. We used to sell Acoustic Research and that's why I have those HDMI to DVI cables that I can give away. Not many left as you would expect.
