The current Blu-ray transfer still stands good. But the audio; I hate it. Dialogue volume is horrible.

Now with Dolby Atmos, dialogue volume control is no longer an issue.
I'd love some truly extensive bonus material, but the audio is hands down my biggest complaint about the current disc. Watched this recently and my neighbors probably thought that the armored truck was coming through their wall.

That's the point.

The dynamic range of the track is how it should be done. Dialogue low volume with crashes, explosions and gunshots high volume.

There's that dynamic range compression thingamajig on your receivers for precisely this reason - use it. I don't want Mann's mix, unusual as it is, compromised for your neighbors' delicate sensibilities.

But is it original?

Good question. If Mann approved this track, that is good enough for me.

I do find that Mann's film's feature this type of volume mixing, but Heat seems to be the one that people complain about the most.

It has issues that did not exist in other formats.
Problem is Mann cannot leave well alone in both picture and sound

I would use the term 'differs', as I don't think that it is an issue, regarding the audio.

True, although I haven't been disappointed with any Mann film that I have on Blu-ray, but I do understand those who want the original elements.

Even the piss-yellow and overly-darkened rendition of Last of the Mohicans?

- 4K restoration
- Dolby Atmos
- Visual upgrade of changing the look of Heat from film to digital

That would be a nightmare. If Mann agreed to make this movie look digital like his newer films, that would just be awful!

Wait, are you saying that if I buy a 4K OLED it'll have poorer motion handling than my Kuro plasma?

Well, this needed to happen. I have the blu ray that's been around a while and it's pretty rough looking.

Yeah, I have far worse: Bad Boys, Frailty, etc. But considering the quality of the film the old transfer isn't worthy of it and has been needing a redo in a big way.

Heck I was coming from that weirdly squashed DVD, so for me the current Blu-Ray looks great. I lament the tinkering of the Great Ass scene but it was enough of an improvement for me to accept it. I would gladly buy a new BD, even if it's the same cut.
