This movie had a much-buzzed about trailer, so I went to see it in a theater last night. It is a huge, huge letdown. Even though I was tired, in the first five minutes I had a thought as to where the story was going and then was stuck watching this terrible, hacky idea play out for 99 minutes that felt like two and a half hours.

Can't wait to see this, ever since the trailer came out. Everyone says it's disappointing but the critic reviews are good so I'm still optimistic.

Sweet, I'm planning to grab this, but hoping to see it at the local independent theater here too.

Gonna go watch this on Tuesday, going in blind. I've only heard either praise or people slamming the movie, hope I end up on the former group!

Definitely gonna blind buy this. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Hopefully it comes with a nice slipcover like The Babadook & It Follows

This finally came to a theater here in Indianapolis, and I saw it on Halloween. I liked it quite a bit, but it's not what the trailer would have you think it is. More...'Audition' than 'Babadook', if that makes any sense.

I'll still probably be buying it though.

From horror site reviews, I read that they say the atmosphere, mood, cinematography and suspense outweighs the rather lackluster third act.
And if it's "more Audition than Babadook" (per Greymatter), then that's a positive thing from my perspective tastes.

I thought it was great. I still think The Other (1972) is a better movie.

I saw The Other for the first time when the Blu-ray came out. The acting is painfully bad. My family asked if we could watch something else - something they've never done because of bad acting.

I would agree with the rental first. The twist is seen in the first 5 minutes and then it delves into a whole other film than what the trailer let's on.

This is nowhere on the same level as It Follows or The Babadook personally.

From what I've seen, it seems like this film has fallen victim to poor marketing decisions.

Is the trailer great?
Yes. Absolutely.

Is it representative of the film?
No. Not at all.

Did I love the film anyway?
In short, yes.
I was a little disappointed when I first realized that the film I was watching was not going
to be what I expected, but I really enjoyed the way it all played out. It reminded me a lot
of one of my favorite films, Funny Games.

So, my suggestion is... If you've seen the trailer and are expecting the movie that is being
marketed, maybe watch it before you buy it so you know what you're getting yourself into.
If you're going solely off of what people are saying about it, I put my vote in to add it to
your collection post haste.

Even though ive read enough to know that what I expect from the movie by watching the trailer isn't what it is, im gonna buy this out of curiosity. Hopefully im pleasantly surprised.

For me the acting was fine. There's 1 particular scene that's shocking in The Other, where they found the baby. Goodnight Mommy is a lil bit "tamer" than The Other imo.

Agreed. Really wanted to like this, but it just wasn't very good. And the twist was really lazy and would have worked better if it was revealed early and used throughout the film

Agree with those saying this is not a blind buy. The reveal isn't managed particularly well, and I don't see this having a lot of replay value. It's solid, but not great; worth a rental.
