I agree, or at least of something that is known or have been heard of by people. The whole crystal skull thing was a bit obscure, and similarly the sacred stone in The Temple Of Doom. I mean, while I'm not necessarily crazy about the idea of Indiana Jones And The Fountain Of Youth, I think it would have been much more exciting for him to pursue that vs the artifacts from Indy 2 or 4 (although I didn't think Indy 2 was all that bad). One of the best and impactive scenes from The Last Crusade was when Indy asked Marcus, "Do you think the grail actually exists?" Granted that a man who witnessed the power of the Ark Of The Covenant shouldn't even be asking that question, the point is it makes for a more exciting story IMO if you consider the implications. Can a person's youth really be restored after drinking the water from a special fountain? Pure myth, for sure, but it's that type of mysticism that is the food stuff of what made this franchise successful IMO. I'd take that over a crystal skull and aliens any day. Note that I'm not referring to Biblical artifacts as mysticism, just referencing the idea behind searching for something important or known that nobody's ever seen.

Harrison Ford finds the fountain of youth in Indy 5, comes out the other end as Dennis Quaid = more Indy movies.

loll I actually started typing that before I edited it out. It could renew the franchise with a new actor. But honestly, I think it'd be better to try to go out with a bang. So maybe a young CGI Indy riding off in the sunset... something like the end of Last Crusade maybe?

Now THIS would be cool. I've been a fan of the Arthurian Legend since I was a kid, and Excalibur is in my top 5 films of all time.

You know what? Lawrence Kasdan is around, back in the company where he was 33 years ago. He wrote Raiders after Empire. Now he's writing a new Star Wars film, will we see him take on a new Indy film?

PS: I love all Indy movies.

Raiders of the Lost Ark 10/10
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 8/10
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 8/10
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 8/10

The Spear of Destiny, The Golden Fleece and The Fate of Atlantis would all make for good Indiana Jones fare. Anything is better than aliens that live in the 'space between spaces.'

Since "Crystal Skull", and aside from the animated "TinTin", he's made "War Horse" and "Lincoln". They're both fine, well-made, classy, great looking, traditional films that don't sell out to commercial interests, although he did change some major facts in Lincoln to emphasize the drama (which I think was a severe error in judgement). But they weren't exciting films and they certainly did not change the way we think about films the way that "Jaws", "E.T.", "Close Encounters", "Raiders..." and many other Spielberg films did. It needs someone who would bring something new to it and make it fresh.

I'm not sure who should direct it (maybe someone like Alfonso Cuarón) but I think it needs a fresh start. But it has a problem in any case and that's Shia LaBeouf. IMO, he's absolutely terrible, he absolutely can't carry the franchise forward and he shouldn't be in it. So they're going to have to write him out by sending him to college or something, perhaps to study archeology himself. If they want to have him do a cameo at the end or something, where Indiana attends his college graduation, fine. Same for Marion. Although that would mean that the film would have to take place in at least 1961.

I think Ford is actually a problem as well, at least the Ford who "acted" in Skull. I thought I was watching a bad actor doing a Harrison Ford imitation. It was like watching a rehearsal. If Ford is going to do it, and especially if he's the one pushing for it, he's really going to have to put his heart into it and do some real acting.

I think a new film should have the feel of an Edgar Rice Burroughs story. It should involve Indy 'disappearing' into a jungle somewhere because he wants to see the last of the undiscovered world before it disappears (or he's sent there on some government mission). If this film picks up in 1957, right where the last one left off, maybe he's disgusted with the consumerism and conservatism of the era (or the opposite - since Indy was born in 1899 and being 58 in 1957 or 62 in 1961, was probably totally disgusted with the early rock 'n' roll era). Maybe they need to make the film take place in 1971, making Indy 72, since Ford is already 71 and would be 72 before shooting took place.

While there, something very mysterious happens, but it has to be something that we can believe within the world of the story. It should involve much archeology. It should consciously avoid any of the "standbys" that were repeated in the other films: no fist fights across jeeps or trucks, etc. No aliens or "inter-dimensional" beings. And even though this was never in an Indy film, no dinosaurs.

I wouldn't mind if it used some of the notions of the "Young Indiana Jones" series - where Indy interacts with famous people of history. It can be both actual people and fictional people, although by 1957, I'm not sure there were that many really interesting people of history still around.

Jones can interact with another much younger character (has to be somebody great) who at the end of the film takes on the characteristics of Indy the same way the young Indy took on the persona of "Panama Hat". And then that actor can continue the franchise if they ever want to make yet another one.
Not really a problem.
Ever since Shia trash talked and blamed Spielberg for Indiana 4, Spielberg has wanted nothing to do with with. Shia is no longer Spielberg's golden boy.
Don't count on seeing Shia in anything involving spielberg ever again.

That's not taking anything away from his recent work, maybe that's just what happens over time.
Adventures of Tin Tin did a great job of channeling young Spielberg.

Lets face it Tin Tin was really an animated version of Raiders

EXCLUSIVE: Source Update On STAR WARS EPISODE VII ! Casting, The Twins And TWO More Indys !!

Here's the latest and greatest about the state of affairs regarding STAR WARS: EPISODE VII ! This all comes from my top STAR WARS source - the one who gave us the news that Lucas was planing a third trilogy in 3D (back in 2009), and that Lucas would not be directing. Quite frankly, I think he's been the top STAR WARS source for advance news for at least the past 5 years.

Here's what my source had to say about some of who will wind up being cast:
"Ian McDiarmid, Harrison Ford (our exclusive story), Carrie Fisher (our exclusive story), Mark Hamill (our exclusive story), Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davies, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman. I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role, but I don't know how that will work out with the script changes, but I'm told they are both involved."
- So yeah, Cumberbatch and Oldman too potentially. Awesome casting if all goes well.

"Regarding Harrison Ford, two more Indiana Jones features are in the negotiation stages as per Ford's contract clause on Star Wars, which is the primary reason he didn't 'publicly' or 'privately' commit, or so I'm told."
- There you go guys - TWO more Indiana Jones movies being planned, not just one. I'll try to get more info on this asap.

"Many Star Wars pre-production issues, an 'inadequate' central story which nobody would stamp off on, a problematic initial release date and an 'indecisive' director (J.J. Abrams) with the hardest gig in the industry. It's not going to be a cakewalk, but it will be a product shipping with the majority of its original parts."
- Confirmation of the current state of things.

"Ultimately it's about twins, and which will take a path towards darkness and which will follow in their fathers footsteps, or at least that is what it used to be, that may come later as I think changes are being undertaken to bring the original cast into the forefront of the story leading to ramifications that lead up to the next generation of Skywalkers."
- So we could be seeing an evolution of the story with the availability and willingness of the original cast plus the fact the Abrams is notorious for changing dogma (*ahem* STAR TREK). When Lucas handed Disney the keys to STAR WARS I believe that dogma was intact but now it seems changes may be afoot. We'll see. In the meantime, MarketSaw will continue to be your best site for advance news on the STAR WARS sequels. I have 100% confidence in this source. If he says it's happening, it is happening. Right now. Of course things could change especially with JJ at the helm, but as of this very second - this news is up to date.

Oh man. While he provided the only quality acting part in all 3 prequels, that 'cloning' rumor a while back is a bit lame. Show him somehow saving himself after being thrown down the shaft.....anything but cloning.

I only want to see Spielberg direct it, Indy is his baby. Let him try and make up for Crystal skull.

Or JJ Abrams if it has to be someone else.

The Emperor throws a grappling hooks and swings through an open ventilation tunnel. He learned it from Anakin in Episode III.

They could bring back Mace Windu too.

Anybody thought that maybe the Emperor will show up more as a spirit than an actual physical being (like Obi-Wan when he died)?

Boy, these new Star Wars films really do start to sound terrible...
And TWO new Indiana Jones films? Won't be surprised if one of them is titled 'Kingdom of the Crystal Walker.'

Indiana Jones 5 Reportedly In Works With Janusz Kaminski As Cinematographer

By Jamie Lovett
10/01/2014

A fifth Indiana Jones movie may be in the works, with Janusz Kaminski as cinematographer, according to Variety (via Slashfilm).

Variety’s article is primarily about an online instructional course in Advanced Filmmaking that is being taught by Kaminski and two others.

In the article, Variety notes that Kaminski’s next project is “the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.”

That’s about all we have to go on at the moment. Disney acquired the rights to Indiana Jones at the same time that it acquired the rights to Star Wars. Rumors have bounced back and forth that Disney will look to reboot the franchise with a younger actor in the lead role, but others suggest that Harrison Ford is eager to reprise the role himself.

He could constantly haunt and harass Luke from the grave. That could be why Luke is in hiding, the Emperor drove him nuts.

Steven Spielberg Hints at a Fifth ‘Indiana Jones’

Quote:
That’s pretty much how it went down when Spielberg sat for an interview with Yahoo! Movies alongside Tom Hanks to promote their new film, Bridge of Spies. In a genial tone, Spielberg joked about his tendency to work with the same leading men from picture to picture, noting that Bridge brings his count with Hanks to four, matching Harrison Ford’s four films with Spielberg. Then, as if they were any other words in the world, he went on to add, “Now, I’ll probably do an Indy 5 with Harrison, so then it'll be five for Harrison, four for Tom.” The only way he could’ve been more casual with even bigger news would’ve been if he had followed up with, “Oh, and Biden’s stepping down. Your good buddy El Spielbergo’s gonna be the next VP.”
