I certainly would count it. The only film to genuinely unnerve me in a long time.

I wouldn't say it's a horror movie....but there is one scene in particular that is brilliantly nightmarish.....very Lovecraftian....and hey you get to see a lot of Scarlett naked which is always nice.

65. The Haunted Palace (1963) -
If you've seen any of the other Roger Corman/Vincent Price movies, you've likely seen this one. A man living in a castle goes crazy, while other spooky things happen about (like ghosts and monsters), and it all ends with the castle burning to the ground. All the same tropes are in place, and you can get the same experience, except... except this time it feels much cheaper. The sets in these movies usually range from noticeably bad to remarkably detailed, and The Haunted Palace falls on the cheap end of the spectrum. None of the sets are as elaborate as some of the other Corman "Poe" movies, and there are plenty of times when the backdrops they used were folding in on themselves and you could see the wrinkles. The plot is actually one of the more interesting of these movies, adapting from an HP Lovecraft story this time. But the monster at the end of the movie is incredibly fake looking, having no articulation and being hidden by effects (likely to hide how bad it looked). The movie starts off well, with Vincent Price haunted in his new home, but the movie devolves into "what do we do with the extra time?" status when he has nothing better to do than to go out and kill people. It had nothing to do with his master plan, he just wanted revenge on people who were descendants of his murderers. Overall, it's a fine film, and I didn't hate it because I love these movies and Vincent Price is always great. But there are better ones you can be watching.

66. Class of 1999 (1989) - 1/2
Have you seen Class of 1984? I do. It's one of my favorite cult films of all time. I actually feel like its portrayal of violent adolescent teenagers was surprisingly relevant and actually did what A Clockwork Orange set out to do, only better (just my opinion, of course). So how does the sequel to Class of 1984 follow that up? With robots! Holy tomato salsa, what the hell do robots have to do with the original movie? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Forget everything about Class of 1984 and go into this one fresh with no expectations. If you do, you'll be surprised by how entertaining it is. Yes, it's cheap and dumb, but it's a lot of fun. It has plenty of well-know, "I need a paycheck" actors like Stacy Keach, Pam Grier, and Malcolm McDowell who all do a fine job, hamming it up just enough to be appropriate. The special effects are pretty good, and the robots look neat. Obviously, this movie was made as a result of the success of The Terminator and Robocop, but Class of 1999 has its own charm. The gangs and violent youths are hilarious. They look like a bunch of suburban white kids whose biggest problem is getting caught smoking weed. The way they dress is different, but hilarious. They look so stupid and I was actually thinking of movies like Double Dragon. The action is decent, though it's mostly kids running around with fake guns pretend shooting at each other. Overall though, it's a fun little movie that may be worth checking out if you're in the right mood.

67. Demon Wind (1990) -
Oh, this was bad. Really, really bad. But at the same time, it's charmingly bad. The entire movie is shot in the middle of nowhere (want to save money? Shoot in the middle of nowhere!) and since they wanted a spooky-looking, dilapidated house, they shot the exteriors of a home that had only like two and a half walls and no ceiling. There were no rooms, as it was literally just walls. So they shot these exteriors, but then went on very cheap sets and shot interiors. It's baffling. I've never seen anything like it. And you would think that they were doing this as some attempt to be funny, like a Troma movie, but no. The movie takes itself 100% serious. The characters are forgettable, and the only reason they're even there is so they can get killed. Seriously, the main character asked a bunch of people to come with him to his grandparents burnt down home, but they don't do anything. He spends most of his time wandering alone. The special effects and makeup are the highlight of the movie, and likely where the shoestring budget went. The demons look like they have terrible acne and plates of spaghetti were just pied to their faces, but they have a unique look to them. When all the mayhem starts, it becomes like most zombie movies. They're trapped in a house, a bunch of the characters do dumb things that make no sense, and everyone dies (not really, but pretty much). There are a few "wtf?" moments that give this movie some added charm, like when a demon is killed and reverts back to being a baby and then turning into a dove. Strange and out of nowhere, but I like that kind of stuff in these bad movies. Makes them more memorable. The movie feels like it would have been perfect for MST3K or Rifftrax. It's ripe pickings to get riffed on. And because of that, I enjoyed the movie. It's bad... really bad. But sometimes those movies can be a lot of fun.

68. Scream (1981) -
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's shockingly inept. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it (and not in a good way). For starters, there are about 18 characters. That's not a problem for most movies, but this is a "lost in the middle of nowhere" movie. How is anyone supposed to keep track of who's who? To make matters worse, the first twenty minutes has almost no dialogue at all. Then the rest of the movie is full of long stretches of no dialogue. Actually, there are stretches where nothing happens for absolutely no reason. The most bizarre moment for me was when one of the older campers is standing by the door and they're all talking about how someone could be the killer. The old man says something, and then the camera holds on him for about five seconds. Then it cuts to about 20 seconds of showing closeups of walls before cutting back to the old man standing at the door and the scene continuing. What the hell was the point of that edit?! That's what this movie is filled with. It's barely 80 minutes of desperate editing to make a feature length movie. The ending is... confusing. They never show the killer (if they did, I blinked) and it's not fully explained. I think I get it, but... if I understand it correctly then that's one of the dumbest endings they could come up with (that there town was haunted!). But I may be wrong because this movie is so bad that your mind goes numb. Stay away... dear god, stay away from this movie.

69. Burnt Offerings (1976) -
It predates The Amityville Horror, but I still did not care for this movie. A lot of these haunted house movies where the characters are going insane and you don't actually see the ghosts really bores me. Might work great as a novel (and I'm sure Burnt Offerings is a great horror novel), but as a movie, I'm usually struggling to stay awake. The only exception to this would be The Haunting, but that was a different class of movie altogether. Burnt Offerings is just a tedious movie that doesn't do anything special or memorable. The performances are fine, and there is some decent imagery (like the mortician with the casket), but most of the movie just felt dull and lifeless. There's supposed to be an old woman upstairs the entire movie, and three of the characters never see or hear her. I actually forgot there was supposed to be someone up there because the movie practically ignores that part. It's fine if you like these kinds of haunted house movies, but it's not my thing. At least it was better than The Amityville Horror, but that's not really saying much anyway.

70. Marebito (2004) -
A strange little movie that takes a lot of inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft. With this being the director of one of the most famous horror movies of the 21st century (The Grudge), that sounds like an interesting concept. But no. It's not. The monsters look laughable, and they cut away or distort the image so they don't show too much of how goofy they look. The plot centers around a man who wants to see something that will terrify him or something that will drive him insane (I don't know, his mind seems to change as the movie goes on). He finds this underground tunnel that leads to the netherworld, a large cavern. There he finds a girl chained down and he takes her back to his place. The rest of the movie deals with him taking care of this girl. There are twists and turns, but none of it interesting. Actually, the first 30 minutes were pretty promising when he is descending into a new world and looking for horror. It's when he returns to the real world that everything goes downhill. The entire movie is shot switching back and forth between the more film look (which I think was video though) and a crappy distorted video. The director was trying to implement some sort of artistic vision (I think), but almost no shot in this movie works. It's impressive to fail at that sort of level. The movie was strange enough to hold my interest throughout, but towards the end I just wanted it to be over. No re-watch value and nothing memorable.

Think this was even better than the Season opener. I thought the show would slow down because that's how it usually goes but this was great. Never thought I'd say it but Carol is just so badass! Probably my favourite character now. So smart. Loved all of the symbolism in this episode too.

10/18/15 - Spring (2015) - This wasnt a bad film by any means. It was just to dull and slow at times and couldnt keep my attention for the duration. It was up and down but I like the premise and the chick was beautiful. Just wish there was more of the monster shown and to see more of that side of her. The pacing was off and some scene's couldve been cut out. Solid concept but overall just decent. -

You seem to have missed the whole point of the story. There re NO ghosts there, and no one is in
[Show spoiler]the attic. The house itself is an evil entity, and it slowly posses Karen Black until she becomes the mother in the attic. At the end the owners of the house talk about their beautiful mother being restored to them. Also, Karen Black is concerned at first that no one is eating the food on the tray. Then we see HER eating it. There's no physical person in the attic at all, no ghosts, no monsters. It's not a "haunted house" in the usual sense. The house itself is an evil spirit that rejuvenates itself by draining the life from those that stay there. That's who all those photos were at the end -- people used up and killed off by the house.

Definitely slow moving. But I liked it, loved the dreamy quality to it. Yes she was smokin, I also really enjoyed all the Italian locations.

No, I definitely got that. What I didn't understand was the father and son thinking absolutely nothing of it. Sorry, I wasn't clear as I usually just jot down my thoughts quickly.

*Denotes first time viewing

10/18

*The Boogie Man Will Get You(1942) In this comedy horror Karloff plays a mad doctor who's working on creating an army of supermen, except it doesn't work and the bodies pile up. Peter Lorre also stars in this flick and is great.

*Before I hang(1940) This film is somewhat similar to THE MAN THEY COULD NOT HANG. This one involves Karloff playing another "mad doctor" imprisoned for euthanizing a patient for an experiment on a de-aging serum. He's allowed to continue his research in prison where he injects himself with the serum combined with the blood of a death row killer. Edward Van Sloan also stars in this flick.

*The Black Room(1935) Karloff plays dual roles as twin brothers - one good and the other evil. Family legend says the youngest will kill the older sibling in the Black Room. This was a really great film with an excellent performance by Karloff.

*The Man They Could Not Hang(1939) I really enjoyed this flick. When the authorities intrude and interrupt his experiment on reanimating the dead he's arrested, convicted and then sent to hang. Once hanged, his body is retrieved by his assistant and brought back to life to kill those who sent him to the gallows. The speech Karloff gives after he's convicted is cold chilling and that alone deserves an automatic skull.

*The Curse of the Werewolf(1961) So this was Hammer's shot at the wolf man?! Man I was really looking forward to this and was hugely disappointed. A whole half hour is wasted on a lame backstory for the explanation of the wolf man and then another 20 mins to get going.

Horror of Dracula(1957) Well after the disappointment of the CURSE OF WEREWOLF I decided to pop in this Hammer classic.

Horror of Dracula(1957) Well after the disappointment of the CURSE OF WEREWOLF I decided to pop in this Hammer classic.

don't think I've ever seen anyone give CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF a 1 star rating before....

Contamination (1980)
Luigi Cozzi (StarCrash and The Killer Must Kill Again) directed this Alien (1979) rip-off. Typical shot in Italian and dubbed over in English spaghetti adventure/horror. This one features chests exploding, but no alien emerging. Just chest explodes and you die, that's it. These alien eggs, kind of like the ones in Alien (1979), explode and get green goo all over you and then your chest explodes. So this high ranking Colonel teams up with a disgraced astronaut and a NYPD detective to investigate the source of the Alien eggs (Like that would happen in real life). Which turns out to be a coffee plantation in Colombia. Just a bizarre and dumb plot. This one was one of those its so dumb its good movies. I complained throughout the film, yet, when it was over I felt a sense of satisfaction. I actually enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend a blind buy though.

Blood of the Virgins (1967)
Directed by Argentinian trail blazer Emilio Vieyra (Placer Sangriento and The Curious Dr. Humpp). This one surprised me mainly because the amount of sex, blood and nudity in a 1967 film. The story goes this Vampire in Argentina takes a bride on her wedding night and turns her into his undead lover. Incidentally the male Vampire looks a lot like veteran actor Powers Booth. Years later some young swinging hipsters come up the mountain to stay at a ski resort and their car breaks down. They find themselves at a nearby deserted cabin which is really the home of the Vampire and his lover. BTW the female Vampire has like 44DD breasts and they are exposed a good portion of the film. Anyways the male Vampire bites two of the unsuspecting females and the race is on for the boyfriends to slay the two Vampires and save the day. A really decent film, especially for 1967. This ain't no Hammer Studios production; Blood and Boobs aplenty. In Spanish with English subtitles, if your a Vampire movie fan and you haven't seen this one, you must see it!

Sweet Sixteen (1983)
Jim Sotos (Hot Moves) wrote and directed this little low budget thriller. Set in Texas yet never really saying where. I assumed west Texas probably near El Paso because there are scenes in the desert. Lots of stars in this one Bo Hopkins, Sue Strassberg, Don Stroud and even Patrick Macnee of Avengers fame. Good murder mystery, I didn't figure out who the Killer was until damn near the end of the movie. Oh and the smokin' hot Dana Kimmell of Friday the 13th Part 3 also stars in this. This new girl in town seems to attract murder, everyone she's with ends up stabbed to death. Bo Hopkins plays the towns Sherriff and must find out who the killer is before he or she can kill again. Just a really well rounded thriller with some great actors and an equally great story. Really good twist ending too, recommended.

Canadian Nightmare (1983)
It was actually titled American Nightmare but was filmed entirely in Toronto with a predominately Canadian cast and crew; Take off, Eh! This one stars Michael Ironside and in her first appearance, nude even, Alexandra Paul (Baywatch). The movie also stars Canadian exploitation star Lenore Zann (Happy Birthday to Me and Visiting Hours). The story centers around this fella Eric who is searching through the seedy underworld of Toronto's sex shops, strip joints and no-tell motels for his younger runaway sister. Who he later discovers was a prostitute played by Alexandra Paul. Little does he know his kid sister is already dead at the hands of a sadistic murderer who will stop at nothing to clean up the streets of Toronto, one victim at a time. He hooks up with a stripper along the way and together they fall in love as they search for the truth. Lots of naked Canadian babes, a well written story and an insane twist ending make this one a winner in my book.

Really glad to see Guillermo Del Toro get back to doing movies like this. Not necessarily a horror movie though. Del Toro even said himself he doesn't see it as horror but more of a gothic romance. The ghosts are just secondary to the main plot. Still think it fits in enough for me to add it. I wonder if Del Toro still plans on doing a Haunted Mansion movie. Could be similarities between the two but there should be plenty to set them apart. This movie also has Jessica Chastain in it. I'll see anything she's in. So talented and beautiful. Really awesome to see this in IMAX too.

21. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 5
The series takes a different turn here. Other than the dream sequence intro, no "Jason" until well past an hour. You get an ok murder mystery but Part 5 is just a step down compared to the other Friday movies of this era.

22. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6
This is one of the better Friday movies and belongs in the top tier with 2,3,4 and FVJ. Part 6 features the first zombie Jason and the paintball team which may be the best background characters for these movies ever.

23. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 7
Jason finally has a victim who can match him. This was the last good movie before a run of three bad ones. Most people say this one has the best Jason makeup as his mask is knocked off for an extended period at the end.

24. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 8
I know this is a bad movie but I still love it. It ranks with parts 9 and 10 for worst in the series. The traveling Jason phase begins here for the course of three bad movies then one good one. Even as a fan of this series you really have to suspend your disbelief to imagine Jason getting on the cruise ship and again for the New York scenes even though they are pretty cool. This ends an incredible run of eight Friday the 13th movies in nine years.

THANK YOU. I had the exact same complaint with it, the film is an hour and a half long and most of that is wasted on nonsense that nobody cares about. It makes it hard to invest in any aspect of the story or characters. I was really disappointed with it as well.

10/19 - Dracula Has Risen From the Grave

Another stellar performance from Christopher Lee. A stylish, atmospheric movie with great cinematography and set designs(PQ is excellent!), also those beautiful women, my oh my. I think this is the definitive Dracula for me with his blood red shot eyes and long flowing black cape with the menacing coach & those black horses with their black tassles...yeah! I thought though there could have been a better storyline...but hey, it is DRACULA

10/19 - The Mummy's Hand

A fun movie and of course a 3,000-year-old mummy...what's not to like! Beware of when the moon is full for Kharis and the tanna leaves are not far behind, muhahaha.
