Rome, Open City Blu-ray REVIEW

OK, Tenia. I have included some very obvious examples for you, so it should be fairly easy to see and understand what was done.

On a related note, this is a very interesting film directed by Marcello Pagliero, who plays Giorgio Manfredi in Roma, Città Aperta.

The film is called Roma, Città Libera and was made a year after Rossellini's film. Big cast: Vittorio De Sica, Valentina Cortese, Andrea Checchi, and a score by the great Nino Rota.

NoShame no longer exist, but you can still buy a copy of the film from Amazon. I don't think it will transition to Blu-ray.

Spent this morning with Paisa' & Germany Year Zero excellent films. The ending of Germany Year Zero

It sucks that BFI couldn't get the commentary and the documentary which are on the Arrow dvd. Overall I'm pretty happy with this set.

I hope BFI move forward with the other Rossellini films they planned to release.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but do you guys think this will sell out soon or will it drop in price first? It would be a blind buy but it seems like a good overall package. I'm on the fence with this.

EDIT: I ordered it. 36 pounds including shipping to Denmark. My Late Mizoguchi box is one of my most treasured items and I do not want to miss out on this as I am a big fan of movies about war in general. Also, if I end up not liking it I can probably sell it without loss down the road!

At the current price, I don't think it will go much cheaper anyway. It might be able to go down to £30 though, but I don't think £6 should justify waiting for it and risking it to be OOP.
However, it does not seem to be a big seller right now (looking at its rank in Amazon charts), but who knows ? It seems to interest many, including people outside of UK.

No 1046 of 3000

The Criterion Collection version will be definitely more expensive, yet PQ may not be better. Too great a gamble to wait for the comparison some time in autumn.
Also if for example Twilight Time had released this in US in same limited amount it would've been sold out by now.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed you will find something to enjoy here. These are essential 'war films' imo.

A company like TT would never get their hands on something like this, but you're right their crazy fan base would probably snatch it up and never watch it. Imagine the price tag? They would've been asking over $150.

Finished up watching everything in this set last night and revisiting these. To me, Germany Year Zero had the worst PQ and Paisa the best. GYZ also had some parts where the audio was noticeably rough but very minor. Overall, just comparing to the DVDs, I would give this set a 4/5 for A/V.

I forgot how many beautiful people are in GYZ. What a film!

Germany, Year Zero Blu-ray REVIEW

Excellent, arguably the best restoration in the box set

Not if he's getting it shipped to Denmark though! 3rd party sellers with international shipping are the way to go.

Exactly. Shipping is 2-3 pounds cheaper through 3rd party sellers and there is no import risk as long as it is shipped from the UK. I've used Amazon.co.uk very little since they removed the international free shipping option.

Plus they change from UK tax to danish tax so everything becomes a bit more expensive. I just checked and this set would be £42.04 shipped through Amazon.

I loved Germany Year Zero so much, the rest don't hold a candle to it in my opinion but Rome, Open City comes close.

The 'Children of Open City' documentary on the first disc is excellent. One of the best extras ever in my opinion.
